Hi guys,
I don't post on here that often but there is an interesting 'rumour' that is worth sharing. Someone I know and works with the club has heard that we have had a bid accepted by Stevenage for Matthew Godden and we are now speaking with the player and trying to agree terms. Apparently he has two other options aswell as us, one from a league two club and one from another league one club.
My source doesn't make up crap, however this is what he has so say heard from inside the club. Another rumour I know but I suppose we'll see in the weeks ahead!

Seen we were 'linked' with him on twitter (along with Paddy Madden)
Certainly seems to have a decent scoring record at lower lever and scored 20 last year.
26 in July, looks like he could be a decent signing if true

Would be very happy with this, but I imagine one of the bigger L1 clubs will be after him?

I wonder what the price is then ? As much as we need a decent goal scorer, we can't be paying over the odds. Seems DC has started a trend in league clubs looking at non league players My view is that a striker, a decent one, will score regardless. The gulf between EFL and NL is much less now.

And Rotherham have parachute payments that need to make them work for them.. They are only big in the way they've been more successful than alot of clubs recently, but as we all know, downward slides are difficult to stop unless you have the money, support and management structure behind the club even before you consider players or team spirit etc..

Do teams get 'parachute payments' for relegation from the Championship? I guess they must get something to cope with the drop down financially.
Blackburn getting in Peter Whittingham is the best bit of business by the relegated sides so far, great player for this level.
I imagine if we are spending £150k on Sercombe we'd at least spend the MT fee on a new striker, maybe more than that. Would support a fee like that going on a player like Godden for sure.

Are you sure your chairman is in the same place as you are now? Did he say conveniently no payments were made, then take a nice big holiday?!

I thought Godden was out of contract. Still a big signing on fee I would imagine. UTG!

He is out of contract so i guess its a bidding war between interested clubs. On paper this would be a very good signing.

....oh sorry, that was most of your support. They must be on holiday? Fair comment, to lose more than 3,000 fans in three or four seasons takes some doing. Mainly due to the utter dissatisfaction at those running the club, sadly. Not to go too far off topic though. No, as I said I'm almost sure there's no parachute payments from Championship to League One, or Leagues One to Two. No extended holidays were taken by senior club staff either.

Looking more likely now that Godden will be leaving Stevenage as they have signed Newton from Tamworth.
