I'd be busting a bollock to come out with some time scales or more details about how good this ground is going to be, but no, silence, and it's telling me they've got nothing good to tell us...... Would it be too cynical of me to suggest they are saving the good news and stadium fanfare to be announced at the 'meeting' with SC fans. Would be an excellent time to release good news if they wanted to defuse that particular timebomb

Just a thought: could you get your local paper to ring Sainsbury to confirm they are going ahead with the project? I am not suggesting it will help too much because they won't tell the Southend paper but that, of course, is a separate but football related project.

I am not suggesting it will help too much because they won't tell the Southend paper but that, of course, is a separate but football related project. Because our local paper no longer employs journalists. They cut and paste from other news websites and run full page adverts dressed up as (or most of the time not even that) news items.
As far as actual investigative journalism goes, I don't think it exists actually exists any more at a local level. Perhaps it is different in Lincoln?

No it isn't any better in Lincoln. I just thought you might be luckier. They are probably owned by the same group. The Express and Star are still pretty good in Wolverhampton but that doesn't help either of us.

I've never really liked those messages when someone says the they know someone who knows something... but then doesn't like to say anything.
Well, I don't know anything to be honest though I did speak to a friend of mine (whom I had not seen in a while) last weekend - this guy was involved with the planning process on behalf of Sainsbury's.
I would say that my mate does know more than he was prepared to let on and I asked him what his feelings were (ie when Sainsburys will conclude their part) and his exact response was that he was "worried". His gut feeling was that they will pull out, though of course that may simply be his personal feelings and not necessarily based on anything concrete. He mentioned that Sainsbury's strategy seems to be changing and that they have pulled out of a recent project and are stalling elsewhere.

my understanding was that contracts have been signed and they can't back out now?

my understanding was that contracts have been signed and they can't back out now? What was this understanding based on?
The club have said nothing of the sort.

my understanding was that contracts have been signed and they can't back out now? There must be some kind of contract in place as otherwise either Sainsbury's or Rovers could walk away from the deal leaving the other side with £m's of costs o/s.

Yeah, BRFC would have been nuts to go into this if Sainsbury's were able to cut and run at a moment's notice. Both sides of the deal should have been water-tight in order that they could commit significant resources to the project without risk of the other side just changing their mind. Not saying BRFC didn't do this. Just saying they would have been nuts if they had.

Maybe Sainsbury's can pull-out but would have to pay a compensation fee (A third of what they would have paid for arguments sake)

According to a post made just over an hour a go on OTIB, the sainsburys deal is dead, and there will be no UWE Stadium. Press release later this week.

These rumours will only grow and gain momentum as long as the Board hide behind their wall of silence
