The annoying thing is Nichols looks like he has something about him. Watch youtube of goals he has scored and you wonder why/how he has missed so many chances ...because Peterborough are a make or break club. Players either leave Posh for a higher level or are utterly destroyed by the club. Their aim is to buy low and sell high, perfect example is the difference between the career trajectories of Jack Marriott and Ricky Miller. Along the way the hope to get a promotion and stay in the Championship, but their main aim is to churn players for as much cash as possible. Nichols in my opinion didn't have it upstairs to deal with that sort of club and has never recovered. Similar to Luke James.

He should have scored Saturday I know but I don't see a player who constantly misses chances. He seems to play a bit more withdrawn at times when he's not being presented with opportunities and there in lies the problem...we're just not creating the chances to score (or miss) that we have in recent seasons. I still see a more than decent footballer in him but I acknowledge he obviously needs goals

Bit similar to Ellis and Gaffers issue last season. Having to do so much outside the box it's a struggle to be in the box when, sorry if, a cross comes in.

Give Barca a tinkle and ask 'em for Messi's training regime when he was 12-15 :-). Bit late to pump Nichols full of growth hormones.

We have only scored 9 league goals this season. The lowest in L1

TH works hard but is one paced and predictable. Just how defenders like their strikers. No dynamic pace or technical skills to create that half a yard you need to get your shot in. When he is in a position to shoot he has to wind himself up which gives the defenders all the time in the world to block his effort. His complete ball miss early in the game last Saturday typifies his lack of a killing touch when it really matters.

Unfortunately, Tom is a busted flush, no matter how hard he trains and no matter what we coach him he won't score goals for us, especially on a regular basis.
We just have to accept that and move on. When his contract expires, if he's lucky, Exeter will sign him or otherwise non league beckons to get his career going again.
Stats say he's probably our worst ever striker for appearances vs goals.
He's also badly in need of of decent crew-cut to at least seem tougher.

But the bloke was stood in front of the goal today, ball at a decent height to get his shot away, he totally missed the ball. Then in the 2nd half he was unmarked on the edge of the 6 yard box, all he had to do was roll the ball into either corner, he missed the target. Except neither of the events, as described above, actually happened. Incident 1: - Not his finest moment, but he was actually to the right of the goal, near the touchline, and attempted to flick the ball back across goal. Incident 2: - He was at least 10 yards out, at an angle, with a player directly in front, and another defender and the goalkeeper to get the ball past. - It was pretty much impossible to get the ball round the defender and score. The only way would have been outside of the right boot and try to spin the ball back in, or try to transfer to left foot to get a better angle and curl it. At least you got the player right this time. Last season you carried out a lengthy character assassination on Nichols, describing how in tripped over the ball. You never did reply when I posted the video of what you'd described, to show it was actually Billy Bodin.

It's comparable value to Justin Channing at £275k or Bob Lee at £90k. We paid 275 for channing?

It's comparable value to Justin Channing at £275k or Bob Lee at £90k. Channing was good. Remember that goal V city in 1992? I think Mickey Evans, Mark McKeever...we have some other big signings who were worse. On another note, we have got good fees for some players that weren't deserved. Marcus Browing for £500K at the time seemed high. Currently, based on record with BCFC, £300K for Taylor seems high. 3 goals in 35 I think. Browning was on fringe of things till Old Mal took over, Old Mal loved his engine, so he built his team around him bombing around, rather like a Carlton Palmer. And to be honest, used like that Browning did look good. But that was the type of football for that era. These days no one plays with a smash and grab, or a Vinny jones or a Palmer as the engine room. It’s 4 2 3 1. And the five in the middle are expected to be a touch more cultured to join in the tikitaka. So here’s a thought, when we do switch to just one up, could Nichols play deeper with someone else as the one up front? Nichols one of the three behind the one? Certainly Sercombe was shaping things a lot better when he dropped deeper in second half, some space there to get on the ball, but also as we attack Sercombe was looking forward, not just for space, but the right time to attack the space. Maybe the same if we dropped Nichols deeper? Support striker I think the phrase is in football manager game.

Nichols. He’s our Don Draper. Our Spartacus. Our Lennie Pike. We are all willing him on to see off the daemons and become a winner.
Everybody loves a happy ending.
Tune in next time for another fascinating instalment.

Does anyone know if Tom Nichols was assisted by Ed Upson? Not seen it mentioned, or anything about how long since his last goal. Come to think of it, are we playing the same starting 11 every week these days? But some things in football don't need saying, here's an example, not sure why BBC even bothered with Spurs coverage tonight, they choked with the finish line in sight, they could have stayed home and phoned that result in.

Update. I am sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong... but I reckon Tom Nichols league record is as follows: 54 appearances in total 31 starts 23 as substitute (of which 5 were in injury time or within 5 minutes of 90 minutes). Goals 1. Assist by Ed Upson (MK Dons). I'm not putting this up to put the boot in. He's worked hard and done quite well over the last couple of months. It does however sum up how desperate we are that we don't seem to have an alternative. People keep asking me why the Gas are so sh*t this season - and I start to tell them about our non-scoring striker who starts regularly. Just wanted to get my facts straight. In his defence I also mention the lack of pace, width, creativity, quality, consistency in line-up and/or formation, and total lack of a decent ball in the final third means that goal scoring opportunities are somewhat limited.

Why can't we play Payne/Reilly or Payne/Jak combo up front?
I mean, why not try? They've all scored this season.
With all the tinkering of squad and team, the most obvious priority of goalscoring and getting the chemistry right seems stagnant.
I say that's poor management.
