No not that one the famous one on the glos road, does anybody know what is happening to it, perhaps it's back open already,if not how about wael putting his hand in his supposedly deep pockets and turning it into the memorial sports bar, that's if the new ground doesn't come to fruition,a bit of a down and dirty pub for some but most older gasheads associate with that,it's either this or somebody turning into a gastro pub for the s**theads !

I will miss the Vic as we had a few Tote end old farts get togethers in there, also if I went in there before a game there was always somebody that I had known from going to Rovers in the 70's. I think its the last of the old fashioned Rovers boozers, the White Swan in Eastville was the first one that I went in. People these days don't want stand up and drink pubs like the Railway or the Vic so they are virtually all gone, replaced by pubs that concentrate more on meals or trendier bars.

Community spirit and life has changed so much that the Wetherspoons type of pub ( I hate even calling them pubs really) habe had an increasingly easier ride in taking over. If you're happy paying less for ales that are so close to use dates that they factor the loss into their accounts, then that is your kind of pub. One of our own took over the Royal archer but soon realised it was a doomed odyssey and I was absolutely gutted when I saw it flattened overnight and I mean overnoght. There were no warnings or posters on lampposts and no one had the chance to laugh a CSV to stop it The beers now make so few pence per unit that food HAS to be served just to make it a goer. I'm afraid that the nation of pub lovers and the pubs that served as a community hub are well and truly over. IF you live in an area where you still have a good boozer then use it and cherish it. I aalways tell anyone that will listen that I learned more in the archer, about real life, than ever I did at school. You got your meats, cheese, ciggies, car insurance and so much more via these places. Mechanics, brickies, plumbers and all trades etc. I mourn the loss of the traditional British pub, an institution that was so much more than a place to drink. Look after your local or lose it. It really is as simple as that the landlady of the vic is now being threatened with court for apparent debts on not selling an agreed amount of pints. It's bloody shameful

The archer first then the Essex then end up at the star. I've some happy memories of that place

The Star was going downhill for a bit, but under the current landlord Brendan its going strong again. Bank holidays are still legendary

Was in the star last night. Had a great time and given it was a Thursday, decent numbers. A friend came back from Canada so a reunion was arranged with me the only gas. I gave as good as I got. Did me good. First time out since the Millwall game.
