I think we should listen to Geoff, after all he is very experienced when it comes to not building stadiums. He ensuring Rovers owned their first stadium since 1940 which is worth acknowledging.
Keeping the rugby club afloat was also noteworthy particularly commercially to Rovers as they paid rent for many years at the Mem till their departure to the theatre of dreams.
And he kept the riff raff out.

I don't know what some of you have against Geoff Dunford. Without him and his father we would have gone out of business when we were chucked out of Eastville, and Geoff Dunford is the reason we now own the Mem. So from nothing to a 10 million asset. Better than ANY other chairman in that respect. Either some of you are too young to remember that or you are just ungrateful so and so's. I think since Wael showed up some people have caught the "big club" syndome

I think since Wael showed up some people have caught the "big club" syndome OK I'll bite. I'm 50, was there for the first game at Twerton, 31 years ago. Also now 21 years ago since moving to the Mem. Until 18 months ago, to call the administration of Bristol Rovers as amateur would be insulting to anyone who does sports administration unpaid. The entire ground improvements have consisted of a roof, paid for by us fans and not the club. Dunford, along with his faithful lap dog Tinpot Toni Watola, embraced and encouraged a culture of BRFC which leads to fans being seen as people to be spoken to, not with, Santas Grotto, crumbling terraces, Wonga loans and Conference football. Higgs takes a lot of flack but he was just following Geoff Dunford's legacy. In my experience he is a petulant child who throws his toys out of the pram if ever questioned, and is very fortunate to have come from the seed of a truly great man in Dennis. Some of the tactics employed by him and his cronies to keep the fans on board would make the East German Stasi proud. We have made more strides off the pitch in the last 18 months than we did in the previous 18 years. So for him to have a cheap pop at the Al Qadi family when he has been responsible for a minimum of 8 failed stadium attempts somewhat sticks in the gullet tbh. It's fair to say I'm not a fan...

I supported him for most of his time in control.

GD seems to be saying "what's wrong with leasehold" but I thought our problems since WW2 were because we didn't own a ground. It might work for supermarkets & similar but surely sports clubs need security of tenure. At Eastville and Twerton and the first years at the Mem we didn't hold a lease on the ground and own the stadium so completely different situations. All we ever were was the tenants. GD is right there is nothing fundamentally wrong with leasehold particularly if it's for a 125 years or more as I've yet to ever come across a company that has a 125 year business plan

If you look down the comments of GD's post, you'll spot the following words, to Chris Brown (who leaked the news), from the esteemed 'Bristol Rovers Historian', Mike Jay:
"Chris anyone who calls you a belter deserves a slap!"
... what a guy.

Is the title an official one, or just something that's kind of bestowed upon him because he has a load of reference books and doesn't mind looking things up?

I'm pretty sure Belter is not an official title. Oh Historian.

I'm sure in interviews with the Bristol Post and programmes like Points West, Mike has been referred to us such. As we're moving forwards in other areas, such as increased medical staff, perhaps it would be a good idea for the club to make the official historian a professional post. Some to look after the club history, records, memorabilia, photos etc. What we have left that wasn't destroyed in the Eastville fire, this is! When this new stadium is built, we could have a little museum section, all about the club's history - staffed by a professional, someone acting professionally like.

Hes right there is nothing fundamentally wrong with a leasehold, although I suspect the sticking points was much more about division of revenue than leasehold/freehold question.

Is Richard ....Ringo's brother per chance who the hell is Laurie ....Shaun's sister maybe. He was educated at Millfield (not a lot of people know that)
Be Club historian is more than looking things up in books I assure you. In his hey day Chris Brown would surely have given you a firm slap which is richly deserved.
Keyboard warriors as dear Geoff calls you like to spout all sorts of nonsense it makes you fell better I guess.
