Six members of the Bristol Rovers squad have today been told that they are not in the club’s plans for the future.
Manager Darrell Clarke said; “Mark McChrystal, Liam Lawrence, Jermaine Easter, Will Puddy, Tyler Lyttle and Jay Malpas are the players involved and I have told them that they will no longer be considered for selection for the first team.
“It was a tough decision to make, but by making it now it gives these players, who remain under contract with Bristol Rovers, the opportunity to find themselves a new club.”
Gutted about Macca, the most decorated captain in Rovers history.

Always sad, but clearly building for next season

Mac has been great for Rovers.Jermaine worked hard and had his moments.I'm relieved Will Puddy will not be about for next season, but fair play to the bloke, always tried his best and palyed a part in getting us back in the FL.

Interesting they will no longer be considered for selection. Does that Mean Hodges on the bench and/or another keeper/Mildenhall coming back

A bit surprised about Easter to be honest, he's been working hard. But no complaints, it's tough for Macca too but the list makes sense

I thought Easter was worth keeping, experienced and creative number 10 option. I can understand Macca going with a new young signing coming in as CB backup, but I think it's more than a little dangerous to let Puddy go when Mildenhall still isn't fit and we're still in the habit of rotating loan keepers as our number 1. Sad to see two youth prospects go as well, but I suppose it's thinning the academy so only the best get a chance (Broom, Lucas, etc). I trust that DC knows what he's doing.

Sad for Macca too...proper lower league defender who did a cracking job for us and always gave his all. Any divvy 2 club should snap him up. I wish them all well

We have signed a keeper from QPR until the end of the season. 22 years old and it's on the twitter page. Joe Lumley. Looks like he will be our number 1 for the time being. i am mostly surprised about Easter as his first touch is good and he has certainly given us another option that ended Ina couple of goals but DC knows who will be coming and going ( I guess) and so he is the guy who we must trust to get us pushing on. I am glad I am not a manager, must be bloody difficult to tell any player their time is up but the, he told Mildenhall the same and look what happened there.

Sad to see the departure of McChrystal and Easter.
With Gosling & Roos also gone - that's 8. Plus Hartley injured. The squad is looking thin. Looking forward to seeing the replacements.
Following Lumley and Partington, do they ALL need to be called Joe? Possibilities might include: - Jacobsen - Kuffour (perhaps not) - Ledley - Allen - HART ....

I think that the retained players list at the end of the season will be interesting, and probably quite short.

do we take it that if any of these find new clubs, and therefore free up some payroll, Darrell might have a bit more for either loans of quickly-arranged permies - I'm thinking maybe not as he 'had budget' already?

With two centre backs injured will we have enough players to put out on a Saturday if you include seven subs ? What about injuries ? Is anyone else coming in ?

If these players do not find clubs they would still be part of the squad, and if injuries, suspensions and loss of form affect DC's first choice players (whoever they may be) then they could still feature, it's happened before.

Think it also leaves us with little or no back up at centrehalf. Of course still time left to bring in a goalie or centreback

Not a bad idea to raise the bar a notch or two at this stage. There can't be any complaints because they've all been thanked for helping to get us back to League 1, which I thought was a nice gesture.

Fair enough, Macca unlucky great pro and you know he wont let you down within his ability, Easter I thought was going to be ok when he looked sharp the end of last season, but his hunger may be questioned. I watched Jay Malpas with some interest, I thought he would make a decent player, but his injury jinx has put pay to that. The other 3 id say is a fairly easy call, I was at Orient. I would poss add 1 or 2 more, for another time. Good luck to all of them.

I'd like to add to what's already been put and say every one of those players are heroes to help get us where we are today. To a greater or lesser extent.
Good luck with the rest of their careers.
Our home turf should always be welcoming in the future should they return, and above all, thankyou for helping us get our Rovers back!

Fair enough I suppose but I am surprised more by the timing. Without Hartley and Salter-Clarke, Macca may well be needed and Easter as well. So when they are picked and playing and we need the points I hope they will be motivated to do what they've always done. I have no doubt Macca will as he always does but ..... the timing just seems odd. Do it at the beginning of the window to move them on or free up some money or do it 2/3 matches from the end when we don't have anything to play for but now? Very strange imo. Good luck to all of them I hope they get what they want, esp Macca. UTG!
ps I genuinely feel a bit sad about Macca no being here in the future. Stupid I know.
edit: sorry realised they will not be picked from statement. Actually, even stranger esp Macca at CH.
