This should work. Look at the bench. Only disagree with Nicholls starting 3-5-2 Utg

Assuming everyone is fit would have started with Lines and Bennett and looked to play with width and tempo from the first minute. Blackpool will run out of steam at some point after playing at Emirates on Wed night and having a proper go at Arse after they had a player sent off.
Having said that, it's anybody's guess what formation we'll play with what players.

If he's played wide and given support in that position, yep, but we haven't done that this season.

Hard to know what preparation we do for opposition when we always do the exact same thing, walk the ball as slowly as possible to the edge of their box, pass it backwards and forwards up the sideline a dozen times, then across to the midfield, then out wide again, repeat several times, then when the opposition lose concentration through boredom we actually think about crossing it, normally straight out of play. But if we lose possession, 5 seconds later the ball is on the edge of our box. We need to hit the tactical reset button.

Playing five defenders it can only be a 5 3 2 looking to leads and Kelly to mostly supply the width. You can’t play any old formation and tactic, it is dictated to some extent by players available, for example if it was Craig as attacking left back in a back five, expecting him to beat a man and cross like a winger, it would be plain silly. So if this tactic is going to work, leads and Kelly’s attacking impact is quite important. I wasn’t at Barnsley last week, but the verdict seemed to be leads had some joy using his pace in attack, but his delivery was a tad disappointing. Hang on, how many years have we been watching leads now, we could have told you that before kick off. The other aspect of a 5 3 2 is the balance of the three in the middle. Tempted to play Sercombe ahead of Upson and Clarke, just behind the front two? We have tried that before, it didn’t work, he was lost in the hole. Started first half against oxford with Clarke in that position, that certainly didn’t work, Probably the one with best skill set to play hole is Bennett.
Nothing wrong with 5 3 2 for some teams. I don’t think it entirely suits the skill sets of the players we have out there today.
I’d play 4 4 2 with Bennett and rodman on the wings, I’d play it each week without chopping and changing, to get us out this hole.

When they have the ball we have 8 players behind it to block attacks and crowd midfield. Shift over when they go wide. Everyone has their defensive role. When we have the ball it potentially becomes 3-3-4. Which is what we need. A bit more cover than 2 centre backs and more bodies up front. I'd like to see this at home.

Listening on the radio, the echoed shouts ringing round the stadium remind me of the 'atmosphere' watching the reserves at Eastville in the 70s.
