I've heard noises that the new contracts haven't been well received by the players..... Could be a load of old bollox tho. I've seen Lee Mansell taking the piss on Twitter, just like he always does Yeah I saw that as well but that was after I'd heard this rumour. Like I said probably bollox and a coincidence...

I too have been surprised by the lack of Rovers activity, but surely a contract offer is the start point for negotiations with the agent and player. Many of us will have asked for better terms such as pay, flexitime, time off, holidays etc. It does seem what many of us sceptics were saying about 'contract offers to all' could be right. At the same time you realise over the years that contract negotiations are rarely short and players after all have until the end of the month. It's quite likely that at the end of a season the Chairman, manager and player are not all in the same place. It does show, and probably quite rightly, that being a footballer for most is just a job and a short-lived one at that. BRSC has a running article: bristolroverssc.co.uk/2016/05/26/201617-squad-2/

Most contracts run to the end of June (correct me if I am wrong) so there is no panic just yet as everyone is either still in contract, negotiating a new one, or being told to find a new one.
Thus this month is surely a massive state of flux?

Transfer News Update1 June Dean Winnard [Accrington - Morecambe] Free Joe Wright [Huddersfield - Doncaster] Free Josh Yorwerth [Ipswich - Crawley] Free www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/transfersPlymouth ArgyleDerek Adams’ men are still hurting on the back of their Bank Holiday Monday Play-Off Final defeat to AFC Wimbledon at Wembley. A total of 13 players have been offered new contracts. Three more players have had options taken up on extending their contracts for an additional year. Those are Graham Carey, Jake Jervis and Gary Sawyer. Three senior professionals will leave the club, and that released trio is headlined by Deane Smalley. His two-year stay at the club has been hampered by injuries, so Adams has given him the opportunity to rebuild his career elsewhere. He only made five starts since signing. Also moving on will be Josh Simpson. The ex-Crawley Town midfielder has also had his injury concerns, something which damped his time at Crawley as well. He is another looking to rebuild his career and will be hoping to prove his fitness in the process. Finally, Callum Hall moves on having struggled to make the step up to first-team level after graduating from the academy. A whole host of players have been offered contracts for next season, 13 in total. Those names are as followed: James Bittner, Ryan Brunt, Vincent Dorel, Peter Hartley, Tyler Harvey, Luke McCormick, Carl McHugh, Kelvin Mellor, Curtis Nelson, Ben Purrington, Reuben Reid, Louis Rooney and Gregg Wylde. the72.co.uk/55784/retained-list-13-offered-new-plymouth-deals/

I think contracts expire on 31st May BUT the PFA have negotiated that players are paid until the 30th June, a point that always erked G Dunford when he was in charge.
Leaving it until the end of June to insist players declare there intentions is leaving it late. I'd be telling player's that the offer of a new contract expires by mid June and if they have not signed a new contract, BRFC will withdraw the offer and start looking elsewhere for players.

I agree, BRFC appear to spend too much of the close-season seemingly hanging around in my opinion. The players have done well and are still under contract and relaxing, as is their right. The manager is enjoying a well-earned and deserved break away from it all, as he should be doing. But in the meantime we appear to be once again drifting. Now I cannot believe that the new owners would allow such a thing, but I have endured too many close-seasons where all the work of signing players appears to come later rather than sooner. Hopefully the Chairman will be back in his office at the Mem anytime soon, and making one or two phone calls. But then again, patience is a virtue I suppose.

I don't think you need to worry I am certain DC will have started some enquiries already. It won't be as bad as the summers when all efforts went in chasing Constable and JJOT so publicly, what a farce those years were. DC will have his targets and will go about it very discreetly. Using the BBC website for most of my info it is noticeable how most other league 2 managers were "rent a quote", they were always on the league 2 page saying this and that. DC was not and sometimes the Rovers page didn't change for 5/6 days, he seemed to keep very quiet or just talk to our website guys not the BBC. My point is he keeps things in house until the deal or whatever is done. I don't know but it just seems that way from watching him over 2 years and how he uses the press. I didn't expect to hear anything before mid-June. He has earned himself a well deserved holiday and down time period and I think we will need to be patient and just trust him! I think people on here will be more worried because they will have seen Fleetwood, Shrewsbury and perhaps some others signing loads of players and will think we should be should be as well. We are different we need 3/4 players who will go straight into team not squad players. They have just avoided relegation and need an overhaul, we don't. I suspect that there is a time limit on the offers made to our players and I think it will coincide with DC coming back from holiday. Then he will have a better idea of who is staying and the recruitment that is needed. Last year it was exactly the same, only it was Cambridge, Notts Co, Yeovil and Leyton O who were signing everyone and they must have each reached double figures. Everyone was saying they would be there or there abouts just because of numbers. It didn't turn out well for them because they had quantity not quality. I hope and trust that DC will get a few good quality players who will get in the team because we don't need squad players, we have those. I hope it is a sign that we are planning moves for younger and more hungry players perhaps from League 2 or National League or youngsters who are released from Premier or Championship and not the players looking for a last good contract. I just think we need to be patient. .....and only start to panic in first week of August if we don't have any signings!!! UTG!

Surely he is just waiting for his scouts to back from the European Championship before snapping up a few Slavs and Skandis?

I don't understand this thread. I haven't a clue about other players as I only watch rover's, a couple of views of a player on TV is useless. We have an analyst and presumably some sort of scouting network. Ultimately any even slightly gifted player will be in the cross hairs of numerous clubs, thus u just hope rover's r more appealing.
And no I'm not in a good mood.

Transfer News Update4 June Brett Williams [Forest Green - Torquay United] Free 3 June David Gregory [Crystal Palace - Cambridge] Free Ashley Hemmings [Dagenham - Mansfield] Free AJ Leitch-Smith [Port Vale - Shrewsbury] Free George Maris [Barnsley - Cambridge] Free Ryan McGivern [Port Vale - Shrewsbury] Free Aaron Phillips [Coventry - Northampton] Free Danny Rose [Northampton - Portsmouth] Free Ed Upson [Millwall - MK Dons] Free www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/transfersLatest Rumours: twitter.com/TransferCentre9www.transferrumours.co.uk/football-rumours.co.uk/Fleetwood Town set for huge windfall from Vardy’s move to ArsenalFleetwood Town are set to make £5 million if Jamie Vardy completes his move from Leicester City to Arsenal Following their promotion to the Football League in 2012, Fleetwood sold Vardy to the Foxes for a fee believed to be around £1m. Now that the striker has become an England international and helped Leicester become the most unlikely champions of England in a century, it seems like they sold him for too little. But Fleetwood could be set for a massive payday. According to The Guardian, Arsenal have activated a release clause in Vardy’s contract which is around the £20million mark and a clause from the initial sale from Fleetwood to Leicester could be about to help them. According to reports from when Vardy was first linked with a move away from the King Power Stadium in January, Fleetwood have a 25% sell on clause from the transfer. This means that if the former Halifax Town forward completes his move to North London, the Cod Army will get a £5million boon from a deal made back in 2012. The transfer is becoming increasingly likely after Arsenal agreed to meet the release clause and the most recent reports suggest the deal will be done in the next 24 hours. the72.co.uk/56510/fleetwood-town-set-for-huge-windfall-from-vardys-move-to-arsenal/Coventry City have begun talks with Sheffield Wednesday’s Caolan Lavery The 23-year-old striker joined the Owls in 2012 as a development project and was able to break into the first team on a number of occasions. During his time at Hillsborough, he made 39 appearances and scored 6 goals. However Lavery ended up being one of the unlucky ones after the new owner Dejphon Chansiri heavily invested in new strikers, forcing the Northern Irish forward down the pecking order. And with first team football not looking likely for Lavery, he is set to be released this summer and could be about to sign for Coventry. According to this report, he has already begun talks with the Sky Blues about a potential move to the West Midlands though the transfer may be a while off yet. Currently no other teams have stepped forward to begin talks with Lavery but there are a few teams who may end up being interested. This season saw Lavery have a successful three month stint with Portsmouth where he ended up forming a potent partnership with McMulty and scored 4 goals in thirteen appearances and it’s possible that Pompey may end up going back in for him. the72.co.uk/56507/coventry-city-begin-talks-with-released-sheffield-wednesday-striker/Swindon Town have rejected a bid for their highly sought after striker, Nicky Ajose.footballleagueworld.co.uk/swindon-town-reject-500000-bid-from-championship-club-for-star-striker/

I'm pretty sure Rovers can withdrawal a contract offer at any time or set a date the deal offered is off the table if they wish

I’m pretty sure plenty goes on months before the end of the season.
Some players know they won’t be getting offers and if out of contract agents will tout their players about. If scouts and analysys and managers have being doing their job through the season there will be names of players they are interested in and this is presumably passed to the higher ups to sort out
Oh and I’m sure it isn’t just our manager and players having a break. I presume some people think they are sat around doing nothing and don’t talk to anyone. This is the age of instant communication across the world. I’m sure DC can Face Time a prospective signing to talk to them if necessary

Sonny Bradley (Centre back) is available from Crawley, he is one that can easily make it in L1 and maybe higher.
