Jonathan Viscosi (Carlton Town)
In December 2013, Viscosi signed for Carlton Town [3] in the Northern Premier League. In 2014, he was offered a professional contract with Scottish Premiership league side St Mirren.[4] Unfortunately, the deal fell through as Viscosi had already played for two clubs in the same season. He concluded the 2013/2014 season on trial with Football League division one outfit Oldham Athletic.
Doesn't sound too bad Wes, maybe too good for us. Depends if Mildenhall is still at Rovers I guess.
Lee Gregory would be too good for us too wouldn't he. I would have thought if he was looking to move it would into the football league.

Both are currently with part-time clubs, so it comes down to whether they have better offers or not, in Gregory's case it would appear a massive longshot with the reported interest. I've also just seen the Peterhead lad McAllister appears to be interesting Rangers, so 'slightly' optimistic on that one too. Lol.

Both the goalkeepers look OK on paper. Have you heard the rumours about Mildenhall putting the feelers out to other clubs Wes?
Going to Rangers might sound great but he'd probably end up in the reserves or on loan.
We had a lad at Central Coast. Tommy Rogic. He went to Celtic. Played a few times, but one report I saw said he was way out of his depth, and got substituted. He ended up back in Australia on loan. He's in the world cup squad. Still only 21, so early days yet.

We got in there first and we took the punt on him.

Heard nothing about Mildenhall. I mentioned both as possible back up keepers if they're available within budget. The only doubt with the ex Arsenal lad Shea is his height, he's a bit small.

Some bloke called Frank Lampard is gonna be free soon, I believe. Can he do a job at conference level, do you think?

I think someone made the point about Paul Merson having a game for Tamworth and saying it was too physical for a bloke his age.

Jon Parkin relased by Fleetwood. Built like a brick sh1thouse and would eat young conference defenders for breakfast. But at 32 maybe too much of a gamble?

If we brought him in then surely it'd be just to use him as a super-sub? I mean he looked huge this year, and I wonder whether he'd struggle to last 90 minutes every week.

From what I have seen, with professional coaching and playing against better players on a regular basis, Roberts has the potential to eventually play in the Football League IMHO. Definitely 'one to watch'... Spennymoor Town FC are pleased to announce that they have this evening signed Michael Roberts from Guisborough Town.
First Team Manager Jason said this evening ‘I am delighted to have signed Michael on a 2 year contract. Michael has been on our radar for a while now and we are delighted to have finally captured his signature ahead of not only top non-league teams but also a professional club who are still showing a lot of interest in him.
Michael, 23, is at the right age for us and brings a tremendous goal scoring record with Guisborough having scored 46 in 61 appearances this season. Michael has great ability, is quick and can play as a striker, right of a front 3 or wide right which gives us fantastic options this coming season. Supporters should be well aware of Michael as he has scored 3 goals against us this season and we hope he continues his excellent form with Spennymoor.
I would also like to thank Guisborough for their professional manner in their handling of the transfer and wish them well for this coming season.’
Michael commented after putting pen to paper ‘I am delighted to sign for Spennymoor. I feel that it is the right move for me at this time in my career. The club have similar ambitions to myself to be successful, and I hope to play a big part in helping them achieve their goals.’

Quality hat-trick with a tap in (1.28mins), a composed one-on-one with GK (3.10mins) and a sensational overhead kick (4.08mins) -

Would that professional club been us Wes? To be honest Wes, you mention so many players i can't keep track. Was he one you mentioned we should have been looking at?

I tipped the club off about him ages ago, so there is a possibility. Crystal Palace were also mentioned in his local press recently as having an interest in him. He was one i would've tried to sign as a 'development player', if possible, with one eye on the future.

I read some stuff from a scout which i thought was relevant to Rovers. I believe a similar approach is the way to go for us and I've highlighted the most relevant parts...
Tor-Kristian Karlsen described identifying talent as "like detective work, the key principles to transfers are timing, the ability to target cheaper and developing markets and to always have a resale value in mind. In addition to possessing the trained eye, what's really important is to understand the relationship between value and quality so you can compare players from different countries or even continents and their respective attributes and measure up which player represent best value," he commented. The Norwegian pointed to his recommendation to German team Hannover to buy Hungarian international midfielder Szabolcs Huszti from French club Metz for £200,000, who was then sold to Russian team Zenit St Petersburg for £2.5m. "Huszti might not be a household name but this transfer illustrates that you can create value and a business model out of shrewd player transactions," said Karlsen, who worked under Graham Taylor at Watford between 1998 and 2000. "It's about knowing the world wide markets, prices and sniffing out an opportunity."
Different "countries or even continents" for us would translate to targetting the untapped talent, undervalued players and late developers that might exist, particulary in Ireland, Scotland, Wales and below us in the non-league pyramid. This would, like the Rovers Agenda For Change states, be a network that would need to be "properly managed, resourced and funded on a long term basis." It would take money to start with, speculate to accumulate and all that, but far better than to carry on as we have been for the past 15/20 years, finding a Lambert or whoever once in a blue moon, and signing some right duffers. Dagenham & Redbridge proved in the past you can create value and a business model out of shrewd player transactions, just as Karlsen says. A comment from a former Rovers manager also ties in with this approach and also struck a chord with me..."I hope to bring the right age group that will become sellable assets in the future and hopefully I'll replace them before they get sold on so we have a continuing loop of good players."
It's easier said than done, I appreciate that, but until the area of recruitment improves we will always be treading water...

Just two little questions. How many of these players have you seen in the flesh - meaning you were at a stadium watching them play ? And how many Rovers games did you watch last season - again at the stadium ? Thanks.

Watched about 6 games last season at the stadium (due to ill health), a few more on tv/dvd.
