Quite simply the best goalkeeper I have ever seen. His save against Harold Jarman at Eastville was equal to the famous one against Brazil for England. A true gentleman too. RIP.

Met him at a trade exhibition and got a signed small football. It was very quiet with hardly any activity, then an announcement was made that he would be at a certain firm's stand and masses of people descended on it. Great keeper and a polite, gentle and smiley man.

I guess it helps when you're not playing behind the likes of Byron Anthony on a bad day, Brian Gayle, Neil Slatter and Ian Stevens...

I met him in 2014 and was lucky enough to spend a good half an hour talking to him about goalkeeping. There was no ego, no pomposity, just a working class man that worked hard, had done well for himself and became an integral part of the best team in the world. Was he the best? Impossible to say, he's certainly in the running though.
Rest in Power Gordon.

One of my first football heroes. I remember how devastated I was when he sustained his eye injury.
The amazing thing about that 66 team was how humble they all were. Gordon Banks epitomised everything that we loved about the game.
A great patriot and human being.

He’s ingrained in English history. A man who will live on in many a memory. A true gentlemen and part of all of our national football identity.

Saw him like almost 34,000 other gasheads in Nov 1971 during a league cup tie against Stoke City at Eastville. Banks showed superb handling but he conceded two goals by Robin Stubbs and Brian Godfrey penalty. However Stoke managed four goals and in fact went onto lift the cup by beating favourites Chelsea at Wembley.

I don't think we've produced a goalie as good as him and Shilton since. Cool, calm and collected both of them, but Banks edged it for me. I'm not going to call him a true gent because I don't know what they means apart from some bugger in a top hat, so I'll just say thanks for the memories.

If memory serves he brought off a near identical save in the same mach (in the same goal mouth) from Wayne Jones, but, the whistle had been blown a fraction before.
