Formed a great partnership with Lambert and pretty sure he excelled in our 5-1 win at Walsall, but became hated by the Mem faithful, like Lines, because he wasn't a Sinclair type battler/tackler. Although given he started off at Palac and then played in our decent Div 1 side he does appear to have underachieved left he left us, although apart from Lambert that does seem the norm!

He started off at Lincoln and scored against us in the playoff semi final at the Mem. By any definition he has done better since he left us than we have!

Yes I believe he was captain of a Notts County team that won promotion and was also in a decent Fleetwood side as well. On anyone's terms Jeff Hughes has had a excellent lower league career.

I guess it's strange that loads of players when they leave us become a target of hate. I can't think of many who are given a really good welcome when they come back. Steve Elliot, Rickie, Andy Tilson are obvious people who have got good receptions but I can't think of many others. Can you think if others who've had good receptions? With Jeff Hughes he signed for us because we offered more money!! Surprise surprise of course he did and 90% of us would have done the same. As fans we always support the team and the players and when they come back we should at least be respectful. After all I know what will happen if some of our village idiots are really abusive. I remember when Cureton over celebrated in front of the fans for Reading people went mental. Now I don't know if he had got an earful before that....I suspect he did but it soured relations for nearly 10 years which was a shame because he did really well for us and I remember some great moments and goals. Yet it was spoiled which I think was unnecessary. Now he is older and more mature I doubt if he would have reacted in the same way. In the end if players do their best for us when they are with us that is all I ask for. I don't demand they sell their soul for us, most of them aren't fans like us, they are professionals trying (I hope) to win us games. If they do well, defend or score goals and get the chance to "better" themselves then good luck to them. In the 90s we had a good reputation for helping attackers do well and move up the leagues and this helped us attract new players. That is how it should be. In the next two home games I hope we give great receptions to Barry Hayles and Angelo Balanta because they deserve it big time. UTG!!

What makes me laugh is when some of our idiot fans are verbally abusing a player throughout the game and they happen to score and then give it back to the fans and those same fans then take umbrage as if players shouldn't act in that way

The trouble is most of us can see it happening and we know it is just a question of when....and then this so called just perpetuates itself for the next God knows how many years. Why they don't just ignore it and it's forgotten by Wednesday. Heyho. UTG!!

Although given he started off at Palac and then played in our decent Div 1 side he does appear to have underachieved left he left us, although apart from Lambert that does seem the norm! Exactly what I meant. I expected him to play higher up the leagues but best leave this to the presumptive posters.

He got found out a bit at Palace so it wasn't a natural assumption that anyone would expect him to make it at a higher level than League One. Players I'd put in the category of "literally blown it" would be Simon Bryant (and that's possibly a bit harsh given his knee problem), Seanan Clucas or Oliver Norburn, not Jeffrey.

Not really sure Clucas or Norborn showed anything in the quarters to justify playing higher, unless your reference to blown it his implying something else!
