I'm guessing the leader of the Ellis abuse was also calling for Higgs to return as director of football? Had it not been for Ellis' form in the conference run in we wouldn't have been a keeper error/shocking refereeing decision depending on your point of view; from the title and he then went onto score the most important goal in the club's contemporary history. Without the Wembley win we'd have probably spent the next season on a budget so small DC's mates from Salisbury would've been marquee signings, defeats to teams of scaffolders and PE teachers would've become so regular they wouldn't warrant 20 page forum meltdowns, DC would've been sacked and Higgs would've probably tried everyone from Stewy to Russell Slade to Kay in the ship in charge looking for that winning formula. Okay excuse my hyperbole, but my point is we're looking at a lad that's scored close to 40 goals for the club and generally works hard for the team, yet he suffers abuse worse than I can ever recall wasters like Kenneth, Reagan and Blizzard getting. I really hope Ellis and his agent are savvy enough to think long and hard about what club he agrees to join in the summer and doesn't just go for the biggest pay cheque as with the right coaching, support and mentoring he has huge untapped potential. I hear people saying 'he's 23 now, he can no longer be seen as just potential'. Bulls***. Players mature at different ages and he's miles ahead of where s***head snake, Lambert and Vardy were at 23. Thanks for that, kwg, I hadn't considered that myself - but you are absolutely right. All three of them were a couple of years older than Ellis is now before they started to achieve anything more than mediocrity, and two have gone on to play for England - and the other for the mighty Bristol City (I jest!). I hope that Ellis is still here next season - he is better in the air than any other striker on our books and willing to do his share of defending. I must admit, though, that I thought he should have been substituted yesterday - until he scored. I think the cliché we're scrabbling for here is 'Ian Wright'
but its a good point. It wasn't so long ago that Ellis was said to have something like 'immaturity issues'. I haven't heard anything about that for a while now. All part of growing up and being British, I think, and he's got the raw material to kick on in my view. Marcus was conspicuously supportive of him in the post-match interview

'Late goal decides the game and delays the inevitable' Why not the headline 'Another 3 points in a record breaking season'? Because SteveK192's intelligent and readable reports are too often laced with disdain, arrogance and sarcasm. Sad really.

your own post seems to me, on the other hand, replete with disdain, and hints at arrogance

'I have noted little or zero evidence of any disdain, arrogance or sarcasm' It seems we get different meanings from the English language.

I saw the game almost exactly as Steve did. Thought Harris and Partington did OK and Sweeney and Locks were magnificent. Locks would have been my MOM by a whisker as he really didn't put a foot wrong, but then again neither did Sweeney. I really hope we can find a way to sign both him and Lumley, who I also thought had an excellent game.
In midfield I thought Bodin was the pick though not everything he tried came off but he is that sort of player. The little flick with the outside of his boot that put a gilt edged chance on a plate for James was pure class and no-one else in our team would have spotted the opportunity, much less created the chance. Sometimes also with him, his decision making is not always the best and I think the price we pay for having his creative brain is that he will occasionally cause problems for the team by trying something more intricate than the easy ball. Personally it's a price I would always be willing to pay for the magic he is capable of. Glad we still have him.
Sincs was his usual self and gave 200% but for me we are weaker with him in the middle and I think we are really missing Ollie Clarke. Lines did OK but still isn't my type of player. Thought Montana and Moore both did OK without too much end product - arguably Moore was the more effective of the two with the fierce shot he sadly couldn't keep down. I thought Ellis did OK with terrible service. His goal was well taken and the potential goal saving tackle he made in our box was excellent. All too often however all he had to deal with were long balls punted forwards or a pass from just inside their half. I suspect he would be much more effective if we could get the ball to his feet 20 or 30 yards further upfield. He might be the fox in the box with a bit of aerial prowess if we used him better.
Although I appreciate his industry, I've seen enough of Luke James. The miss from Bodin's clever pass was the final straw for me as at the very least it should have been on target.
Broom's cameo was good and showed he can cut it at this level, but I didn't see anything in Easter's performance to suggest he is worth keeping for another season.
Oldham will probably think themselves unlucky not to come away with a point and I don't think we really deserved to win it. They certainly weren't the worst team I have seen at the Mem by any stretch of the imagination. It was quite a scrappy and disjointed performance for me, and although I'd love to be proved wrong, think we will end up 3-6 points short of the play-offs

Read a few mentions of miller in this thread rovers had their chance to buy him but thought the asking price was silly he has scored 35 goals to date and still counting his asking price will be a lot more at the end of the season what a missed opportunity.

Minor point...The Dover chairman said he wouldn't sell Miller for less than 7 figures. Our board would have been lambasted for spending that, probably by you City fans and us Rovers fans too.

Is he not out of contract in the summer? That was my reasoning for suggesting him.

The rest of the comment is just plain odd.

But Steve's reports are not so laced at all. Why not discuss your disagreements with Steve's opinions? He never objects to such debate. Generic criticism of his reports seems like a waste of your time. I love reading them. Some like to debate about them. Get interested, mate. Or read another report.

If you can get to all the matches and can write such detailed reports, then yes, absolutely. If not (I couldn't) then just disagree and argue respectfully about football. Isn't that why we're reading this thread? A lot of the most interesting such arguments follow these reports. The forum would be much poorer if Steve stopped writing them.
