I understand he has retired from playing to enable time to complete his coaching badges. A dedicated pro and a fine stopper no frills central defender. The last Rovers player to score against Bristol City. His only career goal for the Club.
Hope he stays in the game.

Good solid and honest pro who never let us down on the pitch, and even more importantly stayed with us in our darkest hour.
Will always get a warm welcome from me whenever he is back at the mem. In an ideal world would have a continuing role at the club, even if it was a non-playing one.
Good luck Macca, wherever you go, and hope to see you back here from time to time.

I have agreed that our hotel will be his 'shirt sponsor' for the upcoming season, so if anyone fancies a trip to the emerald isle this season and see Macca, please let me know!

Crusaders FC
Tuesday 18th July
"Crusaders are pleased to announce the signing of Mark McChrystal on a one year deal. The ex Bristol Rovers player who played 114 times for the club goes stright into the side for tonights friendly against H&W Welders.
The 33 year old defender will be a welcome addition to the side ahead of the Danske Bank Premiership season.
On signing Mark said "It is great to be involved with such a great club as Crusaders. They have shown over the last lot of years how good a team they are winning Premierships and other cups. I cannot wait to get involved with the lads and I hope I can bring more success to everyone here on the Shore Road."
Stephen Baxter is equally pleased to have the defender on board. "I am extremely pleased to get Mark to the Club. His pedigree is exactly what we need to join us and he will bring a vast amount of as we go into the new season".
Crusaders 3 H&W Welders 1
Crusaders tonight defeated H&W Welders 3-1 at a sun splashed Seaview in the latest pre season friendly. It was competitive against Gary Smyths side who have several ex Crusaders players in his ranks.
Crusaders signed Mark McChrystal before the game and he was immediately thrown into the team and had a solid performance. Crusaders started strongly and where rewarded with a goal from Jamie Glackin as he dinked the ball over Jason Caughwell who is on loan from Crusaders to the Welders as the big keeper advanced. The Welders hit back minutes later when Lucasz Gwiasda scored with a decent effort to equalise. Crusaders pushed forward and Mark McAllister hit the post with a header before Welders defender Craig McMillan made a great stop to deny Ryan Nimick his goal. As half time came up Crusaders where again denied with a goal line clearance and the half ended 1-1.
The second half was played again in a competitive manner with both teams opening up. Crusaders though had the edge and just after the hour David Cushley was played in past the defence and cooly slotted home in a one on one with Caughwell. It was David Cushley who kept at it and he unleashed a couple of big shots without troubling the keeper. Mark McChrystal was having a solid game in defence winning everything in the air and he seemed to settle very quickly into his defensive role. As the game played out Crusaders scored a third on 80 minutes. Jordan Forsythe showed a neat turn and let fly with a shot that flew home to make it 3-1. The Welders tried to put the Crusaders defence under pressure in the last 10 minutes but they dealt with everything thrown at them and the game ended 3-1 to Crusaders.
So another win and some good performances from the lads as their sharpness and fitness come back after the break. Next up is Institute on Saturday at Seaview with a 3pm kick off.
