I read today that championship acadamy sides will replace the sides that have turned down an invite .... Please someone tell me the 82ers aren't likely to get an invite ... The thought of playing their kids is a joke .. a very unfunny one ... Of the teams invited I assume we will play Swansea or Southampton u21's and two from Plymouth , Exeter , Yeovil , Cheltenham and Newport ? Due to the regional aspect of the draw

Due to the regional aspect of the draw Unfortunately I think it is likely but I would hope that we wouldn't put out our best side if this was to happen. It really does need a boycott but I've already said my bit on that

When the final comes up with two U21 sides playing each other, the EFL will still claim they are doing their part to develop the England team, even if it's Stoke U21 v Norwich U21.

Serious question (tin hat on):
Would anyone go to watch our kids play in cup?
I know it's a different competition, but I've supported youth cup games and reserve matches for years. Would anyone toddle along to watch our kids in action up Mem for a few quid v Exeter, say?

We played @rsenal u21 in a friendly, pre season last year.
Surely the answer is set up an u21 trophy for any team that wants to join, and leave the mickey mouse cup as it is?

You will have a chance in the EFL Trophy to a certain degree, as I understand it L1 and L2 teams must field at least 6 U21s.

The reserve teams have to field 6 U21s, the proper teams have to field 5 first teamers (so they could field 11). None of which bothers me, because I won't be watching a second of it.

Football League's chairman has denied that the refusal of top Premier League clubs to play in the EFL Trophy is a "failure" for the controversial competition.
Ian Lenegan told a fans' conference that the revamped cup, which will include Carlisle United, now has the agreement of 16 academy teams to take part.
Changes to the former Johnstone's Paint Trophy have caused huge debate with some fans threatening to boycott matches as top-flight teams are introduced.
Major clubs like Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea are set to decline invitations to enter teams from their category one academies.
Others such as Middlesbrough and Everton have confirmed that they will be taking part.
But the refusal of some of the country's biggest clubs has led the EFL to extend invitations to more Championship clubs.
The changes are intended to "reinvigorate" the competition but many fans have hit out at the changes to what has traditionally been a lower-league cup competition with the eventual prize of a Wembley final.
According to the Against League Three campaign, Lenegan told the Supporters Summit at Wembley - hosted by the Football Supporters Federation and Supporters Direct - that "a degree of nervousness" will be felt if two academy teams make it to the final.
But the former Oxford director insisted the changes were not the "thin end of the wedge" that would eventually lead to B teams entering the league pyramid.
Lenegan also reportedly told the meeting that 16 invited teams have now been confirmed. They are expected to be announced soon.

Yes, I am, the rules state that EFL teams must have 5 'first team' players, that's no doubt to prevent weakened sides but there is no definition of a first team player. Perhaps I should have written "may see 6 U21s" depending on how seriously BRFC takes the competition. It's naughty that the so called U21 sides are not all U21, we could see a few seniors coming back from injury in them (though that may boost attendances) along with 'fringe players'.

The EFL is doing really well imo on behalf of the Premier League .....
...the latter will soon have their own Premier League Cup ...we will have division made up of second string Premier League sides ...the FA Cup will all but disappear - far too many premier clubs consider this to be of nuisance hence weakened sides entered ...this whole farce has nothing to do with trying to improve the strength of the England side or if this is the belief then they have as much idea of running football as the F A does!

There won't be a division of B teams, football league clubs voted no and it wasn't even close! No football league clubs want that. This is different. Trying to revamp a s**t trophy, it might work, it might not, but it's a one year trial so not the end of the world.

They wouldn't want their own PL cup if they struggle with the FA and League Cups for the same reasons
The thing with the FA Cup and League Cup is that the middling and lower PL sides don’t always want to take it seriously because of the money, more specificly the loss of it should they go down and now that pot is bigger than ever before
Thinking about it I would scrap the FL Trophy it’s p*ss poorly supported anyway and remove the PL clubs from the League Cup and if they wanted to do a group stage fine do. The FA and PL could than stick the UEFA cup place on the Premier League placing
