To put things into context city averaged 12096 last season whilst winning league one at a canter and being top almost all season. If we are in or around the play offs next season i'd be disappointed not to be averaging 9500-10000.

Well done GasMacc1, lots of work there. And the away support may be much higher because lots of gasheads go in the home stands. Because I am not on any priority lists getting away tickets has become increasingly difficult and when going to away games I usually go straight to the ticket lines of the opponents and get a ticket in their stand. It saves a lot of time and waiting on lines and for general release. Did this for Yeovil, Plymouth and York and at York there were lots of us in main stand.

Like I said you can make stats look like anything. There's still a lot of tinpot clubs in L1 too. MK brought 200 odd. Crewe 300. Gillingham, Crawley Town etc. Compared to next season for example where we can give Newcastle, Villa, Birmingham etc the whole Atyeo if we want. Then the stats get skewed because our attendance starts to become 20k+ and we've done bugger all different.

Attendance wise league one is very much like league two, substitute Sheffield Utd for pompey and plymouth for Coventry and say millwall for Luton and you're left with a number of poorly supported clubs who barely muster 4000 and i would imagine with equally awful away followings, just like league two We had a number of shocking away attendances this year, many under 100. Accrington brought 48 i think on a sunny september afternoon! We will be in exactly the same position in comparison to the rest re: attendances and resources so absolutely no reason why we shouldn't be play offs.

Interesting stat: Rovers away v Notts County: Attendance 5,052 Away fans: 1,108 City away v Nottingham Forest: Attendance 20,551 Away fans: 1,032 Whilst this statistic is enjoyable, it is not a complete story. South Bristol went to an away game when they were near the bottom of the table and expected to lose. Rovers, on the other hand, are in a playoff position and always had a fair to good chance of winning, - I think if the other mob were higher in the table at the time and had been expected to have a good result, they would have taken more inbreds supporters than they did. Still a brilliant away attendance for a 4th Division club!
haha is that the excuse they are using?
If so, that is complete bollox from the south Bristol massive. They got absolutely dicked by Fulham at home and then took 4-5000 for the away fixture so that really doesn't add up.
Championship.....you're having a laff!

As they like to remind us when it suits them, they're going to big teams with a history and we play no body's every week. They have no excuse.

Ah well, their Bristol Rovers Appreciation thread on OTIB seems to be as popular as ever, always seems to be at the top of their forum the rare occasions I go on there (as a guest I might add)
Millions spent on players, massive wages, billionaire owner, polished turd of a stadium and they stand just one league above little old Rovers who still have Andy Tillson as the record signing over 20 years ago! No wonder they are chuffed!

You've always had a bizarre home to away ratio. Your away attendance is good, there's no question. But you can get 5k follow you away then struggle to get more than 8,500 at home and you never sold out the ground once. Our away is ok but we averaged over 15,200 this season which is excellent considering we were bottom six for all of the season.
As upthegas mentioned, we sold out against Cambridge and Dagenham, and near as dammit against Plymouth, Yeovil and Exeter (all ticket games).

I think you'll find we did sell out more than the twice as all of the tickets available to us were sold. It was the dafty segregation that spoiled it and we got it spot,on for the final game. We should be able to use the extended part of the East terrace when we know the away side won't bring anywhere near its capacity.

I looked fairly carefully mate, and could only find those 2 games confirmed sell outs. I'm sure we would have sold out the other 3 if they hadn't been all ticket. Or perhaps they did, but didn't announce it.

You are right in that I know of several people and families who would have come to the games if they were able to pay on the day. Pit seems dafty that we can't open the ticket office, even if with only one person to man it, to sell tickets to people who turn up on the day. I don't know of any hard and fast rules that say we cannot sell tickets unless we have been asked not to, by the police and my policeman friend reliably tell me that they made no such requests apart from with the Newport home and away games. As much as I think it was a good marketing move. I don't see why we did not sell tickets, I a quiet and u der stayed way. I did see stewards let people in, on the final game. I'll not say more as I don't want to get anyone in trouble by naming names. I think it was the right thing to do and allowed people to not miss out on what was one of the best days in modern times as a gashead

Sensible stewarding has become actually more common in the last few seasons. With the exception of Cardiff City, who have always stewarded like utter tools and the WMP in Birmingham i found the stewards to be really reasonable.
The odd turn a blind eye to silly things which they can see sorted out by older heads in the away end for example. Saw that at Charlton
The Reading stewards were super friendly too. I had a good chat before the game.
In fact in pains me to say, but the stewards in the Atyeo could learn a lot. Though I notice they all seem to be Welsh.
