I am glad MT is staying. I wonder what sort of mega-bucks deal he turned down to continue playing for the Gas? A cynic might suggest a marginal amount more at another Div 3 Club wasn't enough to persuade him to go.

I used to trust Chewbacca's word. I am thrilled to no longer be able to trust him

2 year deal with a buy out clause So if he does the business and we have occasion to sing "Taylor's on fire...your defence is terrified" often enough then he will get his ambition fulfilled and DC will have a war chest to to use to find someone to replace him. Fair on both parties.

Of course, there is always the possibility Matty could have a mediocre season, and be one of the squad who plays a role in us going up again. Was always a big gamble for him to go to another club where he could have been a bit part player under a different manager. A great deal for all concerned.

Excellent news. He is a MASSIVELY improved player than the one that played in the conference, and I hope people can finally get their heads around that. His finishing rate is now excellent, and I don't think League 1 defenders will be any impossibly big step up for him. His game isn't based on pace, or bullying the weak link in the defence, he's great in the air, good touch - whats not to like? ;-)
There is every chance he will keep his confidence this year and I really hope he does well. If he does very well, then he's gifted us a nice £1million payout transfer fee. Legend.

I'm delighted Taylor signed. I know some of us were not impressed by the time taken. I know nobody's bigger than the club. I know where Taylor's doubters are coming from. But signing any new goalscorer is always a gamble. Any proven goalscorer elsewhere has proved they can score where they are. So much is spent on strikers from the Premier division down, who often fail to deliver comparable goals for their new teams. Taylor is a proven goalscorer in this team. It'll be harder to score against third division defences. But at least we know Taylor fits into our team. And he scored a lot of goals in a fantastic promotion, which we won't forget. Again: delighted.

Why did Oxford think for one minute they were a bigger draw for him. I know he's from there but if he's ambitious then he wouldn't go there. For Appleton to come out and say they 'shook on a deal' is sour grapes and shows little class. But to be fair he said Oxford were the best team in league 2 last season. Amateur. Well done MT good decision.

To me he was always the player I was most concerned about our ability to retain
Not just because of his goals and assists but his workrate, his vision on and off the ball and the link play to bring others into the game
Would be the first player on the team sheet for me

Fantastic news. His football brain, his first touch, his ability in the air and over the last 18 months his match winning ability as a goalscorer meant he would have been a huge loss. Where we are it in terms of being sensible and not OTT in the transfer market meant that any replacement would not have been anywhere near the standard of Matty Taylor. He has been a key member of this legendary group DC has created over the last 2 seasons, another player along with the rest who is an honest hardworking pro, something that was lacking before change started 2 summers ago. Two or maybe three more new signings, and it's been a very good summer.

Great news, sure he will have a good season and somebody will have to pay a proper fee for his services, sometime in the future, nearer or longer, thanks Matty for the loyalty, even with a bargained contract, which was deserved.

What will continue to bother me is why he didn't do this earlier. It sounds like Poxford had expected to have him sign and he then turned them down. He could have signed earlier, like Sir Rickie, knowing he would go and then at least knowing we would benefit from it. Dont get me wrong, happy he signed but it raises more questions for me anyway. I suspect he overplayed his hand and may look to produce the good and go in January. His statement seems to indicate that in saying that he could walk away with his head held high.

If he does go in January it would be good for both parties because he would have scored goals in League 1 to attract bids, so god fr is and good for him. We get money, when he could easily have gone elsewhere now for nothing, and he gets his desire move to a Championship (presumably) club. Happy days for both. Ideally he doesn't score too many before the transfer window closes t attract bigger or higher clubs and then goes mad from Feb until the next of the season for our end of season charge to the play offs and then we win at Wembley. :-)

Great news, not in the slightest bit bothered he took his time to weigh up his options like a sensible young man. Hope he can produce what he did last season, if he does all the better for club & player.
This is a really great bit of work by DC & Hamer, a replacement at the same standard would have been very difficult to find and very expensive.

There are two broad mindsets that could kick in here. Either he's slightly disappointed to be here, becomes a bit semi-detached, and focuses elsewhere; or he throws himself fully behind his decision and the rest of the squad are fully on board with it. His statement, plus that I think he's one of the brighter bulbs in the profession, hints at the latter, but I guess only tell will tell. From me, early signing would have been no doubts; later signing, he deserves the benefit of the doubt, but I don't think it's cut and dried and proven as 'a good thing'.
