Listening to Rovers Chairman Steve Hamer on Radio Bristol interview with Geoff20man about the UWE Stadium.
Sounds more complicated than BREXIT.
He confirmed funds in place to complete and planning permission expires in August so have to do this. Sale of Mem not essential to complete new Stadium.
If not agreed with UWE will have to find another site !
More positively new training ground looks more likely to start and finish sooner rather than later

Some positive noises. Hopefully the UWE deal can be thrashed out. If UWE really want it, lets see how much

Well good luck with that 'un then. I feel that if we don't get a deal with UWE that is acceptable to the owners/BoD of the club, then it ain't gonna happen. Your analogy with BREXIT is spot on by the way and I hope that this will turn out as well, but for what it's worth I remain optimistic.

I've lost track a bit, and this doesn't help.
Is the hold-up that 'we' want an amended land deal with UWE, and that hasn't been agreed?
If it's a funadmaentally different deal (sale v lease), that's surely (?) a straight yes / no principle that UWE would form a view on after a month or two's thought and discussion.
If that happened, and no-one's walked away, it seems like a 'yes'. So the delay must be in the detail (maybe including price). To last this long, they must be on the same page with the prospect of agreement, so why so long to settle? Or has it been relegated to a fall-back option and kept alive for that purpose while something else is pursued.
Did he give any hint as to what the issue with UWE is, and how close to a resolution they are? Or even that that's the preferred approach?
I'm confident they'll do the right thing, just curious: this re-basing with UWE process (whatever it is) sees to be taking longer than I'd expect. ...if that's the hold-up.
I'm a bit lost and just wondering.

Not only do the new board want to buy, rather than lease, they wanted a bigger plot to allow for more income generation as well as a renegotiation of car park income. All good from a Rovers perspective but probably not for UWE.

Suspect UWE may have thought "new owners with money" lets try and get loads of money for the freehold of the land of them. Hope its resolved but not confident.

The UWE is a deal that benefits both parties. We can't find a better potential site - and UWE won't find a buyer with the sort of funds that Wael Al-Qadi has access to. I would conclude they are haggling over price and/or detail and that a deal will go through eventually. We've waited so long - another few months just doesn't bother me.

I'm happy to wait, just a bit puzzled (after this long) at why, and slightly lost track of what we're waiting for. It seems quite a long time either to agree terms, or to conclude that we're not going to. Maybe I'm being naive.

It seems quite a long time either to agree terms, or to conclude that we're not going to. Maybe I'm being naive. From the outside, my guess is that there were 3 things; 1. Turn the shoebox out and get the scraps of paper in order. 2. Raise funds. 3. Negotiate with UWE based on what's best for investors (as mentioned above, rumours are that we are trying to buy the freehold not only of the site but also of some additional land, but it's probably all just beer talk). Negotiations are going to take an age because, I think, the people you meet with representing UWE aren't the decision makers. All guesswork pieced together from forums etc, and probably none of it correct.

Planning runs out in Jan 2018, but will take 3 months to get the AMP plannng sorted before work can start on site. I guess he ment that contracts have to be agreed by August to make the start date pre jan 2018

They can apply for an extension of the planning permission, like we did for the Mem redevelopment.

Wasn't there something about a car park being needed for (last) October?
It still strikes me as a long time to agree on whether to go forward or not, and I'd have thought both sides would have wanted to urinate or rise from the pôt, but heh.

Seems to me U.W.E. have been the stumbling block since new owners have taken over and moved the goalposts somewhat.

I suggest anyone who hasn't heard it to go and listen to it. Then after listening properly to every word, you will feel depressed about the future. I'm not sure anyone can continue to back the board with such enthusiasm when the last 10 months have been spent chatting to UWE, with another 7 months of chatting on the cards, and even then it might not happen.

Clear out of players, no real news on UWE is worrying. Is it because of a lack of funds or is it because we will be reinvesting into the team and the negotiations with UWE are very difficult because we are the ones who have changed the goal posts - perhaps UWE have too - who knows? Wasn't there supposed to have been a report given to the Board about the viability of UWE? What has happened with that? There are a lot of questions starting to rise with little sign of answers to so I for one am becoming worried about things both on and off the pitch. Hope this is entirely misplaced!

Should have looked for an alternative as soon as Higgs sold out. Doesn't take a genius to work out that the new regime would not accept the deal that Higgs had with the UWE. The title of which was "Desperate"

It is on the BBC Radio Bris iplayer for 30 days it was broadcast within first hour of todays programme. Disappointed GT did not repeat after the matches finished I think he was too engrossed with City fans asking for their manager's head
