Can you name these? Back row second in from right stumped me.Click on pic to make bigger. Good team that. Enjoyed watching them when I was a young urchin. 4 of my all-time favourites in Bobby Jones, Harold Jarman, Stuart Taylor and Frankie Prince. Good times at Eastville.

More likely year after because I don't think Megson, back row, joined until March 1970 and unlikely to have team photo at end of year. Robin Stubbs front row, what a cf, scored lots if goals. Great photo, yes knew them all but I guess that's my vintage time late 60s to mid 70s before I had to move away. I found it easier to name those than some photos from early 00s.

What a good full back he was with Parsons on other side really good combination. Now that defence was solid. Didn't see that again until 89-90 promotion ream. Phil Roberts went to Pompey in Div 2 and had a goodish career but always thought he was better than that and could have made Div 1. At the time I think Pompey under their chair Deacon were splashing the cash....even then!

Pretty sure it's more likely to be 1970-71. What a season, in early Jan we played Villa at Eastville we were 4 points clear at top of table and we lost due to a Lindsey Parsons og. In those days it was 2 points for a win so to be 4 clear was a gap. Didnt win at home again until April, poor Bill Dodgin, tearing his hair out with our home form! Sound familiar?

Ian Hamilton. Now he was a magnificent player but not many remember him. Yes I agree, Ian was a very underrated player who always seemed to be there or thereabouts, but was never the star of the team. Do you remember him playing in big yellow gloves when it was a bit chilly? It's commonplace now of course, but not at that time and he took a bit of good natured banter for it. As for the question it has to be (predictably) Bradford and Biggs, and if there's to be a runners-up spot then Warboys and Bannister for me. But we always used to have a reputation for producing good strikers, they almost seemed to be on a conveyor belt it seems to me because they were quite plentiful. So everyone is sure to have their own pairing. But it's a good question though. It wasn't that long ago that ex rovers players topped the goals scored charts in all 4 leagues.

Although Graydon was a greedy little so and so, and Godfrey was a good player for us, I've always felt that we let Graydon go far too cheaply.

You can have the best forwards but they will only look good and score goals if you have the right players to give them the ball in the right places for their style. Warboys and Bannister had that in spades with, amongst others along the way, Kenny Stephens and Colin Dobson.

Nobody has mentioned Steve White yet,he was underrated I think. I would choose Alfie Biggs and Paul Randall. I liked that late 60s early 70s team too, always had wingers and good goal scorers, and tough tackling full backs..always got excited when we got a corner as we had a good chance of scoring.

In that promotion season, 1973-74, Don Megson the manager came in for a bit of stick early on because we had really tightened up how we played and didn't go guns-ho like we did with Bill Dodgin. It was only as September went on and we were still unbeaten that people realised that we had a very special team. Good midfield but not exceptional Tom Stanton and Frankie Prince were both very reliable and let Stephens and Dobson provide the flair. It was just a very stable team who knew what they had to do.

Was chatting to a Villa fan in the library in Usk today his favourite all time Villa player was......Ray Graydon

I remember that as well, because when he was appointed manager Don Megson laid his cards on the table as regards to what his tactics were going to be. I seem to recall that he was quoted as saying that Rovers supporters were going to have to get used to winning 1-0 in the future, rather than winning 5-4. The natives weren't happy.
