30 years old - another midfielder - any better than what we already have?

Agree - feels an area we are actually covered. Unless he is a better version of Upson/Sincs, and he might be. Says he is very good for morale, whatever that means.

The Club is delighted to announce the signing of experienced EFL midfielder, Abu Ogogo, on a free transfer.
The 29-year-old has a vast amount of experience, with a tally of 400 senior games under his belt and arrives at Rovers ahead Saturday's Sky Bet League One fixture against Southend United.
Starting out his career at Arsenal as a trainee, it was at Barnet where the midfielder got his first taste of senior football, with a successful loan spell during the 2008/09 campaign.
Ogogo joined Dagenham & Redbridge in the summer of 2009 and over a six-year stint in East London he made over 250 appearances.
Making the switch to Shrewsbury for the 2015/16 season, Ogogo enjoyed a successful first campaign at Montgomery Waters Meadow, helping his new side to avoid relegation and picking up the personal accolade of Players' Player of the Year and overall Player of the Year for his consistent performances.
Last season, the midfielder was named team captain for the Shrews, making over 40 appearances in their successful campaign that saw them appear in two Wembley finals.
Ogogo made the switch to the Ricoh Arena in the summer and has featured 14 times for Coventry City across all competitions so far this season.
ps he played for Shrews at the Mem in Feb 2018 when they won 2-1 with that late goal after it was set up by Rodman.

30 years old - another midfielder - any better than what we already have? If Liam Sercombe is sold later today and/or Linesy ends up at Exeter/Newport/FGR, he may well be just what we need. In other news, Neverland is fictitious.

Have to say I respectfully disagree he isn’t needed.
A true nasty defensive tackling midfielder is something we haven’t had for years. Sinclair is not this player. He gives a lot of effort and is tenacious, but he isn’t nasty, or tough tackling. Neither is sercombe, lines or Ollie Clarke.
I’ve thought this squad looks a bit lightweight and naive and sometimes you need someone who is what would be termed “nails” in the middle. I don’t know a lot about this guy, other than what I’ve read. That and he’s got a cracking name. I would have preferred a further “ogo” eg Ogogogo.

We have lines, sincs, ollie, upson, sercs(atm), Rodman.... parts and thd can play in mid too. I really think our priority is scoring goals..

Captained them during their near miss season, was best player as 100% midfield general until he got injured, causing their season to fall apart. He’s not coming here to warm the bench, I believe when he plays, ahead of any midfielder at this club, we’ll warm to him. More a deep lying tackler, no I don’t expect goals, though 4 goals in 3 seasons is positively prolific by our standards. Problem is the amount of time he may be warming the physio table. That’s the coin toss.

So I’d drop any of them. Up front, of course I want a good striker. I’m not saying we don’t. I’m sure GC knows this but I would imagine a) we may have one coming b) there are a lot who are no better than what we have and c) the ones who are any good are being chased by 10 other clubs, many of whom aren’t in the relegation zone. So we may be violently agreeing. I didn’t mean we don’t need a striker too, just that a “right b'stard” in the midfield is a good addition. I think we have too many cultured players who aren’t performing and it’s hard to fit them in.

Recall him being a CB previously in his career, very much a defensive minded midfielder who will rattle a few bones in the midfield scraps. Could be a nice partnership with Sinclair.

Wiki has him as originally as a central mid-fielder turned right back. Then Daggers moved him back to centre-mid. A reputation for red cards. We now have a lovely large number of centre-mid fielders to chose from. Who needs strikers?
