They got their success with short term money. Remember Fulham fans chanting "you'll never play us again" when they were on the up? Not sure they have the infrastructure in place to guarantee that. Would you like to be a Wigan fan now, Premium to league 1? and we are? a 4th divsion club with a clapped out stadium.Yep, I'd take League One and a nice ground. We have stagnated for years, blighted by a lack of leadership, investment and ambition.

''His chances will be limited at Cambridge,'' and ''he is not a part of their plans,'' according to the new Cambridge manager. So . . ?

The cynic in me says that there must be something wrong somewhere, he isn't the player that he was, etc, etc. And why would the new Cambridge manager want to get rid of a firm fans favourite? But seeing (and listening to) him in that interview, I must admit that I did start dreaming of better things ahead.

If his performance today is a sign of his ability we've got a bl**dy good player. Excellent in the air, good on the floor, able to hold the ball up and play others into the game and plays the channels, in fact everything those two numpty's who came on to replace him and Taylor appeared not to be interested in doing for the last fifteen minutes of the game. I cannot remember being so annoyed with two players who came on and were so lazy in their approach to the game and totally undermined our battling performance. Rory put in a real shift for 70/75 minutes and totally showed up the application that has been missing from our forward play. I'm hoping as he regains his full fitness we'll see even better performances, he didn't stop running, chasing and hassling their defence the whole time he was on the pitch.

Yes he looked like the strong centre forward that I have wanted to see in the team for a while,he had to come off as he had run out of steam but I think he could be a good signing. I didn't agree with the double substitution of the strike force,I would have replaced Gaffney with Easter and left Taylor on. I still think that Rovers need a first choice keeper,a midfielder who can spray the ball about and a winger who runs to the line and crosses, but it may be that we have all or some of these in the squad now.

The way Brown and Leadbitter were marauding down the wings today it's hard to know where a winger would fit in. Leadbitter in particularly was outstanding in his wing back role.

I presumed Taylor came off at the time as he was on a yellow, and considering what was going on around that time wouldn't have surprised me if he'd followed it up with another.

He looks like a player with serious potential. And Gaffney did look like he was the sort of forward, we`ve been crying out for. He gives us a reason to put balls into the box, other than just to watch two big centre halves, head them clear for 90 minutes. I know it`s only three quarters of one game, but fingers crossed.

It would be interesting to hear what Padstow thought of his performance - though appreciate it was only after 3/4 of a match due to the fact he hadn't much game time recently

Went to Exeter and saw Rory Gaffney play for first time I must admit I think Rovers have at last got an experienced forward. Well i like him anyway.Better than some forwards we have had recent years.

I've spoken to a few people here in Cambridge about Gaffney. He is highly rated by the fans but all is not well within the Cambridge squad, it appears that Gaffney has upset a few players and this could be the reason for his loan and not being in the managers plans. If true then we may well keep hold of him.

On BBC Sport today: Cambridge United: Shaun Derry unhappy with squad size
Cambridge United boss Shaun Derry says his current squad is too large as the January transfer window approaches. The U's have won three and lost three of their six matches since 38-year-old Derry replaced Richard Money at the League Two club. "It's tough when you walk into a football club and it's got 28 or 29 players and, with the greatest respect, we're in League Two," said Derry. "They're numbers that cause some difficulties and are too much for me." He continued to BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "Unfortunately there's going to be some unhappy lads. "But they have to be professional as well, they can't throw their dummy out; it's a long season and I'm going to be needing a number of them between now and then." The U's currently have six players on loan at the Abbey Stadium, including Everton midfielder Ryan Ledson, Gillingham striker Ben Williamson and Shrewsbury defender Mickey Demetriou. Derry confirmed that discussions were under way with parent clubs about the players they want to keep on. "I think the loans have done well for us," said Derry. "They've given us a different aspect to what I walked into and created that intensity that I've been looking for. "There'll be a number of loans that I'll want to keep and there'll be one or two who you shuffle about, but I suppose that's the advantage of playing in the loan market. "I have said that isn't something I want to be our bench mark in terms of our strength coming from our loan players - I want it to be our side and I think I'm getting closer to that." Derry thoughts on Cambridge Squad

I know it was only York but I thought he did a tremendous job of holding up the ball last Saturday.

Well taken goal by him yesterday and another good all round performance, as someone else said on another thread, "he ran his socks off", can't ask for much more than that. He seems to have struck up a really good understanding with Matty Taylor too, so if there is any money available I'd definitely sign him on until the end of the season.

He did work his socks off,but he was dominated by their big centreback and did very little with the ball,I think DC would have subbed him with Ellis if he had not been forced into using his subs earlier. But he did finish his chance well and it did seem to give him a boost and he looked better after the goal, although the Daggers players heads had dropped by then.

When Rory Gaffney came here initially there was a real question mark against his fitness, and not just his match fitness neither. But I think that we can all assume now that he is fully fit, and I just hope that the Cambridge manager doesn't have any plans for him back there because I think that he's settling in quite well.
