In today's Bristol Sunday Independent (£1!) there is an excellent article by Richard Latham (page 17) entitled ' Rovers Fans Are Waiting For Closure'
The focus is the club's unwillingness/failure to communicate with fans since the end of the season.

Sat on a sunbed in sunnier climes reading the new forum, just registered. Richard Latham is an excellent journalist, does anyone have a link?

Like many papers these days you have to subscribe: www.sundayindependent.co.ukBut it looks as if you can 'buy' a single copy at the cover price of £1.

Is it quite a scathing article?

Excerpt....................
'Maybe it was time for the club to stop taking it (fans' loyalty) for granted and actually set about earning the backing they are going to need more than ever next season'

Shame Richard is freelance, would be great to have him as the BEP BRFC reporter. Quality Journo who asks good questions.

Precisely why he will never work for the BEP.

Why isn't the Evening Post asking the same questions?

I worked for the Bristol Evening Post at the same time as Richard Latham, quite a few years ago now. At the time he was the reporter with responsibility for covering anything to do with B*FC, and not very well disposed towards anything connected with BRFC . . . or its supporters.
He wasn't a patch on his predecessors Peter Godsiff and Robin Perry though, in my own opinion of course.

When he first started writing for the Indy he couldn't do an article on us without mentioning his beloved BCFC1982 . He has got better lately, probably because we are so far behind his club he doesn't feel the need to put us down anymore. It really grates me though to see his pen pic on OUR column with a background of red seats behind him. I wonder where that photo was taken?

I've spoken to hom a few times and he seems well disposed towards us. Perhaps mellowed with age? His writing though is far superior to that of many of his contemporaries.

I may be wrong , but I was once told that Richard Lathem was a BCFC season-ticket holder in his youth.

Very knowledgeable, yet unassuming.

Blimey Colyton you’ve dragged this old thread up from the past. Loved Robin Perry and Peter Godsiff. I always think about Richard Latham as writing about Somerset CCC and very often the connections between Somerset and BCFC are stronger than Rovers connections. Me being part of a smaller minority who does Rovers and Somerset. UTG!
