I found these couple of paragraphs from the Tranmere programme interesting. All the more poignant today. The Pirate: You were not at Rovers all that long, but how much fondness do you have for that short but pivotal time of your career? Barry Hayles: It was massive. As you say, it was pivotal. I enjoyed every minute of being at Rovers. Not just the goals, but the atmosphere, the team spirit. It set me up for where I moved next. When I finished with the golden boot, Bristol City made an offer, and Rovers accepted it. I just couldn't leave Rovers for City. The club told me it was a good deal for them and for me, but I just couldn't do it. I started the season with Rovers, but in November Fulham came in, and it was a bit of a no-brainer then to come back to London. Exactly, all those Taylor apologists should read that and have a think. No, not really. Not at all really. Barry Hayles - Brilliant. I wasn't aware of that happened. Great to hear his thoughts and stance on the possible transfer. Taylor - I don't blame him at all. I can completely understand wanting to get promoted to a higher level and triple your wages, in what is a short-lived career. However, that doesn't mean I think he made a wise choice, and as far as I'm concerned he's gone - I just don't care about him in the slightest now.

The Snake project is over. Released by the 1982. No one benefitted.

A millionaire over 2 years turned his head. So I was told.
I don't want him back.
He might be 2nd tier player with Oxford next season.

The Snake project is over. Released by the 1982. No one benefitted. Apart from the small matter of Matt Taylor himself who earned the largest contract of his career.....I can't imagine that he regrets it.
Weirdly I'd have thought Oxford going up might make it less likely they'll sign him as you might expect them to be in the market for more proven Championship level talent now. Taylor is the kind of player who you could see going abroad in the current climate if he can't get a contract with Oxford given that League 1 contracts are probably fall off a cliff for players like that. He also has the kind of game which could adapt.
