surely promotion is not wanted this season? any new ground wouldnt be ready and the mem would need to be all seater resulting in a 7,000 capacity and many fans lost forever as they couldnt watch there team in the championship. thoughts anyone?

Leave it out John lol
I think that if we don't get 3-4 more players in and I mean proven players, I can see this season being a struggle. This squad has massively overachieved to get to this point but there is a big difference in league 1. Before anyone starts about me being negative please take a good look at what we have. It looks like our top scorer will be gone and we have brought in 2 players who are either not on form or haven't played league 1 for awhile. Having said this, DC has had me eating my own words more times than I care to admit & I really hope I am wrong. I don't think we need worry about promotion just now. I believe mid table would be overachieving once again. UTG
I think wanting promotion has to be a prerequisite from all players and I don't think we would lose fans forever. We are a very tolerant bunch by and large. We may moan on here but I don't know anyone personally who moans on a match day. We had an higher average attendance when we were relegated and with NH at the helm. If we did by some chance get promoted then I think we would be understanding.

You cant choose when you want promotion you have got to take the opportunity when it arises.

i cant believe that there wouldn't be some allowance say a couple of seasons to allow you to alter your stadium to make it all seater, i'm guessing that Burton aren't being forced to make their ground all seater before the season starts?

Relax, Watola's gone, we don't make things up on the run, usually after the event, any more.
There will be a plan in place for all 3 possible outcomes to the season.

You get a grace period of two seasons to go all seater if you get promoted to the championship.

Easy OP, going by the friendlies ive seen and last season, we are still short of league 1 quality players Easy OP, going by the friendlies ive seen and last season, we are still short of league 2 quality players I was thinking the same this time last summer. My motto is if Burton can do it with that squad and fanbase, then anyone can do it. Although i'll happily go on record now to say a mid-table finish would be excellent, and any cup runs or times we might be in and around the play-offs a nice bonus.

Based on last night, I think we'd struggle in the Southern League this season

Inflammatory op!
Made I larf.
....and I went like sheep to Eastville, Ashton, Twerton, Mem to watch my beloved, doomed home team win every time and hope we would make highest football we could achieve.
Out of interest, does anyone remember our highest ever league position?
....and how did it feel?!

The highest I remember was early in the 75-76 season (the one when City made it to the top flight), where City were second and we were fourth. This allowed the Sunday People sports pages to produce the headline, "What a tantalising pair of Bristols". As you can see, the impact of such high quality journalism made a lasting impact on me.

Fair question. But good point about Burton. Also, Bournemouth are getting crowds of 11,000 in the prem. They wouldn't have said no either.

Aim for the sky, I doubt we will be in contention but if we went up all well and good, more money.
I always found the rumour in the nearly season that the board deliberately didn't support Holloway buying players to cement promotion slightly comical.

I will be over the moon, beyond merely impressed and optimistic, if we finish mid-table. The Conference season is still fresh in my mind, we've exceeded expectations and done a superb job getting to League One. This is a vital season to steady the ship, build depth (and an academy and stadium!) and not be tentative about aiming for solid mid-table safety. We need to do that on the pitch, to lay the foundations for some crucial projects off the pitch getting into gear and paving the way for a bright future. We can't shoot for the moon yet. We need to put the rocket together and fill it with homebrew cider first.

With our existing squad I think we will be in for a much tougher season than many are expecting, a mid-table finish would be a fantastic achievement as things stand.

Relegation would be a bigger disaster.
