To celebrate the 60th Anniversary of 4-0 vs Manchester United, we've started a fund raiser for a banner to commemorate it. Details bellow... www.gofundme.com/e69e3v84

Shows how we could rise to the occasion as a Div 2 team to beat a very good Club.
One major point the banner needs to mention Rovers defeated Man Utd Busby Babes 4-0 in the FA Cup.
You may need to promote this on facebook. There are 6,500 gasheads on Rovers Appreciation and 2,700 on Bristol Rovers legends group.

Don't see many players called Denzil these days.
What a great result that was and what a team we beat!!

"Don't see many players called Denzil these days"
Anyone think of 2 others who turned out for Rovers?

Denzil eh? I bet he took some ribbing in the dressing room over that moniker, I wonder if that's why he called himself Paddy?
Mind you, given the type of player that he was I doubt that too many of his opponents would have called him Denzil.

I can't help but see the irony here in that many of us are upset and angry, over cursham and yet we are celebrating this shock win. Not having a pop at OP at all but it certainly gives perspective, for me in any case. Seems we had yet another night full of chances V Sarfend. We need a Meyer, right now.

In recent years we've seen the 25th anniversary of 89-90 & 110th anniversary of the Southern League win pass without a peep from the club. The 60th anniversary of the 4-0 may seem trivial but recently we lost the last member of that side in Barrie Meyer. Let's not let these sorts of achievements go forgotten. Let's celebrate them for how incredible they were.
Maybe I'm daft but I want our supporters to celebrate these by not just having a page dedicated to them in the programme but by a show of pride, colour and passion.

That's the magic of the FA Cup. There have always been upsets and shocks, and it's all good and quite exciting in a funny kind of way . . . until it happens to your team, then the boot is firmly on the other foot.

Maybe you misread what I said. I did not write that with any disrespect and, lord knows, I've told the story to many non gas and with pride. The only trouble I have now is trying to find something to say, to Instill some magic, to people now. I have to go back to Twerton in reality. Coming back to Bristol has not been exciting has it ? It's had its moments but they have really been fleeting and far and few between. Sorry if this offends those who believe the board has done well but Higgs has been the common denominator.

Would that colour be rosé by any chance?

I used to live next door to Paddy's son (who was a s**thead!) and did meet the old man a couple of times, I never realised he played in that game- wish I had asked him a few more questions now!

DENZIL "PADDY" HALE b 9.4.1928 Clevedon d 15.7.2004 Weston-super-Mare 6’ 1”; 13 st CH Rovers Début: 28.11.53 v Leicester City Career: Yatton United; Clevedon Town; 16.4.51 Bristol Rovers (professional, 19.2.52) [120,12]; 29.7.59 Bath City.
Local inside-forward Paddy Hale made his début for Rovers reserves against Crystal Palace reserves in April 1951, and had to be content to watch as Rovers secured the Third Division (South) title in 1952-53. Thereafter, a début goal, the second in a 3-0 victory, was the first of twelve in a few months as this exciting forward made a mark on Rovers’ progress in Division Two. Tall and dominant, he was successfully converted into a dependable centre-half, to replace the veteran Ray Warren, and never scored in the League again. During the 1955-56 campaign, Rovers defeated Manchester United 4-0 in the FA Cup and, after losing the final two games of the season, missed promotion to the top flight by just two points. Hale’s only subsequent goal was against Burnley in the FA Cup in January 1958, as Rovers stunned their top-flight opponents by drawing at Eastville and securing a famous 3-2 replay victory at Turf Moor. Living in Clevedon later in life and married to Maureen Pullen, Paddy Hale died in Weston Hospital and was cremated eight days later at Canford Crematorium
