I'm struggling to think who would vote for this.
Gas (or anyone) v Swansea U21s is distasteful, but there's worse:
Port Vale v Stoke U21s (tactless) Millwall v Palace U21s (riot) Charlton v Palace U21s (rude) Bolton v Man U U21s (rubbing their nose in it).
Then again, is it still the case that Championship clubs get hugely more voting power than the rest? Have they nodded this through? Many of them (with various degrees of delusion) think they're in the Departure Lounge for the Premiership. Let's offer Cardiff our place, and they can play Swansea U21s, if they think it's such a good idea.

And another thing....
When / if we're expected to play Swansea U21s, please can we field an U21 side?
Thanks Wael.

150 years of football in this country and now we get to this. we cannot let the profit interest of the few overcome the many

What a bloody stupid idea. "They" surely can`t think that this is in footballs best interests?

What a bloody stupid idea. "They" surely can`t think that this is in footballs best interests? I dont agree with it but can.see why they are trialing it Its a competition that is poorly supported. In recent years they put in rules to make sure you just didnt put the kids out in it To the FL clubs they might see it as worth an experiment that might generate interest in the competition and it also benefits the PL teams Hopefully no one goes to these games and it would be good to see the 16 games in the first set of fixtures playes inf ront of even lower crowds than normal (some wilk go whatever)

I guess that something that might actually work - like stopping the big clubs stockpiling young english players - will never happen.

My first thought was to not bother to go to any of the games in this competition in protest.
I'm now wondering if an alternative would be to only attend matches against clubs we would have played in the tournament anyway, and boycott the ones against the U21 sides. That would distinguish between the two and demonstrate what the fans want to see.

That would distinguish between the two and demonstrate what the fans want to see. I won't be attending any of the games, for two reasons. 1. Any boycott has to have the biggest impact possible. They won't just be hit for the extra game, they will be hit for all of the games that I usually would of considered attending. 2. The competition has completely lost its attractiveness. I would have no interest in seeing us in the final against a B team.

Madness. There's no way that Rovers would ever put out a youth or second string side against other club's first team in a competition, that would be an insult.

Where would the U21 team play home games, I thought Chelsea played at Aldershot so 500 would be a good attendance.
Also how are the rules worded so that one team can play U21 players but if the other team selected their U21 team they would be fined?
Do we have any experience with FL laws? Okay don't answer that one.

There is already an U21 cup competition and the later stages are televised. There is the Barclays U21 league and also the UEFA leagues with Man City playing in the U19s against the likes of Juventus and they also enter two cups which are the equivalent of our Gloucester Cup. Is there a need for more?
The cup when it started promised lower league sides a day out at Wembley, that will probably go, we've all seen what happens when a 'reserve' side gets a sniff of any final the big guns are brought in. If this cup has two U21 sides in the final it will have destroyed its aims.
I'm hissed off.

If the FA wanted to strenghen the overall standard (and opportunity) of English players then they'd should restrict the ability of Premiership clubs from stocking English players. Funny how the likes of Vardy et al only flourish when playing competitive club football yet the likes of Nick Powell stagnate in the U21 squads. If a premier league club capped their first team squads then, and had a ceiling on foreign players, then 'English' players would have sufficient opportunity to play first-team football. PLus English players would also consider foreign leagues alongside lower league football as employers.

So maybe Brexit is a good idea. Limit overseas players!
