Yo! I am so hip with the kids. Not necessarily my cup of tea. My daughter spotted the Rovers footage - 2:30 and 3:10. Anyone know if he is anything to do with us? Bristol Rovers are soooooooooooooo cool. I mean swag. So sick.

good spot! Things have moved on a bit in the last 40 years.....
This royal throne of kings, this scepter'd isle, This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars, This other Eden, demi-paradise, This fortress built by Nature for herself Against infection and the hand of war, This happy breed of men, this little world, This precious stone set in the silver sea, Which serves it in the office of a wall, Or as a moat defensive to a house, Against the envy of less happier lands, This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England

Damn! Beaten by Facebook. Fair play to my daughter for spotting it on the You Tube. Rap with a capital C - each to their own though.

Nowt to do with us directly, but during a UK tour he heard the mem was the place to be for atmos innit.
Better than going to castle greyskull.
My sons into this stuff, can't stand it myself, then again I'm sure my old man hated stiff little fingers and the clash, and I would have hated it if he did like em!

Quality bands, still catch SLF every other year or so. Used to go every year when I lived in Bristol PS....No Sleep Till Belfast is my favourite "rap" track

It's a great track actually. Sure, some of you lot like what you like and that's fair enough but youth culture (especially in the hardest areas to grow up in) is worth having an open eye and ear to.
Kano is one of the long-standing East London artists who has had a lot of success over the last fifteen years by conveying real culture in music.
He was touring the UK and stood in the Blackthorn as part of broadening his own horizons when the clips on this video were shot. For me I think it's very close-minded to shun it without exploring and understanding who is creating it, why it's being created and what impact it's having on current youth culture.
My dad was actually the person who sent me the video a few weeks ago, so it's nothing to do with age... keep your horizons broad, people.

We all need filters to screen out the noise
does it say anything in particular/give any original insights do you think - it didn't to me, but that might well be due to my cloth ears?

I thought that was a really decent tune, and really good to see Rovers getting our props in the middle of it

Original insights is the key thing about what you just mentioned. No it doesn't give any original insights, it's saying the same thing that pre-Sex Pistols punks were challenging - the notion that there's a hard underbelly to the society that we live in that causes a lot of struggle and disfunction. However, as each generation is born, the music changes and that message is lost. The majority of teens are not going back and listening to Vic Godard and the Subway Sect. If you look at the sort of music most teens listen to these days, there's no real or serious political or cultural messaging behind it. So when a UK artist comes along and speaks to several generations over a fifteen year period about struggles faced in an inner city upbringing that will influence and educate a lot of people around the country. Get them thinking and asking questions about their role in this society. I'd listen to Kano over Nicky Minaj and Katy Perry every day of the week. It's real conversation rather than a money-making machine shovelling rubbish down the ear canals of our youngsters.

It's not my usual cup of tea, but it's got more energy and depth than the bilge our kids get mostly these days. I'm glad our place was chosen as an experience of England and an example of This Is England. Seems a bit mean to slag it off, even it's not something I'd usually choose. We're famous.

thanks eastlondon. My sons listen to this type of thing. I will ask them too Seeing as it's only 6 stops from AMPG's Loughton to Leytonstone (sort of start of the East End) on the Central Line - I suggest a couple of glasses in the rub-a-dub to discuss the merits of said musical artiste. UTG. Kano is a Gashead!
