There's been a lot of interest in the play off final between Wimbledon and Plymouth, understandably so because it could have been us. But equally important for us next season is the outcome of Millwall vs Barnsley as we will play one and avoid the other. You have to be impressed with 6th place Barnsley thrashing 3rd place Walsall 6-1 over the 2 legs, plus of course they are on a double having won the JPT at Wembley against Oxford. All this after losing their manager. And 4th placed Millwall did a fair job eliminating 5th placed Bradford City. i think my money would be on Barnsley to win purely based on their results against Walsall. From a personal point of view Barnsley will be easier for me to get to than Millwall. Never been to the New Den but was at the last ever game at the old Den. We won 3-0 I think and I seem to remember Stewy and Lee Archer scoring? I also remember the Police advising us to leave with about 15 minutes to go - we took the advice!

Come to think of it I have been to the New Den. 1 all draw, think Boris scored, took a few quid off the bookie for scorer and correct score. Went into a club there, doorman with proper jacket, rope through the shoulders, and jeans. How could I forget such an experience.

On TV, I watched both legs of the Millwall / Bradford semi-final and thought that Millwall had a solid defence and a clinical, cutting edge: a good mix for success. Millwall look a totally different side from the one that didn't seem to be trying in their JPT semi-final against Oxford (the only other view of Millwall I've had this year).
Barnsley seem to be coming into form at just the right time, so it could be a very competitive Wembley final on Sunday.
I've only been to the Old Den (once, in December 1983, a 1:0 defeat for Rovers), so would like to go to the "new' Den, but wondered how uncomfortable such a visit might prove. (The Millwall fans during the Bradford game seemed reminiscent of our own dear neighbours).
Extracts from the Football Ground Guide ("What's It Like for Away Fans?").
"Away fans are located at one end of the ground in the North Stand (usually in the upper tier only). Around 4,000 away fans can be accommodated in this end. Like the general improvement in football, a trip to Millwall is not as threatening as it once was. However, it is hardly a relaxing day out and I found the Den to be quite intimidating. The large police presence at the match I attended did nothing to dampen this feeling. I would advise that you exercise caution around the ground and not to wear club colours".
The most popular method of travel for away fans to the Den, is by official club coach, or by train from London Bridge. The Police are well drilled in dealing with the coaches and supporters arriving by train. Once inside the ground you will generally find the stewards helpful and friendly.
Richard Langran a visiting Leicester City fan adds; 'We chose to drive down to Millwall and park away from the stadium. It was somewhat intimidating walking to and from the ground and the Leicester fans were kept back inside the stadium for quite a long time after the final whistle'.
Luke Fern a visiting Bolton Wanderers fan informs me; 'Inside the ground the concourse is mostly concreted and looks very dull. It is also very cramped with little space available for fans to get around those queuing for food and drinks. However the view from our seats was excellent and the stewards were very tolerant and friendly. We had travelled by official Club coach and had to wait 45 minutes after the game had ended before we were allowed to exit the stadium car park'.

I think it was 'Magic' Mikey Davis who got the third. I wonder what happened to him!

I will be there cheering on the Tykes. Fantastic two games to get to the final but the real pressure is on now. If I was honest (please don't tell the wife) but would rather Millwall won so we could have two good games v the Tykes, on the other hand could see the Tykes bet them south of the river.

Cheering the Tykes, obviously, as Millwall are......well.....Millwall.
Besides, Barnsley fans have enough to contend with as it is coming from Barnsley so they deserve a break. What a sh*thole.

Two good teams, both on very good form.
This will either be an absolute humdinger or they could cancel each other out. Finals are usually a let down with neither wanting to make a crucial mistake but I'm looking forward to this one more than any other.
On the flip side Walsall and Bradford didn't look much cop for play off sides, a nice reminder that we should fear nobody in L1 and could do well yet again.

I selfishly want Barnsley to go through as I like going to Millwall. I was there at the last game at the Old Den. Our last game in the old Division 2 (talking 4 divisions). Full Time came at about 75 minutes - both teams by some strange coincidence amassed right by the exit. Cue a very drunken and boistrous pitch invasion. Millwall fans saved the Club a fortune by dismantling the Old Den themselves. No problems that day (that I saw or was aware of). Thought it was 1-3 to the Gas and "Mad" (as opposed to "Magic") Mike Davis scored a couple.

One of my silly point scoring factlets is that technically we're still in the 2nd division because that game hasn't finished yet. Actually, I think that was the first season it was called (daftly) Div 1.

would like millwall to win as have yet to tick off barnsley away.
Having said that, despite the reputation of the club, been to millwall a few times and have to say in my experience the stewards and staff there are amongst the most friendly and welcoming I have encountered.

Luckily, at least one Millwall fan had the foresight to bring a wheelbarrow with him that day!

And yes - there was definitely a cockney geezer in full lion costume prowling on top of the old stand at about 100 foot up. Not sure what Health and Safety would make of that these days. I'm doubtful that a full risk assessment of all leonine activities was taken out prior to the game. Good day out though. Trivia point - the first and last games played at the Old Den were both played against Bristol Rovers.

Couldn't care less really, I've been to both grounds. I've been to Oakwell less than the New Den, but that's not really a reason to favour one or the other.
I hope whoever is going to be stronger next season goes up!

Yeah, I remember the Lion on the roof of the stand. I also recall that every time the ball went into the crowd it was never returned and around a dozen balls went missing. I seem to recall that most of their anger was not directed at us but the press box took a bit of a hammering.

We drove up and got in the ground early, there was millwall in the gas end doing some scouting, and not the dib dib type....the same geezer turned up in the home end as kick off neared. Having drove one didn't appreciate fellow gas heads singing, ( before retiring to their coach parked 3 inches from the turnstile) "your just a bunch of w*nkrs" when they invaded the pitch. Happy days!
