Harry obviously you are entitled to your opinion but did Higgs and Co pay for the wages out of their own pocket the last two years. According to the accounts that we can see they were paid by the football club. DC's budget was parred back so credit should go to him and the playing management for cutting their cloth accordingly and still getting back to back promotions. And what about the Wonga style loan. If Higgs had still been in charge now following the defeat to Sainsbury would he have paid off the debt to save the club or continued to pursue Sainsbury? Much of that debt resulted from the persistent pursuit of Sainsbury even though they lost time and again? Harry perhaps you can answer this genuine question. Why does there seem to be so much bitterness coming out from people like Jim and other Higgs supporters towards the new Board even though we are in the best position we have been for years? Do Jim and those others believe the new Board are going to disappear? I personally have not heard or seen much evidence to suggest bitterness towards the new board. I do know Dc still consulted Nick Higgs in the early months following the takeover. I do find that since Feb the credit appears to have been directed towards the new board....forgetting the previous six months when Higgs and co were at the helm. To many the promotion was a direct result of the takeover. I must admit I feel that is not fair to the previous board. Agreed the chasing of the appeal was unwarranted but that was the advice given by their lawyers. I think most of us think the promotion had little to do with either board. I know which one most of us like more, though!

I think most of us think the promotion had little to do with either board. I know which one most of us like more, though! Someone on the old official forum had a signature saying something about a trinity of the manager, the players, and the supporters; everyone else is just there to pay the bills. There's something to that. The current manager, players, and supporters have been promoted twice in two seasons, and under two different boards. Good on the manager, players, and supporters. They are the trinity common to both achievements. But when a board presides over relegation down two divisions and out of the football league, sacking a(nother) manager more than once per season during this abject descent, then it seems reasonable to absolve the football trinity of blame, and to look to Box One for the people responsible. Especially if you suspect that they also ran the business side of the club to the brink of administration.

Shortly after the new owners took over the club we dropped to 10th then the new owners feel good factor took over and that more than anything seems to have taken us to promotion. Without the take over we may have crept into a Play off spot at best, to credit NH with promotion is surely misplaced loyalty.

Wael's takeover might have lifted the gloom around the club, but to credit him with anything that happened on the pitch is rather fanciful. We got promoted purely because Darrell Clarke has assembled a decent squad of players and got them motivated and performing well. He was doing that under the old regime, and he carried on under the new one.

Wael could think that D was being disrespectful, however going on we know about Wael I think that he would forgive DC.

To many the promotion was a direct result of the takeover. I must admit I feel that is not fair to the previous board. Agreed the chasing of the appeal was unwarranted but that was the advice given by their lawyers. Oh behave yourself. He talked about, at the height of the promotion euphoria, how he focused on attributing it all to Nick Higgs. He talked about a 'presidential' visit (his inverted commas, what's that about?) to the drinkers on Gloucester Road, presumably rather than sliming about with what used to be the inner circle. He talked about shareholders having to sell to the Al-Qadi family (three months on). He made an issue of a bus trip, which is a non-issue, when he's been mute on much bigger issues for years. If you give him the benefit of the doubt on all that, where was any praise or acknowledgement for what's happened since February? It shouldn't be hard: at the least, leaving well alone, manager and team wise; then, especially from the supporters' perspective, thanks for the lick of paint and scoreboard. If he had wanted to say anything good to align with the new regime, it was easy. He didn't. I think they had more impact than that, but let's not push it here, rather focusing on what someone who was merely grudging, but not bitter, might have said. He didn't. As for the lawyers, we've only had their version of what the lawyers said, and even then the issue is how that advice was taken. We're all on a high, for the future as much as the present; he isn't. Plenty of evidence of bitterness. He doesn't speak for me.

Something that did change was talk of legal action around the stadium, high interest loans, debt, banning orders etc. It's all well and good the manager saying that he and his team ignore that stuff and concentrate on their job, but in reality, their job must get easier without distractions.

It's interesting to compare this latest edition of "Jim's Jottings" with the one from March (the most recent I can find on the SC website). He seemed more than happy with the new owners back then. I can only conclude that the lack of a party for SC volunteers is what has got under his skin now.
"Jim’s Jottings March 3, 2016 A Pleasant Surprise. And Much More. ARE_YOU_DREAMING (This article by BRSC Chair, Jim Chappell, first appeared in the Hartlepool United programme.)
I think you can all stop pinching yourselves now – it really has happened to us, and not some other lucky club. Bristol Rovers is now owned by a family with big connections in the football world, up to FIFA Presidency level and we will be able to compete in future on much better terms. An advance phone call from outgoing Chairman Nick Higgs prepared me for an almost surreal press conference packed with media in the tiny Denis Dunford suite on Friday 19th February 2016. One of the press interviews I gave was to the Bristol Post and when published Bristol Rovers reporter James McNamara gave my headline comment as ‘a pleasant surprise’ – a little understated I have to admit. That was deliberately so given many a ‘false dawn’ breaking moment with this great club that I love and I had only just started to digest what the future could hold for us of the blue & white persuasion. Probably the most heartening aspect of the takeover for me as Chairman of the Supporters Club is that the only two Directors who remain from the previous Board are Ken Masters and Brian Seymour Smith. These are ordinary fans elected by the SC membership thanks to the Share Scheme that I signed up to with another former Football Club Chairman, Geoff Dunford, in 2003. Approximately 200 members continue to support the Share Scheme but we all continue paying-in every month to purchase shares in the FC on behalf of the BRSC. As a result of this foresight two ordinary fans remain to sit around the Boardroom table with some pretty distinguished individuals and Rovers’ supporters will continue to have some input. The BRSC were not required to sell our shares, unlike others, including past Directors, such as Geoff Dunford. It appears that our new owners are genuinely wanting to include the supporters in their ongoing venture. Obviously at the back of all this is our loyal supporters and the potential of Bristol Rovers. We have now been to Wembley, (old and new), and the Millennium Stadium on a total of five occasions and taken tens of thousands each time. In the 1950’s to 1970’s there were often attendances in excess of 30,000 at dear old Eastville. So, the possibilities once we start climbing the League and have a new ground capable, are obvious. Even in that one awful season down in the Conference we pulled some incredible crowds, breaking all records at that level including of course an amazing 11,600 ‘sell-out’ here on the final day against little Alfreton Town. So folks, our continuing involvement is down to you and especially those of you in the Share Scheme. As they say; ‘thanks for your support’. As I write this last week Ken, Vice Chair Chris Walker and I, (Brian works away up in the Midlands), are still in the process of ‘making friends’ with our new owners and future colleagues. The composition of the eventual Board is still being determined. For the moment, I can only speak as I find and all the Al Qadi family, especially our new President Wael Al Qadi and Chairman Steve Hamer, have been openly welcoming and friendly. There is bound to be much talk on the terraces about a new stadium and new players but I don’t think much is going to change in the near future. The Chairman has twice stated it will be ‘evolution and not revolution’ and I’m pleased to hear that. In the excitement surrounding the new owners at half-time against Morecambe was a presentation made by Brian to Malcolm Norman, in celebration of his 50 years, since last missing a Rovers home game. It was organised by programme contributor and club historian, Mike Jay, and it topped off a great day made even better of course with three more valuable points. Congratulations to Malcolm; – I’ve got another six years for my unbroken half-century. Up the Pirates."

I can only conclude that the lack of a party for SC volunteers is what has got under his skin now. Incumbents, upon takeover by new management, may initially be prone to sycophancy, while negotiating or assessing likely channels of influence. If this does not go as well as they had hoped, then a sudden change of regard may be inevitable. Considering widespread condemnation of the near disasterous tenure of Higgs, and considering widespread excitement about the potential under and refreshing approaches of Messers Hamer and Al Qadi, for Chappell to end up so far far away in both cases from the widespread consensus of the supporters he is elected to serve, well this must take some truly momentous effort of devil's advocacy. Either that or he's mourning the loss of a rather too cosy relationship with a rather too awful regime. But that would make him a crony and a crook. So it can't be that one.

Anyone know who Eastville 73 is on Gaschat? I seem to be having a bit of a debate with them and getting told how the SC was being squeezed etc. Below is a response to them. Is it fair comment? I seem to be going round in circles with them.
They should have made a stand. Who knows if it would have made a difference. But it would have been a story to report.
When there have been many failed and/or half hearted attempt to creatr a new fans group, you get told to get involved in the SC. If the SC spoke up maybe they would have mobilised more support and help.
Pretending to tow the party line was acheiving what. If the SC chair and directors felt similar to a lot of mouthy people on the internet than why didnt they reach out to them?
A lot of those 'mouthy' people had heled the SC in the past so maybe they could have brought them into the fold or revitalised them.
Is moaning behind closed doors about the club shafting.the SC any different to blowing hot air on a forum?

Reading this thread lots of people including you shoveller seem to give a s**t. And actually Jim Chappell isn't one of the people on here giving a s**t . Perhaps those who are objecting to Jim's view can let us know if they intend on doing anything other than sit behind their keyboard? I'd be happy to vote for anyone on here who wishes to stand as BRSC chairman.

I disagree. Something that did change was talk of legal action around the stadium, high interest loans, debt, banning orders etc. It's all well and good the manager saying that he and his team ignore that stuff and concentrate on their job, but in reality, their job must get easier without distractions. I've always thought that the upturn in form after the takeover was directly linked to the event. Results weren't good enough for a top 3 finish and new contract talks were on hold. By the end of January players were able to concentrate on looking for new clubs for next season. The takeover happens and almost immediately we win 8 on the trot during, I think, a run of 9 wins from 10 and automatic promotion was on or as I told everybody during that period, "It was cast in stone."

I know Jim and wholeheartedly agree with his comments. Was a staggering PR disaster not to celebrate promotion via a bust our or a meal to thank the many unpaid volunteers who sustain the Club. The new owners came in and took the glory but Higgs and co paid for the wages of the players who obtained promotion. Supporters need to be recognised not disregarded. WAQ did not take the glory and even in an interview he said he couldn't and it was down to DC and the boys. I hope NH is just as willing to admit he's the reason we went from League One to the Conference in the first place? He's the reason we were in debt we couldn't afford and the reason we took out stupid payday loans. If it wasn't for WAQ our future was at risk. The problem is that Jim in his position has to speak for the fans and all he's done is speak about his views. Strange he never chirped up under the old management. I feel someone is a bit bitter that he's no longer necessary. He should step down.

I have 100% confidence in the new Board. I'm sure they are looking at the Supporters Club and how they represent and reflect the fans opinions. Seems like an opportune moment to completely dissolve the current SC structure, strip out the deadwood, retain the good and start again. Sounds like too much bitterness and resentment to tinker with what is currently in place. Anyone aligning themselves closely with the discredited old regime will be a sitting target. Good bye Jim. For the record - I do not want a bloody open bus parade for finishing 3rd in the old Division 4. In relation to the SC, in the words of Edwyn Collins: "Rip it up and start again".
