...so, so many for me.
After all the local venues, Vale Park is probably the most visited for me.
I've seen us win, lose and draw, play fabulously and so poor. Night and Saturday kick offs.
Last time I went was Tom Pope hat trick night, the season before we went down. McGoo in charge? Alefe Santos came on for his league debut and looked amazing....unfortunately, we were 4 down by then! Apparently a certain John Ward was in the crowd watching - in his own personal time - little did we know he would soon be at the helm.
My first time was also a night match circa 1987/88. We were stood up on the side, undercover. Made all the noise (around 150 of us), think we are 1-1. It was season before our play off defeat against them when Robbie Earle tore us apart.
Many other memories including: The Packhorse pub. Glad all over sparks up every time they score. Talking to their more nicer fans about their dislike for Stoke City. Brilliant mini bus away day. Having a bit of 'afters' in car park after. ....and don't mention the scarf!
A tough match on Saturday. Maybe easier in ability compared to recent opponents, but vale will def give us something to think about.
Let's hope for a decent return, safe journey all and UptheGas!

Sometime around 2006, for my only visit. FA Cup game on a Tuesday night that ended 1-1. Dubbed 'the night we realised we could play' after so many years of abysmal football. Anyway gawd knows who scored for us but I believe Constantine equalised for them & we were greeted outside the away end after by a bunch of Yoof pelting us with rocks. Cheers lads!

Was it Port Vale we played on a Sunday? Jim Eadie injured, Mike Green in goal, let in a real softie.

At a Vale v Gas game,I was on Police duty and asked if I could patrol the pitch perimeter which was allowed surprisingly.Right in front of me Devon White committed a foul a good two yards outside the area and the Ref miles behind play awarded a penalty!!!!!!Couldn't believe it but as a serving Police Officer I had to restrain my emotions.Spoke to Devon subsequently but he was very laid back. Can't remember the score but when I was patrolling Burslem town centre prior to the game, The Gas team bus stopped me and Gerry Francis no less asked me for directions to the ground. Also remember some Gasheads being arrested there at another game and wearing 'T' shirts bearing the logo,'Tote-End' which bemused the locals.A late winner in that game had so incensed Brian Godfrey,he confronted the ref on leaving the pitch. Best memory across the city at Stoke was us winning 4-1 and a local yob threatening me when I went ballistic following Cureton's Hat - Trick. When I showed him my police warrant card and he apologised I was able to tell him that it was a pity we didn't play rubbish like Stoke every week!!!The following season we won at the Brittania again with former Stoke player Mark Walters scoring a late winner. Not that long afterwards that Stoke were in the Premier and we were in the basement!!!! Been up here since 1969 but the local clubs here aren't for me.

The only time that I have visited Vale Park we (predictably) lost. The game was the League Division Three Play-Offs Final 2nd leg, which was played on 3 June 1989 in front of a crowd in excess of 17,000. My only memories are of anti-climax, and what a huge arena they played in.

Went there early to mid seventies lost 3-1 i think, what i do remember is some of their lads were wearing red scarfs, outsde after realised they were Stoke fans there for the fun and games. Was at the playoff final,in the stand but to far away from our fans in the open end, bloody Robbie Earle. The 1-1 draw under Trolls and the chaos outside after trying to get back to the car.

Have been there countless times, but not for a very long time. I've even seen us win there when Jock scored from a free kick , and on another occasion was unable to hold back the tears in the play off defeat, However, my abiding memory of Vale Park, and anyone who was there will remember it, was their fans spilling onto the pitch (I think it was the game a couple of weeks before the play offs, and their win confirmed their place in them)and the blue invalid car trying to make a quick getaway knocking one of them over. If only camera phones were around at the time, it would be a youtube classic.

I remember the incident but not the venue...perils of alcohol!

About 1992 we went 3-0 down quite early including a goal where Brian Parkin came out of his area with the ball but the wind blew it away from him to a striker. We eventually pulled it back to 3-2.

Remember getting directions to the ground from a friendly local who was on his way to the game. We walked past a pub nearby the ground and I asked the bloke if he fancied a pint. Yes he said but best zip up your jacket mate and not show your Rovers shirt as there are a few nutters who go there on match days. You'll be ok though he reassured me as you are with me. ok I said zipping up my jacket and bowing to his greater knowledge of the locality. As we walked in we were met by a pub full of Gas singing Irene. Best zip up your jacket mate I told my newfound friend, you'll be fine though as you're with me!!

Hope Port Vale do it, have always half liked them being in the shadow of bigger neighbours but it would send Gillingham down. We'll see.

We'll see. not necessarilly, bury still in danger and shrewsbury too It would take a ridiculous run of results for it to be Shrewsbury! Hopefully Port Vale will go and not be seen again in a long time, I wasn't there this season but the trouble didn't surprise me as it's always seemed to me to be one of very few non-local away days in the lower leagues that you can feel comfortable in just about any pub, wearing your colours have having some good banter with the home fans.

We'll see. not necessarilly, bury still in danger and shrewsbury too Doubt if Shrewsbury will go, ten goal turnaround needed. Bury might but I bet Northampton and Justin Edinburgh won't do the Gills any favours. Still, PV need a win at Fleetwood which won't be easy. I quite like this looking at others at the bottom of the league instead of us. Long may it continue!!

I'd prefer Gillingham to stay up as they're local-ish to me although do have one of the worst terraces for away fans!

Hang on a mo. It's one of the few places where you can have a drink and banter yet you want them down and out, have I misread this ? Do not like either club. Always had to be on your toes and aware and certainly not places where I've known good form from home fans & this is long after I even got near to being a part of wanting any trouble. The OB at Shrewsbury have both beaten and mistreated several of my local friends at Shrewsbury and, Southampton in the 3-1 FA cup defeat apart, the most openly hostile policing I've ever seen. I'll leave the Southampton story for another thread

My first visit to Shrewsbury was this season and found their supporters, stewards and police top notch despite a lot of pissed up and provocative Gasheads in attendance.
