I think he is but he needs a break to recharge his batteries and someone else should be Captain. Cannot remember the last time he did not play. I post this as some supporters at Walsall suggested he is not good enough for league one. Of course it would be better also if he had an experienced and REGULAR partner playing next to him.

This is only his second full season at centreback, his first at this level, he's only just turned 22 and two seasons ago he was a fullback in non-league. I think we need more depth at the back, I think he could do with a little break, I think he needs a little bit of help but, he is good enough.

Not helped by not having a regular centre half partner alongside him and a keeper behind him lacking form. Thought he looked a very good player when paired with Clarke-Salter or is it Salter-Clarke, I never remember which way round it is.

I only saw a little bit of JCS (think that's the right way round!) and not convinced him and TL are a good partnership because I think JCS is a tad lightweight. Personally I think TL needs a strong, yet calm organiser around him (basically a slightly younger Macca). Hopefully Partington can be this. I think Hartley is a bit of a bully as well as being a car crash waiting to happen himself. We also need to stop crosses coming into the box and our midfield need to be better at reacting to second balls on the edge of the box. I think JCS could be a good option in defensive midfield when back and it would probably be good for his development too.

Good point KWG about stopping balls being crossed into the area. That would help all the defence and is a big reason we are conceding too many. I think he is good enough but agree with others, if we were in a position to give him a rest it would be a good tactic for a few weeks. But I suspect DC is a bit stubborn with certain players. UTG!

How are we going to stop crosses into the box from free kicks and corners? The Walsall goal was just a punt up field he misjudged, I can't see you can stop any team doing that. Although it's easy to say drop Locks but which other right footed CB can play, either Partington or Sweeney, assuming they're right footed, one of which you hoped would start at CH on Saturday, so we can't play two new comers plus a new goalie, particularly when Locks tends to play OK at the Mem. Captain wise only Lines appears an alternative, I'm not sure he's a better candidate TBH.

Tom clearly has shown himself aa a mature talented footballer who has progressed since his early league starts the season we went out of the FL.I agree being given the captains role he has struggled at times and for me needs a break. Partington and Sweeney may be given chances to stop the goals conceded from crosses. But for me both Leads and Brown have been disappointing this season. James Clarke may be a better option at right full back. Not offering the attacking threat of Leads but more solid in defence.

Lines or Browner are the obvious candidates in that they're experienced, likely to be playing every week and I imagine they're lively characters in the dressing room. I don't really see them as leaders on the pitch, they seem focused on their own game and don't see much encouraging others and organising from them. I'd give it to Ellis for banter.

He is being found out but that does not mean he cannot play at this level, he needs time. JCS is a decent player but at this level has a lot to learn, remember in his last game Charlton stuck five past us and he struggled coping with their centre forward who bullied him.

I think that centre halfs have been a bit of a problem for Rovers over the years, yes we can all name some good ones but generally its been a bit of a weak spot,I liked Parkin and McCaffery at this level in the mid 80s and Stuart Taylor, but now I think that Rovers could do with an older experienced player like John Terry to help the youngsters and be captain.

Lockyer needs a rest, I think we're all agreed on that. And when he gets back - hopefully he'll be able to forge a solid pairing with Partington or Sweeney. Given his fantastic season last year - it's hard to believe he won't make it in league 1. But so far - he hasn't. Agree that Leads and Browner need to get closer to wingers and stop crosses coming in. But we're getting done by big punts and little chips down the middle...

I know what you mean trymer but it's not been a problem for a few years. Even when we went out of the league Macca and Parkes were a good pair, as were most of our defence it was our forwards who couldn't hit a barn door that was the problem. It's only now that the CHs seem to be struggling against better quality. Now those you mentioned were a bit good. Am sure that TL will be mentioned with those very good CHs in years to come once he's got used to the better quality he's facing. UTG!

I thought that the problem with Parkes and Mcrystal was the hoof it down the pitch approach, the ball so often got picked up by the other team and they straight away had Rovers under pressure,I also thought that Mansell played so deep that it was nearly a 5 man defence, this is possibly as I only go to away games where you expect the away team to be under more pressure. I agree that TL could get used to playing at this level,I do think that the defence, goalkeeper and defensive midfielder need strengthening though.

I remember people saying this about Lines when he was first at the club, what a player he has turned out to be for us. Centre backs are not mature until they're 25 or 26 and he needs a break from being captain. Ollie Clark is turning out to be a great player, time that's all we need and good coaching. UTG

Yes they didn't play it out but they were both fairly old fashioned CH. But whenever Tom P tried to play football he always had a mistake in him (Eastleigh!! And Newport at home) I was always glad to see him launch it. And I agree that the defence needs strengthening but I guess Joe P and Ryan Sweeney is that happening. UTG!

No I was meaning from open play where our full backs sometimes give room to the wide men to get the crosses in. You are right, punts down the middle you can't stop. Mind you whilst you're right about corners and free kicks I find it amazing that overall some professional footballers find it hard to clear the first man from a free kick or corner, even in the PL. Surely Lee B is an alternative for captain although he may be too quiet as well. We don't have too many leaders on the pitch now Macca is going so without Lee Mansell or Milds haven't got too many gobby players! UTG!

Its not such a big deal about favoured foot in the central positions in my opinion its mostly full backs and some wingers that struggle on there wrong foot though of course there are lots of inverted wide players like bodin
