Good read but "He had had a mediocre playing career, barely registering on anybody’s radar outside of Mansfield and Hartlepool United". a tad harsh I feel.

Well written and concise account of last 3years that puts things in perspective.
Great read!

Probablyu the best article I've seen about Rovers for many years. I don't think it is harsh about DCs playing career, just accurate, and very fair comments about the approach form Leeds.

"Clarke was on a hiding to nothing. Despite winning his first game in charge, he was unable to prevent a run of seven winless games as Rovers slipped into the bottom two"
The win mentioned being Morecambe, but the following 7 weren't winless. We did beat Wycombe too.

A little bit inaccurate as D.C. Was a midfielder and not a centreback and also as well as beating morecombe in his first we also beat Wycombe

Good read but "He had had a mediocre playing career, barely registering on anybody’s radar outside of Mansfield and Hartlepool United". a tad harsh I feel. Probably fair enough in the grand scheme of things - it depends on the perspective of the author. I'm not familiar with the website but if this is something that is written on a national scale to an audience of people from all over the country then that's likely a reasonable comment. How many people outside of Mansfield and Hartlepool would have been aware of his playing exploits? Not many I bet - he certainly has a higher profile now as a manager than he ever achieved as a player. I don't think there's any doubt about that. I don't think it's dismissive either - I think DC would probably define himself as a player in similar terms. Mediocre doesn't crap after all - it just means average and not standing out.

Anothe very good article. I was at most games that season including the big wins at Reading and Oxford (still at the run down non-League style Manor Ground) and for that final disgraceful performance at Cardiff. I remember I'd bought the full set of 'Goodnight Irene' Cassettes (remember them?) from a shop in Old Market, and played them in the car all the way there and back in the car.
(Didn't Holloway describe Roberts and Cureton as 'chokers' in his radio interview post-match?)

the main thing I took from that article is a reminder of how lower league economics have changed
we paid £250k for Bazza from Stevenage, and sold him for £2m. Nowadays the big clubs have such a stranglehold on player development and TV money that, after 20 years of inflation, we don't go anywhere near those sort of numbers nowadays

Can't get through that - still too painful! I stopped going for 6 season after that. I even bought into some of the conspiracy theories. A very bad year was that
