As someone who has supported and attended games 50+ years - Oh the pain.....
I find the lunch concept odd - working day 'Thursday' .. for those of us still a slave to the wage its a non-starter?
I suppose for those lucky enough to had retired - 'pre-work them till the grave' [Tory England] it might appeal?

Hmmm Tory Cabal - don't they work us poor plebs to the grave? [What's retirement Dad?]
I suppose sat around discussing 'Double Diamond - works wonders' or 'Hofmeister and Follow the bear' on a wet Thursday afternoon might appeal to a certain generation.
That's it I'm booking every Thursday off between now and the new year!!
Watney' s Red Label ............ there's a thread developing here - a blurry one

I think the discussion will be more about Alfie Biggs and Alex Munro rather than keg beers and watery lager (well I hope so anyway).

As I was 8 when I first went to Eastville and we stood on the Open end I don't know the answer to this, however I did go in the North enclosure a couple of times so I will guess that the beer wasn't Smiles ! Later I did go into the 'glasshouse' in the South stand after a game, they served the beer in glasses up there not on planks,I think that the lager was Skol but I wouldn't swear to it.

I was two when I was carried to my first game in 1962 apparently but my first real memory was 1969 Gloucestershire cup final. City won 5-0 at Eastville and I have felt sorry for Rovers ever since.

I'm exactly half way towards being allowed to attend the Blue Diamond club. I hope it still exists in twenty five years time in order for me to be able to legitimately object to its ageist entry rules without it looking like I'm jealous.

By coincidence I was thinking about this earlier, when you look around at matches the majority of the crowd look over 40,it does make me wonder how clubs will manage in 25 years time when a large percentage of people who go now are dead or to old to attend any more.
There is no age restriction as far as I am aware, partners ( and I guess Carers) are able to attend.

Seems like a great initiative.
People retire at different stages in life, and those that qualify, but are still working, could take a half day if keen to join in. It sounds like a Probus Club set up, with dinner and speakers, but maybe less formal; or the Masons without the dodgy handshakes, and whatever else.
This follows on from other Community Trust schemes like 'Extra Time', which have proven an excellent way for the more mature supporter to help cope with things like alzheimers. 'Blue Diamond Club' might not be aimed at the same people as 'Extra Time', but it will certainly be something to help with general wellbeing, where folk are able to get together and reminisce about old times. 50 years? Surely that should be 'Blue Gold Club', or even 'Golden Blues Club'? Diamond would be for 60 years supporting. Or am I missing something?

Which match in 78 was your first ? My first Rovers match was April 1st (67)....
