As much as I'm hoping our latest two signings turn out to be superb additions to our team, I was kind of thinking in this new era of ownership we would be spending some real cash on transfers this summer. If the owners are willing to pay 100k towards an end of season jolly then surely DC will get at least 5 times that as a transfer kitty?? Any others out there feel deflated or am I worrying too much and all will be fine. Think it was easily known that Nelson from Plymouth was the CH with the most potential, in my opinion it was that type of player we should be trying to sign and not your bog standard stopper.

To answer your question you're worrying too much. We've all seen how DC works, he gets his squad full of people he knows or trusts. I am sure he will get some more players but he's not going to get big names on big salaries just because they or the fans think they are "big". I thought and still think we may get some younger players on the way up from leagues below us. Don't worry, I am sure we will be fine. The last 3/4 days has seen DC at work, signing 2 new players with a good pedigree who will probably go straight in team and re-signing 3/4 players who are tried and trusted. UTG!

Just, chill. It's you can't do that, be cool.
Why be impatient when it's easier to be patient?

Still not touched on the subject of money spent tho. Would you prefer a free holiday for players and 100k midfielder or 100k holiday and a free transfer

1. Not that simple, 100k you say but then there are all the fees and wages etc! 2. It has never been suggested they have money to splash, as it's been said, evolution not revolution?

Wael has stated many times that he intends to build a sustainable model of business within the club instead of just chucking money whenever he feels like.
DC looks for players he can trust and "control"; if we start to sign too many big names, it can mess up both the team chemistry/morale and DC's authority as a young, fairly new-to-the-game manager.
Add two and two together and that's why we're keeping our feet firmly on the ground.

Would you prefer a free holiday for players and 100k midfielder or 100k holiday and a free transfer i thought the holiday was a fantastic reward and the extra bonding it generated was priceless as for spending 100.000 on a player its the wages per week that are the burden

I live in Torquay and have asked two ST holders of Plymouth what they think of Hartley and both responses were slow, ponderous but scores a few goals!! Nelson and Carey will both play a higher standard of football one would think. Hopefully in a blue and white shirt.

I wasn't expecting, or hoping, for the new owners to splash the cash. Football seems to have got itself into a rut that whereby there are Premier League players, Championship players, League One players and League Two players,. all of whom swap round between the various teams in 'their' division. I would much rather a team be gradually built up, and still believe players from the lower divisions are capable of making the steps up as they progress.

Think it was easily known that Nelson from Plymouth was the CH with the most potential, in my opinion it was that type of player we should be trying to sign and not your bog standard stopper. Think it is actually the nature of the football job market to be honest. Players who have let their contracts run down (or have had their contracts run down by their clubs) are keen to tie up their futures before the start of July. Negotiations only involve the player and prospective employers (which may or may not include his current club) but no club to club talks. Hence these deals are easier to get done now for both player and club. So this is the "feeding frenzy" on the freely available talent. I don't doubt that some "registering of interest" has been made between clubs where securing a talented asset may require a fee but those deals require three way negotiations: two clubs and the player and his agent. This is the holiday season for footballers and club officials so getting all the representatives authorised to negotiate a decision round the table at this time may not be so easy, whilst there is no desperation on the players behalf to do a quick deal as he is still under contract in July. So the deals that are getting done now involving transfer fees are likely to be those where the buyer is in fear of being gazumped, I expect more deals involving fees to be concluded in July and August. That is not to say I necessarily think we are likely to splash the cash though. We have to work out where the money should be best spent to serve the club as a whole and if we find DC gets enough quality through the door without resorting to a transfer kitty he may indicate to Wael and SH that they can redirect the funds to another part of the business....at least until January.

I don't know the ins and outs of our finances but there is also the issue of FFP to consider.

I would have preferred to have signed Nelson, however, he is quick but not that good in the air. Lockyer and Hartley would be a better pairing. One good in the air and more experienced and one young and quick. Lockyer and Nelson together would struggle against a tall physical striker. Dc can get the best out of players. Willing to give him a try. Steve Elliot was never the quickest, but he was a good player.
