Before the potential melt-down stemming from today's result, I will give you my view of the week.
BCFC announce plans for a new indoor arena and have plans agreed for a training ground.
BRFC install a joke of a temporary stand on existing terracing, delivered late because of engineering issues. A 1970s Metalwork teacher would have given it a "C- - please see me mark (in red capitals)".
I wonder what the Jordanian press would make of the reality of Wael's Walter Mitty impersonation?
I was struck by Adam Ant's lyrics to Prince Charming and how it applies to Rovers. "Al Qadi..Al Qadi..Ridicule is nothing to be scared of".

Alternatively: 1) Why the obsession with City? 2) A temporary stand that makes it more comfortable for families and might encourage them to keep coming back? Yeah, terrible idea. 3) We're going to win because I can't go and have passed my season ticket on to a friend.

Grant,
I just think this stand is a symbol of the club. Well-intentioned, but in wider context, sad and open to ridicule from the outside. This perennial rag-ass image is the real barrier to growing our fan base.

It's unfair to look at the differences head to head as they're directly incomparable.
Daddy is bankrolling the 36year old, while the venerable 135year old is plodding along (with imminent changes in the background).
I'm actually quite proud of what we've got. I know.... that don't sit pretty with most, but I went through Eastville, Ashton, Twerton home venues, so any place that is secure I love to call home. I just wish we had more of a Twerton partisan spirit about us atm, and really let away fans know they are getting wet, seriously wet with no roof, can't hear them sing in an open end, plus sing something along the lines of watch yourself on the Glos Rd....this is OUR home, whatever the facilities (or lack of). We haven't been good at turning everything to our advantage like we have in the past. Maybe to expand, it is a society trait also.
Finally, yea, BS3 do have facilities some Premier outfits would be proud of. And they're (fans, more so than club) are very boastful, as they always have been in my life.....but: Was there always a rich kid at school that bla bla bla all day about how much they have? How everything is bigger and better than anyone else?
If there wasn't, it was probably you.
Wonder what everyone thought of that person...
Yep, that's embarrassment for ya.

Surely it is not SL paying for what is happening at Ashton Gate - it is the British tax payer?

There have been other things going on as even the local rag lists:
The new stand is part of a series of improvement projects at the Mem this summer which has seen the main clubhouse bar refurbished; a new club shop built; a second additional bar in the East Stand relocated and refurbished; a new pitch laid; a new ticket office installed; new press room built and electronic ticketing machines introduced on every gate.
If you support Pottingham Plastic Works in Level 14 you would envy the clubs with floodlights, but that's the club you support. It's no good looking at penthouse flats if you are on £15k a year. Championship sides do not have the facilities and opportunities of Prem sides. At least in L1 players and managers can walk among supporters from the car park etc.
Bragging rights come in, but, in the cliché world "we are what we are" and that's our choice - we are Rovers, we are Gasheads.

The comparison with City will always be there because City are in the same city as us. The comparison should be with similar sized clubs which, we’re still miles behind. If someone wants to start a reasonable comparative thread then I think it could be very interesting.

I have heard all the arguments before.
But the stand is an embarrassment and difficult to justify as a ground improvement.
It's 2018 FFS! I am expecting something more significant and aesthetically pleasing from owners who are prepared to have a London Office, but provide supporters with that!! Insulting?
Evolution. More like another symbol of rag-ass Rovers. I hope that his Jordanian friends and press have an insight into his vision,as he lives out his Waelty Mitty fantasy as a English football club owner.

I completely agree but the comparison would be better against clubs of a similar size. I mean even “smaller” clubs in Exeter and Accrington are bangin up improvements. It’s embarassing looking at St James Park compared to the Mem.

Simple fact is we need a new ground to compete properly even in the modest world of league one. I dont believe league one football is sustainable unless we somehow get a new stadium.

I've not seen it yet (until this afternoon, of course), but I imagine that sitting under cover is an improvement to standing in the rain.
Unless you're a Newcastle United fan.

Extend the East Stand is the answer.
Wasted money if you move?...but you need to build a fan-base and so there is a ROI through improvement of facilities.
The never ending cycle of lack of ambition, lack of investment and too many supporters saying "twas ever thus". The ground reflects that cycle and is never going to attract new supporters.
I would be embarrassed to take my daughter to a match and let her sit in that.
People are not daft. Whatever the rationale, it's still s**t.

Reading this thread it appears that some of us have zero ambition left, these owners seem to have knocked any last embers of hope out of some of us.
Why should we compare ourselves to clubs moribund in L1, we are based in a vibrant and comparatively wealthy City with a catchment area population of around a million people. Just look at how many PL clubs London has, now divide that by the population, same story for Manchester and the Birmingham area, but we have a huge advantage, there are only 2 clubs in this area.
The benchmark should be what our competition are doing.

Forget Lansdown.
The Dolmam Stand was built in 1970 and was far superior to anything that we have ever built in our history.
Yes, that was nearly half a century ago.
I would rather allow my daughter to stand at the front of the enclosure than let her sit in that and try to convince her that this is what BRFC refer to as a stand.

It sounds like trying to get a bit pregnant? We need owners with vision and the drive to make things happen. When the plans for the Ashton Vale development were dropped I said that it didn't matter hugely because people like Lansdown get things done, roll forward a few years and that's exactly what's happened. Meanwhile is BS7 we have landing lights, a field by a motorway with stated times for development not being met, a new Meccano stand, a scoreboard that looks as if Tony Hart knocked it up in a half hour children's TV show and 2 pathetic tents, as Vaughan says, it's embarrassing, but worse than that, it all speaks to the actual ambition of these owners.

Dolman stand, Lansdown Stand, waq shack.
How many terrace spaces have been lost by putting this "stand" in place ? surely it could have gone behind the terrace on the flat area ?

The new stand would be a lot easier to accept if there was a new stadium on the horizon. As it is the Mem has got to be one of the worst stadiums around and there is no sign of that ever improving.
