It has been suggested that a group be formed to research, record and maintain an archive of Bristol's oldest professional club.
An opportunity for fans like yourselves to contribute. Some of you may have rare memorabilia, press photos, programmes, scrapbooks which current and future generations of gasheads could use as a resource.
Hopefully one day a new stadium will incorporate a museum to display the club's long and interesting history.
Please get in touch for more details. We currently have a group on facebook Bristol Rovers Legends.
We expect to have a meeting to kick off this group early next month.

A historic event for the club. A club that does not respect its past has no future-Ted Drake and Steve Hamer.
Any website experts fancy offering their services for this developing project ?

Not being funny or anything, but this sounds as if it's all to do with your commercial activities, so why don't you just employ someone to do your website / development work like everyone else does? Also, if Hamer said it, it's probably utter nonsense.

May I provide some "oral history" related to Bobby Dolan's activities on 28th October 1978. I would like future generations to know how seriously he took his duties as steward on away days. The oral requirement is because I wish to convey the magnitude of his efforts as I followed him out of the ground as a protective force in orange jacket.
Put me down for a chapter on Joe 90's total ineptitude. I will write that, but it could be a book. Let's discuss rights with your publisher.

Good suggestion an oral history involving Chris Brown and of course former players has been suggested already. We have Club stalwarts like Josser Watling, Harold Jarman, Joe Davis, Frankie Prince and the like. Any volunteers to undertake the interviews.
We would love to hear from fans with memorabilia which could be displayed at the Mem at a future Rovers home match towards the end of the season. Would be great to get Screen Soccer involved too as they have a mas of archive footage since the Twerton Park days.

Him & Straff Coles kind of took me under their collective wings, long story. I never ever knew his surname was Dolling, not until his death. I will never forget him and the exploits I had with both. My favourite is we ran city into the centre of town, after a glos cup. Bob was a Greebo then, he head butted the huge wooden doors of the old rummer and the Ted’s in there were petrified and before he got his chain out. Bob certainly never showed any fear. He could be very funny when he wanted and could hold court whenever he occasionally felt like doing so RIP Bob i keep hearing of Joe 90 but I just don’t know who he is. Can you enlighten me please vaughan .

It was my first away match at Leicester and I was stood next to Bobby thinking that he was a steward - he had an orange jacket on. I thought that I was safe leaving the ground, close to his side. As soon as we got out the ground, he rushed over and kicked down the metal barrier and started fighting with Leicester. More joined in. A figure of authority in my mind had turned into a raging bull. I walked back through the park to the RATS Train perplexed by human kind, but delighted with our first away point (0-0) of the season, a point that we celebrated as if we had won the FA Cup.

Joe 90 is Jim Staynings. He had ginger hair and wore glasses. He organised coaches for the Supporters Club and was the personification of annoying.
If he organised a trip to Blackpool Illuminations, you would probably end up in Wookey Hole with a single candle.
For me, he epitomized everything that was substandard, inefficient and amateurish about BRFC. He also had the ugliest of jitter mates called Edwards. When they both collected money for the driver, I wanted to punch them.
He had a song named after him..
Joe, Joe, Joe 90 Who the f'ing he'll is he.
I still moan about amateurism at Rovers, but it all started with Joe f'ing 90!!!
I once went to a hypnothetapist to try and get his facial image erased from my memory. It clearly was £50 wasted.

After 40 years our memories can start to play tricks on us.
First, although I knew Bob from about 1974 I never once heard him called Bobby it was either Bob or Dolan. As KP says Dolan was not his surname.
Secondly, although he may have joined in at Leicester he certainly wasn't the first one to kick the fence over and start fighting, that was another Robert and he was next to me,there was a particular reason why that happened.
Thirdly, Rovers had already drawn at Cambridge that season (another RATS train and more stories).
I am not trying to be clever or pedantic but as the bloke is dead I think that any history that involves him needs to be as accurate as possible.

Maybe Bobby was a term of endearment. Like Uncle Bobby. I did not know him from Adam at the time.
He wore an orange steward's jacket and kicked over a fence and then ran at Leicester fans. Maybe he was innocent all along. I would be able to pick him out in an identity parade.
You are right. It was our second away point of the season.
