I hope this can be sorted out. Am sure the SC is exactly that, a club full of BRFC supporters and that we are all fully behind the new board. However, if there is a feeling of not being appreciated, it needs to be nipped in the bud because any club is dependent upon fans and volunteers to carry out all the jobs no one else does. I'm sure Steve Hamer and Wael will do so if they know. I can just about remember in the early to mid 60s the supporters club then under Eric Godfrey fell out with the club for several year, don't remember the detail just what my grandad was saying at the time as he was involved at the then True Blue Club. That I remember it shows that it can't have been good and we need to avoid it now. The SC needs some younger, enthusiastic supporters to lead it and bring it to life/up with the times. It also needs some younger, open-minded SC Directors who are good communicators and willing to ALWAYS put SC members views across to the board earnestly and forcefully when appropriate. I don't know how it should be done - but there really needs to be a new leaf turned at the club to ensure a strong relationship can be formed and bridged between the fanbase and the owners. Perhaps the owners could invite SC members and non-members to form a new fans' committee - elect some members ??

I know Jim and wholeheartedly agree with his comments. Was a staggering PR disaster not to celebrate promotion via a bust our or a meal to thank the many unpaid volunteers who sustain the Club. The new owners came in and took the glory but Higgs and co paid for the wages of the players who obtained promotion. Supporters need to be recognised not disregarded. There's a new broom and it's sweeping away years of neglect and old boys style of patting of backs and the other crap that came with that. NH takes the glory ? Don't think so. A bus tour really is not needed as we gained promotion via 3rd spot so no winners of a final and I understand the reasoning. We are now being run professionally and with no more of the "in" crowd culture of the previous lot. Thank god

Nothing to do with age, what's needed is to try to replace people of the calibre that resigned way back in 2006. They can be 26 or 106 years old, it matters not.

Very odd indeed and completely out of step with the general tide of enthusiasm for the take-over, promotion.
One would have to agree that there are plenty of selfless volunteers, mobilised by the SC that help the club, but to go to print with what seems to be a petulant attack on the new regime and the regular supporter enjoying a celebratory pint on Gloucester Road is, at best, ill judged.

Genuinely, an unbelievable read. No follow up celebrations could match what went on after the game, on the pitch or on glos road. That is a fact.
Pathetic attempt by a bitter tw@t, to have a jab at the new owners. Surprised he climbed out of Higgs arse long enough to chuck these ramblings together.

I'm sure there are many volunteers at the club and I'm sure the club has benefited greatly from their contribution of time and energy over many, many years. I'm certain Steve Hamer made a comment about it shortly after the take over about how surprised how many there were ? I think the supporters club need to consider what part they have to play in the future of our football club. We now have rich owners, do they really want to be held to ransom by what appears to be a very archaic supporters group who still want to financially support the Youth Academy and buy shares in the club, maybe they may not want us to. Wouldn't it be better if they through our fans reps on the board ask what role they would now like the supporters club to play in the club ? Maybe the new owners will only want them to organise things for the supporters like supporters coaches, Young Pirates etc which they do very well. The article seems quite at odds with the general feelings currently being experienced, almost as if there is still a great feeling of distrust towards the new owners and wanting to hark back to former times. If that is the case you can't see it having much of a future in its present format.

When it comes to recognising supporters, that bit made me laugh out loud - since when have the SC been interested in speaking up for the fans before? If the new owners hadnt come in then the matter or not of promotion would be nothing but a sideshow because we would be up sh*t creek.

Maybe Jim should talk to Brian I will be honest and say that the last few years, after a promising start four years ago, became harder and harder. As you will be aware the previous regime held what they called "equity directors meetings." As time went on, it became clear that board meetings were starting to play second fiddle to the main decision making. It was becoming clear also I was learning more about what was happening at the club through Forums such as this than I did at Board meetings, even though I was accused of believing what I read on the forums. It seems at times some of the comments made, particularly from the Fans Forum for example, were often and are 'spot on' and I appreciate that this really is from my point of view not an acceptable position to be in from a representational point of view. Well said. The answer is before 2006, but since then they've reverted to type. I seem to remember Jim and his SC executive agreeing, behind closed doors, to vote in favour of the SS equity being diluted. Then they sold 199 without consulting the SC members whose money bought the property. Perhapes the SC should go away, have a little think about what exactly they want to be and maybe come back with a proposal that separates the SS from whatever it is that Jim seems to think they ought to be doing. Ratched will probably be along in a minute.

Similarly, several Committee members and others work on the 50/50 right up to half-time and on the programme sales and shop receipts up to the end of day. Unlike the drinkers on Gloucester Road there is no ‘presidential’ visit for them to celebrate promotion so they all deserve a bus tour at least
This is really unprofessional. He has a point, but to say this is petulant and not becoming of the clubs direction. If he has/had a problem them mention it to hamer/al qadi. We are all supporting the same club here, let's discuss it constructively.

Blimey! Doesn't sound as if many bridges will be built here! Pretty sure new BOD will not want to start an argument with any part of the fan base so something will get sorted. But neither will they want to compromise with a group they might not agree with. After all it's their club now. You can tell it's the close season, roll on the new season! UTG!

I don't know Jim but it appears to me he is well and truly out of touch with Rovers supporters which for the Chairman of the SUPPORTERS CLUB is incredulous.
At a time when, after decades of discord, we have real harmony between the club management and Gasheads, the SUPPORTERS CLUB CHAIRMAN who's previous silence was deafening pens a critical piece such as this. To say it's disappointing doesn't even come close.
We've had a change in the boardroom, perhaps those winds of change may now drift towards the supporters club committee.

I suspect, given all that's been said and done about transforming the club, the new owners would welcome a functional supporters' club and sounding board. I also suspect they've viewed what's there and written it off. Rightly so. If we thought the current set-up might adapt itself to that role, I think Jim's Jottings have proved someone else needs to take the lead.
Face it, with a 92% shareholding, albeit so far seemingly wise and benevolent, voting strength isn't the way. Neither is snide swiping. There ought to be an arrangement that works for both parties, but it needs a level of new thinking. Jim seems to be completely stuck in the past and wedded to the old model. Like that worked (beyond personal interest for a handful).

An appalling article. And he can't even get the number of shares right! It was 700,000 Mr. Chappell.

I'm guessing that the SC hierarchy will not have liked the fact that Wael and Hamer have already met with some of the unofficial fans groups, and taken note of their suggestions and proposals.
The wind of change is gathering pace!
