Doesn't look good for Saturday in my opinion must sit in allocated seats strictly no standing bars will be open half time if there isn't any trouble and by the way our so called safety officer told Coventry to make the match all ticket and also told them not to open any bar's to away supporters under any circumstances so he's the prat who caused us all the agro of getting tickets for this match think he could be renamed the unsafety officer after Saturday.

Do the basics right and you get a beer at half-time! If sitting in the correct seat as requested isn't achievable, you shouldn't be allowed out on a Saturday afternoon!
UTG.

Op has a valid title and topic because scrutiny will be placed on us to be responsible fans in the wake of the Port Vale fiasco.

I will be very ( pleasantly ) surprised if there isnt some sort of problem on Saturday,Coventry fans upset and may protest and apparently heavy handed stewards plus a large away contingent, all the right ingredients for something to go wrong.

I for one will find it hard to sit down for 90 minutes no chance proper seat no problem if we can stand at Portsmouth then why not at Coventry you cannot make somebody sit when they don't want to it isn't the law.

We all know what will happen. Its a big crowd, some fans will get there timely have a drink and find their seats. Then others will try sitting whereever they want 5 or 10 minutes prior to kick off and it will cause trouble.
I dont know how hard it is for people to just suck it up and sit in the seat on their ticket when their is a big following. Might need to get used to it when we travel to tbe big clubs regularly.

For the life of me, I have never quite understood the problem with sitting in the 'right' seat.

It may or may not be the law, but it is a condition of entry. Sit where you are entitled and you get a chance to enjoy the game. Sit anywhere else, or stand up which may ruin the view of the supporter behind you or cause a safety hazzard (which you may or may not agree with but it isnt your decision), then expect to be spoken to or ejected. Not dificult. Oh, and if the bars are not open at ht you can use the time to count how many Coventry fans are in attendence for your fascinating weekly updates.

Well, if you stand up in front of me and block my view you will feel my wrath believe me. Now when we are attacking or score that would be acceptable as long as you sit down again afterwards.

I suggest everyone plays dumb and ask a steward where there seat is located. Guaranteed they'll start vaguely waving at some unoccupied seats and by default those empty seats will be the 'right' seat. Hopefully you'll then be able to stand up in front of some sanctimonious twat

As the Latvian says, what is with the allocation of seating? Causes 10x more issues than unallocated.
The so called safety officer can do one as well.

Blimey what is the problem with allocated seating? I suspect when we get our new stadium which will be all-seater because that's what it's got to be in the Championship or above we will have some unhappy fans! You buy a seat, it has a number on it and you are expected to sit there, not in another seat that someone else has bought. Simple! What is the problem with that? Yes, perhaps people do prefer to stand but they don't have a right to in all-seater stadiums, read the fine print on the tickets! (That's a joke I know, we never read it!) However they do have a responsibility not to act like a knobhead and spoil someone else's afternoon. Progress up the leagues looks like it will cause problems! Saturday will be a good practice for going away if we get in the Championship! My hard hat is on! UTG!

The problem is the fact it isn't policeable, so whilst I might want to sit in my seat, there's another bloke in it. He's in it because some other bloke is in his, but that's not his fault cos some other bloke is in his and he's not moving. All of which is exacerbated by the fact that football fans travel in groups, so its 16 x people in the wrong place to begin with. There's two solutions, one is stewards that do their jobs and the other is unallocated seats.

Sorry astaf, you normally make sound sense but that is not!! If you had unallocated seating all over the stadium then the problems you get in the away end would be replicated all over the stadium. When people go to cinema or any other entertainment with seats you usually have to sit in the seat you have bought. I see no problem with that. UTG!

It's a condition of sale, so you sign up to it when you buy a ticket. That concept is 'the law'. So sit down. Portsmouth FC had all manner of problems relocating from an old ground, ahead of having other things to worry about, so they are still at said old ground, which has standing areas. The Ricoh is not an old ground pending relocation, so doesn't have standing. That's why you can stand at Portsmouth, but not at Coventry. Pretty simple, really. Bet you're kicking yourself now.

There's two solutions, one is stewards that do their jobs and the other is unallocated seats. I agree with you that it isn't policed and stewards are part of the problem. You are absolutely correct. As you say if ... if... if it does exacerbate the situation. But we will have to get used to it because in the Championship that is what will happen so we had better get used to it, I hope! Bournemouth have had an all-seater stadium for 15 years and it's all allocated seating and there's no problem. Are you saying that BRFC fans are incapable of reading a ticket or of realising that they have a responsibility to sit in their seat and watch the football? I don't want to argue but we are going to have to get used to allocated seating aren't we if we get the UWE or similar or get promoted to the Championship. I don't think we can expect a set of rules for everyone else and a different set when Rovers ride into town. We will have to learn modern seating rules. UTG!

The so called safety officer can do one as well. in general unallocated seating away from home should be ok where there is plenty of room. However we know why stands are netted off, ostensibly so it is easier to steward and people arent strung out across a big stand. With unallocated seating the same would happen anyway as already does. Some will get there early pick a good seat and other will turn up just before kick off trying to squeeze 3 people into 2 seats. If we get to the championship or the prem and we actually have a finite number of seats are we going to have the same problems every other week?

If we get to the championship or the prem and we actually have a finite number of seats are we going to have the same problems every other week? Where allocated is concerned, you can open the turnstiles at 1:30, have the first 10 people walk in, decide to choose their spot wherever they like and the whole arrangement for 4000 people has gone to s**t. For me, sell your allocation, sit where you like. Last season at Pompey for example, I was in the away end by 2:15, it was a free for all wherever you wanted to be. I was faced with 4 blokes who waltzed in bang on kick off claiming I was 'in their seat'. Thankfully everyone was standing anyway so it was a non issue. I'm totally generalising here, but does it seem like those who only go to the 'big away games' are more anal about sitting where their ticket states, allocated or otherwise? In my experience, probably.
