Did anyone think that Matty looked disinterested yesterday? Finished his goal well granted, but to me he seemed to be wondering about wandering...

He spent far too much time out on the flanks, but if there is a deal going through would he have been played, perhaps there was no option with Ellis out?
As usual, ifs and buts...

I wasn't there, but isn't that a natural result of playing 4-3-3? You have no wingers, so unless the full-backs are pushing up, or one of the midfield three runs the flank, the outlet wide is from the front line. Either side of a centre forward you'll have the other two strikers running the channels.

I think the announcement that easter is no longer part of first team plans suggests that Taylor is staying at least until the summer.

By the way, do you know why Ellis was out? There was quite a buzz going around the bar, and no one knew anything, not even the ITKs. The OS team news and report sometimes allude to the odd illness or injury, but wrote nothing. DC hides injuries, but it almost made some think Ellis was on his way, that's not credible to me.

With Ellis and Monty missing, not sure who else but may suggest illness!

Injured I believe. (Think it was KB said it during the commentary, or maybe I heard it Friday evening on G20man's show. Mind you could have imagined it ...) Listened again to DC pre-match to see if I heard it there. Seems not, but thought the interview was informative on other issues - www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p04nf54n - Starts 1:21

I didn't think there was much up with Taylor's performance, he worked as hard as usual, had two good chances and took one of them.

'got a bottom 8 budget'
6 players today have come through the youth system. Ryan Broom has been outstanding this season. Jamie at Borehamwood didn't play as much as he'd have liked
4 players who are going played only 19 games between them this system
12-16 weeks of the season left
sounds a bit more tetchy than he used to though

Mattys our best finisher and if we can have eg Rory doing the flanks and channels and have Matty infront of the goal area (most of the game),then maybe that's better. Not forgetting,Matty can cut in from out wide and shoot.
I did'nt read anything in Mattys play yesterday that made me think him disinterested.

This subject of Matty on his way because of lack of interest has been banded about before.
I think the front two were given poor service, so goes the idea they had poor games. Gaff and Taylor work ok together but the Walsall rearguard weren't having any of it!
If the op wasn't a credible GasHead, I would suspect a bit of sh*tstirring, but tbh no one knows where Matty will be in February..
I quite like his goal yesterday. Very underrated. He timed his jump impeccably. Yep, etheridge and defender mixed themselves up with indecisiveness, but fair play to the cross and headed goal in open play. Credit to his trade, he scores all sorts of goals and when he goes - one day - I hope we can remember him affectionately, if he departs the correct way.

Hamer stated yesterday that no interest had been received for Matty but that the Agent was working hard to earn his money....

Again, he could have gone for a higher salary on a free in the summer, and apparently nearly he did. This suggests to me that he's Rovers' for the whole season. Next season probably depend on where we finish.

Certainly wasn't the intention to stir and agree with others about how well Matty took his goal. It was just my opinion that he didn't look as motivated as usual, that's all. Of course I hope he stays!

It was only the briefest of mentions, but DC said "Jake [Clarke]-Salter is going to be a bit longer...". I had assumed - it seems wrongly - that Chelsea would have withdrawn him from his loan (through no fault of Rovers, just the bad luck of getting injured playing for us), but if he really is going to be available again then that will go a long way to providing the sort of choices at centre-half that will stand us in good stead for the rest of the season. Lockyer, Hartley, Sweeney, Partington, Clarke (J), Clarke-Salter, and the possible 1 other which DC also mentioned: not a bad group.
