We'll have to wait and see, but......i thought if we just shored up our defence, we would make a formidable team as we seem to score goals freely from all over the park. So defence is priority as I see it.
I personally think we need wide left midfielder, and another goalscoring threat (as Nichols doesn't cut the mustard) as cover. Maybe that's luxury.
I wanted us to develop Broom.
Dc obviously feels we need experience (if we sign this fella), but Monkey apart, when he gets in an old hand, it invariably doesn't work so well..

For me the experienced old hand Andy Monkhouse did very well in that difficult Conference season.

Easter (played his part) Mansell was brilliant Lawrence was signed as cover, and provided cover. Fallon was signed as cover, and provided cover. Bob Harris was signed as cover, and provided cover. Sercombe is 27, doing great. Slocombe is 29, played a few times, covered for Smith when he was injured, provides competition. Hartley was a free transfer that we eventually got money for. Lines?
DC often signs older players on free transfers to provide reliable cover, and to add their experience and knowledge to the squad. Just because they don't go on to play 100 times, misses the point.

Agreed, but players are usually taken off the team if they are going to sign, particularly as the window closes tomorrow - plan B would be tricky, but as astafjevs writes there's always Browner and also Bola. Just playing devils advocate isn't signing a 33 year old player dropping down a league what people have been accusing previous boards and managers of doing that allegedly led us to the conference. Just playing devils advocate as well but didnt dc sign monkhouse, mansell and easter and get 2 promotions?

Talking about previous managers signings of older players being called journeymen looking for one last payday

This one comes with 3/4 promotions out of this division and 450+ senior appearances under his belt. Exactly what we need in the back line.

Yet some of the players critic ed on both forums were internationals or ex top flight so where is the difference. Robbie Ryan played in the cup final against man.unit ed a short time before we signed him and did a fair job marking christiano Ronaldo yet according to rovers fans he was rubbish

Same with Scott Jones scores against man.unit ed and given great press yet again rovers fans don't rate him Because he was s*** as well. He was one of those that we used to (what seemed constantly) sign that was injured and never really got fit
(and before anyone else points it out I know Billy Bodin was signed of the back of injuries (and Partington)

He was fit enough to be on the pitch to miss a last minute penalty against City. Unforgivable.

A player of ability but an awful attitude
