I recently used 'showboating' about Chris Lines and Billy Bodin. How black are they? I said 'attitude' about Harrison AND O'toole, so no discrimination there.

Critcism is a funny old thing. Some this season who have playd their part in the past two seasons have been fairly and unfairly criticised for their peformances.
McChrystal, who basicslly hasnt played this season and told he can leave has escaped any criticisms by not being involved and.people want to knight him.
What would the feeling be inlf Macca had played 20 games and part of the defence that conceeded all the goals we have?

Fair point PP, I just don't think we would have conceded as many with Macca there and TL would have played better. Mind you we might have scored 5/6 goals less! UTG!

I don't think its rovers in particular, I think all English football is having a 'fickle moaner' problem. Its just we used to have a feeling we were a cut above the others in terms of support.
Despite always thinking they were sh$t and our way was better, I'm starting to warm to the continental Ultras style (altho drums are still a red line for me, and obvs the Seattle Sounders "Fight! And Win!"guy is a warning)
If a 100% loyal Ultras group started on the Blackthorn I would certainly stand with it, as long as it wasn't right wing political.
Better than listen to moaning all match, or to the bomber song or sing about a terrorist outfit that disbanded twenty years ago.
I'd suffer a bit of organising to sing "wings of a sparrow", have a chant for every star player, and some proper baiting of away fans, all in a positive atmosphere.

I've been watching the snooker this week and I think Steve Davis said that a true aficionado of snooker does not criticise any player as he (or she) is looking at all the nuances of the game. Now much as I like Steve Davis I think this is rather a purist approach and surely if you have watched a lot of snooker you can spot the odd pup and some players just aren't worth watching. It's like saying a true Gashead would never, in any circumstance, criticise a Rovers player. It's not how you criticise, but where, and also to keep within limits; putting up posters on the training ground or trying to board the team coach or spitting is plainly wrong.
I had to wonder why some 'supporters' were walking out of a game after about 20 min in a recent TV game, do they not think the board or manager are unaware of performances of the team/players? Mind you a certain Chairman recently believed a certain Manager when he said we did not need a new striker, result - relegation.

A player never seems to have a higher stock with fans when he's out of the team!
It's the possibility that he could be better than what we have that is tantalising. There are players are Rovers who never cracked the first team, never want on to do very much in the game yet many people swear blind were terrific players who were never given a fair chance.

Where I stand its Ellis that gets dogs abuse, by a handful, and they're old timers, but give a lot of loud stuff which the lad would definitely hear. Id boo a dreadful seeming players disinterested performance, but to individuals match day, no chance. On here to have a view I'm alright with that and doing that. The stick Ellis gets is racism pure and simple. There are a few from this area, I won't name them, they give him abuse whatever he does and on historical grounds not race. The fact the lad went to chasers and didn't buddy up with them was jumped upon. I feel Ellis is one of the players we have who could genuinely make it to the highest level if he can just be consistent and getting dogs abuse is not going to help him or us. It's not just racism, not with the unforgiving ones in Kingswood

Hi Steve Been a long time my friend (I rarely read/post and ever more rarely watch rovers), I hope things are good Personally I've never been particularly impressed with Puddy (from the bits I've seen), but he has played a big enough part in our rise back up to where we belong. Don't think it's ever fair to be personal about players (though I've probably said a few unfair things before which I'd probably cringe at now) and especially not a guy who played his part, however small - remember Sean Rigg? - in bring some pride back to the football club. Everyone else here is better placed to judged our current crop of players than I am, but my two penneth and good to 'see' you. Duncan (stoner/dropa)

I disagree, and so do Jon Parkin and Brian Jensen. It's a term reserved for fat lads and black footballers. Perhaps but anyone who thinks a professional footballer is fat is a little misguided I reckon. Brian Jensen was a cult hero at Burnley, I imagine he was not particularly worried about the beast chant. Context tends to put a different perspective.

I will give my opinion and sometimes be critical but NEVER EVER on a match day. I always give the team my full support and I think anyone who abuses our own players while at a game needs to take a good look at themselves. I hear that some knuckle dragging idiot or,idiots took it upon themselves to spit at Will Puddy at our last game. I think ANY so called fan who thinks this is ok should be banned for life. It's disgusting and was something we had the moral high ground on, over them lot down the road up until this. I would hope the club are doing the utmost to identify those responsible. It's disgusting and has no place at any sport. I was absolutely gutted when I heard about this VERY good line in the sand there Jules. I like that - never ever on a match day. Very wise.

Did you not see O'Toole wandering around and obviously not giving everything he could for the cause? Loved the radio interview with Sinclair last year, modest, well spoken and understood that it's a privilege to represent supporters' teams on their behalf, when a waster like O'Toole is given a shirt and abuses that privilege he deserves to be told so. Wouldn't spit at him or anyone else though, that's just plain nasty.

but Ellis goes up in my estimation in light of kP's story
I still think Ellis has potential. He's paying his way at the moment and, at 22, has time to fulfil things. Male brains develop slowly and all that

also, I can see where some of the un-biased criticism comes from - he exploded into the team at the end of his debut season, and then didn't really follow it up when football started again. And then DC dropped him due to attitude and stuff
that's a pretty standard basis for crowd criticism
