I was under the impression that we went halves with Bristol RFC on the west stand - am I mistaken? Yes you are mistaken. It was half built when we commenced playing at the Mem. Completed by the end of the first season.

It's interesting that other clubs around the country create their own facilities, seemingly trouble-free, and yet every project since 1980s here, in Bristol area and surrounds has been strangled, hampered or just plain scuppered. That's years upon years of progress halted because of poor forward thought, funding non promises, council opposition, local opposition, political opponents getting involved, etc etc....any excuse.(?) Scunthorpe among others broke the trend in 80s and moved out of town. Now even their ground is considered old hat. Why is this part of the world so difficult to redevelop in name of sport (franchise apart)? For sport/leisure infrastructure also see 'public transport' . Both sides of the same coin...

I always found Ron to be perfectly charming, and good taste in wrist watches also. Now there's an hobby that can easily eat your money up. I absolutely love watches and have 3 decent ones but even a service can see the best part of a grand gone. Wish I'd have been his close friend. Maybe he'd have left me one ! ( JOKE) My circa 1965 Omega constellation is my favourite. Had to have it valued for insurance and was very pleasantly shocked. Something to invest in if you have spare cash. Old Porsche's and watches will give a much higher return than any bank and by a long way

It's an anathema to football grounds and looks exactly like a cricket pavilion. I wonder whose idea it was to sign off on that particular design ?

Long story so don't want to post it all here but treatment looked like it was maybe working but latest bloods show high active disease & I passed out while undergoing lung function tests. Personally & going on gut feel, it's bad. I'm on a ridiculous amount of morphine ( Irene , I'll take morphine & die) LOL Trying very hard to keep fighting but I feel it's a losing battle. Thank you very much for asking. It's very much appreciated

I admire your taste KP Ps if you need an Omega or Rolex service I recommend Rocco Manfredi of the Watchworks, Ashley Down Road, he serviced my Omega Seamaster a couple of years ago it was about £225.

Thank you VERY much. I've been putting off servicing the Tag Monaco & IWC portugeiser due to cost but both are now running slow and so really need the help. I did try the idea of selling both, for my fundraiser but due to my unreasonable attachment, I just couldn't. I've so very little left of value now that I just couldn't do it. I was quoted £875 to service the IWC. Just silly but they say they take it apart completely and any parts are included in the price, I should coco too , cheeky feckers

Thursday is the day to go to the Watchworks as he's usually open, the other days he stays shut as his work is so critical he doesnt wish to be disturbed. He's done all my watches since he first moved there 25 years ago,a true craftsman and a smashing bloke too.

I see that Russian money laundering operation is still going well on the South Coast then... It's a shame our backers do not appear in any hurry to spend any serious money in the near future, cant even be bother to kick on with developing a training ground, now talking rubbish about possibly rebuilding the MEM.

I didn't suggest it went anywhere other than running costs Kev. But it certainly sounds like it wasn't going to build a stadium at Stoke Gifford or anywhere else I know you never Stu but it is always one which crops up and people often accuse unnamed people of financial gain. It was under the control of Martin Flook and Boycie that the Stoke Gifford stadium was going to be built. I remember them giving out blue 2 fold leaflets at Eastville showing details. shame they hadn't told the council first

They are spending money, unfortunately it is via a £10m revolving credit facility, secured against our only asset.

Those are good choices of clubs, if you are suggesting that we build a ground with a capacity smaller than the Mem!
Walsall - Nope, 27 years ago. Capacity only 11,000 Shrewsbury - Capacity only just over 10,000 Chesterfield - 8,500 Colchester - Capacity 10,000 and owned by the Council, not the club Scunny - Nope, 29 years ago. Capacity 9,000 Forest Green (before Stale Mince arrived) - Capacity 5,000 Oxford - Capacity 12,500 and not owned by the club Burton - Capacity 7,000 Wycombe - Nope, 27 years ago. Capacity 10,000
Most of these clubs were able to pay for thier new grounds by selling thier existing grounds for development and buying cheaper land elsewhere. We could do that, if our ambition was to build a 10,000 seater stadium. But that would be a bit pointless, wouldn't it?
Gillingham refurbished thier stadium, but faced severe financial problems as a result, eventually selling the ground to a holding company. Blackpool - a couple of small new stands, funded by the Oyston family Orient - a couple of small new stands, paid for by Barry Hearn.
The football club has paid for and built a permanent structure since the Tote End in 1935. I dream of something like Sparda-Bank-Hessen-Stadion or Stadion An der Alten Försterei. You are forgetting the all seater bus stop stand at Twerton

You are forgetting the all seater bus stop stand at Twerton Covered by insurance from the Grand Stand arson. I would have thought the insurance company would have just paid for the grandstand to be rebuilt/refitted. Did they pay for the additional stand as well?

Not really but just dealing the best with what is there as most do. I am finding it more difficult as things get worse
