Would say it looked like Broadbent error letting the ball under his foot

Superb save by Smith to prevent an equaliser. Then Payne clears Akinfenwa header off the goal line

Reilly on for Nichols. Very good today Nichols He really wasn't very good, though he did run around to some effect. One chance to kill the game just before half time - not taken.
Payne did play well - winning more than his share of balls, and far more effective than Akinfenwa.

Would say it looked like Broadbent error letting the ball under his foot Watching it back they left it for each other. Him and Lockyer. Unnecessary

From the highlights, I thought we looked very good. Great to have our first win of the season under our belt but Portsmouth have got off to a flyer so far so a win on Tuesday would really signal we are back on track.

Tony Craig scored 9 goals in 412 games before he joined Rovers. He's already scored 2 goals in 21 appearances for the Gas!

Ratings
Smith 7 Looks nervy. As DC said he would prefer it if he was given nothing to do. Allsop definitely the busier of the two keepers. Distribution improved after a poor start. Vital save at the end. I would probably prefer him to SS
J Clarke 9 MOM Not just the goal. Had the harder job of the two full backs with Williams by far WW's most dangerous player. Used his strength well and didn't dive in. Crucially had support to double up. Stopped crosses from the wide deep areas which the team have learned from the first two games. The goal shaded it from Payne for MOM.
Lockyer 7 Showed his experience of over 200 league games against some strong if slow opponents. He has decent presence and is a nuisance to the ref when challenging decisions. Saw him communicating well with his defence and keeper today. Jointly at fault for their goal.
Broadbent 7 Played well. Doesn't just lump it anymore. Today the back line tried to find the midfield four right from the first whistle. This was definitely his kind of game. DC has a dilemma when he has a fit LB. Left the ball for Lockyer for the goal.
Craig 7 Made one mistake then made up for it immediately with a sliding tackle in his box. Was not troubled anywhere near as much by WW right side compared to last two games. They should have switched wingers as Williams may have had a better shout, though Matthews and Sercombe supported Craig well. Excellent goal.
Upson 7 Tidy. More dynamic than what I have seen/read so far. Worked hard. Blocked and harrassed in the 30yd area, then gave it short. Frees up Ollie and Sercs to get forward.
O Clarke 8 Some outstanding tackling and his distribution has improved. He looks leaner and has gained a yard. He makes it hard for DC to leave him out even when new players keep coming in. Someone else has to miss out. Didn't give them a second on the ball especially first half.
Sercombe 7 Did everything but score today. Is always available. The crowd sit up when he gets on a run, they know about him, they tried everything they could to block him from outside the box. Some good passing and comfortable on both sides for the midfield four.
Matthews 7 First time I've seen him. Has a trick and has very good close control, needs a touch more mobility which I'm sure will come. He can pick a pass and did his defensive chore which all managers love. Again, supported on both sides as he and Sercs switched depending on threat. Kept Bennett out today but may not start Tuesday.
Nicholls 8 The best I've seen him play. He got a standing ovation from the away support today. He tried. I don't mean that he previously hasn't. You can see the effort though. He was winning headers against centre backs, using his strength, drawing fouls for dangerous set pieces and playing off Payne well. There was one knock down from Payne he almost anticipated and the crowd applauded both players. This could work. Give him a go DC.
Payne 9 He has a quick turn of pace over 10 yards for a big man. Sometimes he may seem isolated but then he presses the defence and wins the ball. Pressing is usually about making them at least hurry their pass or pass it bad but he can actually win it. Unselfish. Don't go in the corner at 82 mins.....Just shaded by J Clarke for MOM but stayed behind to high five fans at the end. Excellent work rate and you wouldn't drop him. He's definitely going to be a favourite.
Subs Bennett 6 Did ok. It was a good change to make as he added legs to keep the ball down the other end.
Reilly 7 Looking to impress and did. Looks like a proper selfish striker goal hunter. Looks good on the ball.
Rodman no rating Not enough time to effect.
DC 8 Learned from lessons of first two games. Starting Nicholls and Matthews was a good decision. We never score from corners. Now we do. Working on what we struggle with.
Referee 7 Half decent. The decision leading to their goal was a bit iffy. All forgotten.
Gasheads 10 Really really good atmosphere. I was hear 2.5 years ago for the 1-0 defeat and it was the same even though we lost that game. I'd say this squad is better than that team. The real fans want Nicholls to do well and showed him today. 'Akinfenwa, your t**s were offside ' Enough said.
Wycombe 4 The worst league opposition so far. Poor home support. They have too many old players and looked out of their depth first half. Akinfenwa is best off going to league 2 as he could still do a job there, maybe even at Salford? He laughed at the chant. What a legend. He got applause for his reaction. A real pro and a nightmare to defend against. Williams was their MOM, Mikail-Smith did play apparently.....
Overall No point getting carried away I know because the opposition weren't great AND YOU HAVE TO WIN THOSE GAMES!!! and they did. But Rovers played well and for 80 minutes were in control. That was a decent starting and finishing 11. Time for Leadbitter and Lines to step up if they can.

Great to hear that Nichols turned up today, long may that continue.
Hope we never, ever allow anyone in to our ground with a frigging drum.

I disagree, thought he had some nice one touch passes and lay offs and the chance 1-1 was unlucky. I am however slightly biased as I’ve developed a desperation to see him succeed!

He's started winning free kicks in opposition territory which he wasn't doing last season Weak finish 1 on 1 with their keeper, but he got into the position, that's progress. Ref their drum, a WW fan came on here a couple of years back, he was saying that plenty of their supporters are annoyed by the young man, who seems to be quite pleased with himself in general. But look here, the club actually encourage it! Best of luck to anyone who turns up with a drum in the Blackthorn, I don't think it would have a happy ending.
