Having seen the replay, I drop my opposition to the goal being disallowed.

Was it Brian Clough who said something along the lines of that if a player is on the pitch and isn't interfering with play then he isn't doing his job? You are thinking of a Bill Shankly quote.

If that isn't offside under the current interpretation of the law, it bloody well should be.

Look at the video for their goal in the other thread. I grant you that it isn't a corner. But that little simple move is exactly the kind of thing you need to do to create chances. A player on the ball in a bit of space, puts in a nice looped cross in the angle that's perfect for any striker coming in with momentum. The player I saw last season doing that kind of thing for us was Andy Monkhouse (not all the time but often enough) - finding the gaps, putting in the simple high % balls across the box for people to attack. You don't need a defensive splitting midfield maestro or a 20 goal a year beast up front if you have people who are consistently creating those kind of chances. My gut feeling is that all our attacking players are a bit one dimensional and therefore too easily shut down - but that's only from watching highlights so I can't comment with any great knowledge only what I have seen of the players.
It was definitely a Billy Wright quote or was it Johnny Haynes? Wilf Mannion? Stan Mortenson? Dixie Dean? Fattie Foulkes? Billy Meredith? Some fella in the 15th Century who looked at a sheep's bladder and went 'I wonder what would happen if I gave that a good kick'?....

I realise that the subject of Chris Lines and his performances to date this season is a totally and absolutely a taboo subject for some, but I'm bound to say that I'm disappointed with what's on offer from him so far this term, but more to the point the fact that he is not a regular starter in the team speaks for itself. Steve has given his assessment of his performance from last night's game, and the question must be what has gone wrong from the end of last season until now? Don't misunderstand what I'm saying because there is nothing more that I would like to see than Chris Lines firing on all four-cylinders, but it isn't happening at present . . . and hasn't been for a little time now.
I look forward to the time that he's back to the form when he rejoined us, and I'm confident that if he can do so then the team performances are sure to improve.

Danny Blanchflower, Bill Shankly, Brian Clough... anyone else? Beattie from BT, with her ''it's good to talk'' slogan.

But it was surely Lines surging run which set up the move for Bodin's disallowed goal? Surely if we made a number of goals scoring opportunities last night Lines must have played his part?

Thought back in September that Lines could be signing of season. So far not to be. His attitude worries me and for a pretty gifted player should do much better. Still, only November and may come good. After all he was the creative mid fielder that a lot of us thought we needed.

Linesy run was certsinly part of it. Agan we are back to the first time he was here. This is somethimg he needs to do more of and be involved. Not the strutting round the centre circle dangling legs out oretending to tackle

Totally stupid place for Taylor to be. Easy to say Watching the highlights he wins the ball with a tackle in the centre circle and makes a run as the ball goes wide assuming some sort of cross will be made. Now he may have made more of an.effort to get back onside as Bodin went back and.forth but I guess he wasnt expecting a shot and was gambling on the ball going wide and.a.cross coming so he would have the advantage as play caught up

Sorry folks about the lack of a match report but although it might sound stupid Ive got a trapped nerve in my back, shoulder and arms which makes typing very difficult. Ironic that it was after such a good performance and result. I nearly wasn't well enough to even attend. Will hopefully be able to report after Saturday.
