You probably heard that James Mcnamara, the Rovers reporter at the Bristol Post has moved on.
His replacement is Jack Vittles and he wants to hear from anyone who was actually at the last time we played at Coventry City in the league. It was 23rd Nov 1963. Slightly strangely we played them again at Highfield Road just 2 weeks after, in our only ever FA Cup meeting with them.
If you did, or now anyone who did, feel free to contact him - Jack.Vittles@localworld.co.uk

He has a pleasingly old school surname that would have fitted Coventry in 1963 like a glove. I hope he sticks it out - huge potential for novelty column titles if he became a long term name associated with the paper.
'Vittles Vitals' - A list of critical facts for the Weekend's games. 'Plenty of Vittles' - controversial opinions from the Post's man on the ground.
Unfortunately, I did not attend in 1963 as I was disappointingly not born for another 20 years.

We left Temple Meads on the Friday night getting the Mallard via Royal Leamington Spa. Fringum and Pauly Paul Paul got in a Watney Party 7 each and Big Salton was on a bottle of vodka he'd bought back from Poland after the war. It was the height of the swinging sixties and we managed bag a couple of hippy lasses to get randy with in carriage number 4, one of them was called Paula and was ginger, that was the style of the day. As we arrived in Coventry we took in the sights, a city obliterated by the Germans and being made more ugly by brutalist architecture. We met a good friend Crimpo outside Highfield Road on a scooter, he was eating a spam fritter made from spam and batter. Tony "The Dolton" Dolton was also there, he had zero spam. Anyway, we went in, swang around our rattles and enjoyed the atmosphere before smashing the sh*t out of some Cov Rockers. Great day out.

Check the music Each generation thinks they invented drink, weed and more but the facts are much different in that it was much easier to get hold of many mind bending substances. Obviously though, no one had sex. That wouldn't do eh old chap. Anything for the weekend sir lol

I also remember the pharmacist making up his own concoctions that included the use of a huge brown jar/jug of tincture of opium. I was born in 63 so I would guess this was at least 68. Obviously I can't speak of how it was elsewhere but I remember many of my brothers friends handing out tablets.

I believe it was 1931 that things changed. Prior to that as long as you had no criminal record, you would just sign a register. What a change eh

I went to the home game that season. I believe we lost one nil. I too went to that game. My outstanding memories are that Coventry played in green and black vertical striped shirts, and that it absolutely bucketed down the whole of the game.
