2 MAY 1990. The night we won promotion to the Second Division (Now Championship) after beating favourites and bitter rivals Bristol City 3-0 at Twerton Park.
As Bristol City promotion push stuttered, the local derby on Weds 2nd May assumed gargantuan proportions. If Rovers won to preserve their unbeaten home record, promotion to Division Two would be assured, but defeat would hand the championship to City. It was certainly not a night for the faint-hearted. A glorious two-goal display from Devon White, one in each half and a late Holloway penalty sealed the promotion push and Rovers were back in Division Two.
First, White put Rovers in front after twenty-five minutes when Andy Llewellynβs slip allowed David Mehew to cross the ball, then he doubled the lead after Carl Saunders beat Rob Newman to cross; then, when Andy Llewellyn handled Phil Purnellβs shot after 62 minutes, Holloway sent goalkeeper Ron Sinclair the wrong way from the penalty-spot.
A night of high drama before a record home crowd for a game at Twerton Park, 9,831, will live long in the memory for all gasheads. Happy days indeed.

If I could go back to one point in history it would be this one! My dad wouldn't let me go with him as I was only 9 and he knew there'd be trouble from the teds, but my god, I wish I had been there! I watched the video I recorded of the highlights so many times I knew the words!

It must be awfully difficult to count properly when you are an illiterate inbred sheed with too many fingers and toes. Expect he is off to buy his ST for next year now the ickle devil incarnate has done what many there were saying he couldn't do. Fickle bunch of thicko's.

Ha ha! Triggered indeed! Without doubt the best game of football I've ever witnessed. It still rankles with the 82ers that we turned them over to win the League - that makes it even sweeter! UTG! RTID!

I was down there last saturday, the place is a dump, the bogs still stink, the roof leaks but to me its heaven, so many happy memories there. I feel a little sorry for the younger gas who have only known the mem, as to me eastville and twerton were something special.

He's heard so much about the place he's probably expecting it to be like Wembley! I hope he can feel the love too though! π

No Anniversary thread for May 3rd??
Not everyday a club drops out of the entire football league losing at home to a side with nothing to play for when you only needed a draw....
Here's to May 3rd! Sponsored by Mr Colin Daniel.
Non league eh? Forgive me, I don't know what it's like... ππππ

You seem a little obsessed, like a jilted lover, outside his ex-partners house, ringing the house phone, waiting for her to pick up, she says hello, you hang up, tears pour down your cheek, you've lost her, she left you because you're a big stalky freak.

And for all this looking back to one night 27 years ago.... It is us that attend Championship matches. According to your fans no one would attend whilst the ickle devil incarnate ways still there. Many saying they would not renew their season ticket if he stayed. Which is it? Short memories. Make your minds up....fickle bunch of inbreds.
