So who is the no brainer Clarke refers to about loan signings the only two players that fit that brief in Clarke's eyes would surely have to be Sweeney or Taylor ! Presumably it's whichever of our trialists who failed the mandatory IQ test.

Complete irrational bollocks Maybe Pete, but you gotta draw the line somewhere. Bear in mind also that he betrayed (or whatever word you want to use) DC & his teammates - they might at least have got into the playoffs had he stayed. Most of all though - I'm not convinced he's really that good. I wouldn't know if DC and the squad would want/have him back. But that it is a different situation to us as fans. If DC and the squad didn't trust him and felt betrayed, than I could understand the working relationship could be awkward
As a fan nowadays, getting worked up about some slight a player may or may not have done to 'our' club is pretty pointless. Clubs do there fair share of shafting (or trying to shaft) players as well. BRFC has form, but it doesn't benefit clubs to publicise or make a big deal out of that, but they will throw a player under the bus at a drop of a hat because it makes (or makes them think) they look better in the eyes of the fans.
Who knows what went on with the Taylor situation, but if DC felt he was a good fit and could integrate him into the squad again, than I would bow to DC's better knowledge than a few fans who think they have been personally offended in some weird way

...the mandatory IQ test. There are players I have seen play for Rovers who demonstrated perfectly that the IQ test - is not mandatory.

I would sooner cheer Ian Huntley playing for the Gas than Matty Taylor now. Seriously. good grief , this takes some topping ! It came to me in a moment of raging inspiration. Made myself chuckle.

I don't get the whole "Snake" name.
Yes, I was hurt by the whole move to City thing, but the truth is that he made a mistake, and it looks at the moment like it has not worked out for him.
Like it or not, Matty Taylor has already earned legend status at our club and I hope that history will recognise this. I will never boo him.
Whilst he was a Bristol Rovers player, none could fault his commitment, and none could also doubt his talent. We missed his goals last season, that is a fact.
I would take him back in a heartbeat, but as Peter Parker said, it would have to be on OUR terms.
If you remove emotion from this decision, Matty Taylor is a proven goalscorer at this level and would do an amazing job, taking pressure of the rest of the team.

But otherwise agree 100%. Emotion is nice and all but too much emotion blinds one from the facts as they are.

The thing is that I remember the dark days of May 2014, and I am eternally grateful for every single employee of Bristol Rovers FC that has contributed to our current resurgence. We gave Matty Taylor the opportunity to move up the football league, and we as a club rode the wave as well. It is a mutual thing.

I agree, Rich, it shouldn't be forgotten what Matty the Mercenary did for us and likewise what we did for his career.
While MT behaved like a mercenary it was City who really embarrassed themselves with the fee, the timing and the press release etc. etc. The whole thing was classless!

Trouble with those acting classless, they don't care how they are perceived, they just do it anyway. But those that might have a bit end up seeing it for what it is and have some regrets hopefully.

I get all the anger at MT and the ill feeling that he caused but it's over, gone we've moved on. I honestly do not wish him any ill and that is because he was great for us and we were great for him. It works both ways. I will never forget May/ June / July 2014, it was awful, I couldn't listen to Five live on the radio, the World Cup was awful, I couldn't look at the internet or any gossip about football, I had to try and enjoy cricket and concentrate on that. And as you can imagine being a Somerset member comes with its own misery! Blimey I even listened to Classic fm instead of 5live because I just couldn't listen to anything to do with football! When I looked on the club website it was full of b***** car boot sales ffs. It was awful and then the football started in August and we were in bottom 4 at the end of August, how bad could it get? At that point if someone had said "don't worry in a years time you'll be back in the league and in two years you'll be in league 1 but MT will have joined Bristol ****." I would have bitten their hand off. Yes it was bad that he joined them but I will always be grateful that his goals put us back where we belong, upper mid table league 1. Thanks MT, you and many others deserve our thanks. Sometimes no matter what, you have to look at the bigger picture. Now we welcome Tom Nichols to the club and get behind him. UTG!
ps I don't expect others to agree!

(Paragraph 1 describes how you felt three years ago, and no-one's in a position to agree that that's how you felt, but I have no grounds to disagree with you).

Na, for me snake is about right.
I've clapped that I hate Bristol Sh*try more than once, he's chosen to swap us for them, so to me he's a selfish cnut.
I'm not a hypocrite, just the way I see it.
Others have done it with dignity, but the whole saga was conducted in poor taste, so that's where it's left.
Thanks for the good times, Snakeything, there's a nice fella and F OFF..

I'll never understand how people can be so hateful of players and clubs and especially over football of all things. Yes, yes, Bristol City are our rivals, yadda yadda. Then let's hope to beat them in a game and have a laugh instead of sweating in anger over a b***h move they did a season ago. It's way past the time to be wondering about that now. And also let us not forget that footballers who live and die for their clubs are a rare breed - and that's ok!! it's a job. Football is full of hate though isnt it? Hate the ref Hate the linesman Hate most players who have left Hate the opponents Hate the opponents fans Hate bristol city Hate ellis harrison Hate matty taylor Hate forest green rovers Hate any player in the team who is struggling for form Hate darrell clarke, well at least until it became obvious he was good at his job. most must hate children too listening to the language they use in front of them,no wonder there are so few now compared to yesteryear. Very sad really Poignant and true. The tribal nature of the game, I guess. I'm glad dad took us to both. Hatred destroys all good things.
