promotion would be a disaster Yeah, the last two promotions ruined everything. not at all,,just dont think the infra structure is in place for another promotion in the unlikely event that it happened

What's the worst that can happen if we go up? We go back down again!
I'll be fairly delighted if we stay up this season.

surely promotion is not wanted this season? any new ground wouldnt be ready and the mem would need to be all seater resulting in a 7,000 capacity and many fans lost forever as they couldnt watch there team in the championship. thoughts anyone? Time to change your username to "Mr Grey-and-Miserable Sky" is what I think. Last year I expected mid-table but enjoyed every second of it. This year I expect mid-table but will enjoy it whatever happens. Tree us no reason at all why we can't do it again. Burton were in exactly the same position as us this time last year.

To bang a drum, the board has never suggested they will flash the cash. They have not even said they have unlimited funds.
Would suggest you stop looking to deep for conspiracy theories, it evolution not revolution!

A third promotion on the spin would be a lot of things, 'disaster' probably not in the first 300 ways I'd describe it

not at all,,just dont think the infra structure is in place for another promotion in the unlikely event that it happened I do agree, and I was mainly playing for laughs. We don't really have the infrastructure for the third, let alone 'all seater' second, division. Promotion to the second would mean that soon we would need the stadium we already really want. That would force the stadium issue a bit. Not necessarily a bad thing. Third successive promotion would be astonishing; I think we'll need to improve significantly for any top-half finish. In the entirely probable event we're not promoted, WAQ & SH will need to address the stadium and infrastructure. In the amazing and unlikely event of a promotion challenge, the same is true but the urgency even greater. This is not something I'm worried about. At least we have a Chairman and President who could respond so now.

I would be happy to stabilise the team around mid table, a 3rd round match v a big prem team in the fa & league cups and a long run in the paint trophy...not too much to ask for, but would be a very good season imo.

I've just got back from a holiday, thank god for people like you, not a personal attack, just great to read such a pessimistic view. Can't believe we would want to keep progressing, let's forget that, and enjoy wallowing and continue to be greatful for snippets of anything positive. Me, I love what has happened since the darkest times, and I reckon I'd prefer to cope with the successes and see where the ride goes. Taylor signs, I'm a very happy optimistic bunny, champions this year will sit just fine with me!

Leave it out John lol I think that if we don't get 3-4 more players in and I mean proven players, I can see this season being a struggle. This squad has massively overachieved to get to this point but there is a big difference in league 1. Before anyone starts about me being negative please take a good look at what we have. It looks like our top scorer will be gone and we have brought in 2 players who are either not on form or haven't played league 1 for awhile. Having said this, DC has had me eating my own words more times than I care to admit & I really hope I am wrong. I don't think we need worry about promotion just now. I believe mid table would be overachieving once again. UTG I think wanting promotion has to be a prerequisite from all players and I don't think we would lose fans forever. We are a very tolerant bunch by and large. We may moan on here but I don't know anyone personally who moans on a match day. We had an higher average attendance when we were relegated and with NH at the helm. If we did by some chance get promoted then I think we would be understanding. No team overachieves in football when it comes to promotion. If you achieved it, you deserved and warranted it. Football is starting to wake up to team ethic and spirit and our lads have it by the shed load.

I think there is a leap from 2nd to first division the gulf is not as big as first to championship though. Leicester city, Wales, Iceland have all taught us that team spirit and the sum of the whole, rather than a collection of individual stars, is a very viable option. We have a good manager and an indominatable spirit , a healthy balance sheet and a returning fan base of PROUD fans. I make no predictions but equally another successful year would not be a surprise. If we could get promotion I would grasp it with both hands.
Keeping Taylor swings the pendulum for me from mid table to top 10............. Cobblers, I made a prediction.

You can't pick and choose when you want promotion, if it looks like a possibility dc will want to go for it, he didn't stay for mid table mediocrity. If we were ready for it at twerton we'll be ready for it at the mem. As Hamer says, put another sticking plaster on it! 12k sell outs every week whilst we wait for uwe.

its interesting that oxford have lost 2 of there best players, equivalent to taylor and bodin going,so i think a big plus has been keeping our best players almost certainly certainly because of the owner. i created a thread before last season "we will get promoted" starting to be tempted again now with all this positivity?

I agree, because Oxford have lost two players that definitely means we will get promoted, and it will be a disaster. Or something.

A couple of points. In retaining Matty Taylor, this is the first time I can recall, that we have held on to a 'star striker'. The previous boards couldn't wait to cash in on any asset we had. Also, one word. MOMENTUM. We've got it. Play offs for me.
