Probably the best game to watch this season and both teams deserve praise for providing a good advert for League 2 football. IMO this was the best Plymouth side we have played for years and whilst I would have been happy with a point at the beginning I was very happy with a point at the end even though we could have come away with all three. It was refreshing to see DC put out a team to press Plymouth and stop them playing football at the back and actually look to attack ourselves. Both teams would have felt harshly treated if they had lost the game.
This season could go either way based on the last two games. Yesterday we looked a top 7 side, last week a bottom 7!!
Nichols 7.5 Dealt with everything well. Looks a very confident keeper and one worldly save in the second half and unlucky with the goal. Made the right decision with every cross and punched well.Lets hope we can sign him permanently.
Clarke 7.5 Back to his best and came out on top of most of his battles.
Lockyer 8 MOM The pick of the defence for me if you take out the one occasion in the first half where he was bringing the ball out but was dispossessed due to taking too long. Hard in the tackle, strong in the air and reads the game well.
Parkes 6.5 Better than last week but could be the one who comes under pressure from McCrystals return to the squad as for me if there is a weak link in the defence then he has been the one but our defensive record would suggest that there are other areas where we need to improve and McCrystal may have to bide his time.
Brown 7.5 A typical Brown performance and a very good one ,for me it was between him and Lockyer for MOM and Tom just sneaked it. Strong defensive performance and as always showed an amazing energy in the heat to get forward which was commendable as Plymouth were the quickest breaking side we have played.
Bodin 7 Certainly deserves another chance as definitely possesses good skills which others don't have though for me he should be played up front. On yesterdays performance deserves a run in the side to try to cement a place rather than just be rated on one performance.
Lines 7 Thought at times he was awesome with his range of passing and his ability to bring the ball out and hold on to it. At other times he was just ordinary.
Sinclair 7.5 Good all action display doing what he does best- closing down opponents and breaking up play and then giving the ball short but accurate.
Gosling 5 Unfortunately goes missing far too much in the game though did in the first half put over a couple of great crosses and looks comfortable on the ball if only he knew it!! For me he lacks self confidence which unless he overcomes that will see him mainly on the bench and probably dropping out of the League which will be a great shame as IMO he is a good footballer who could be a real asset.
Taylor 5 Think some have been a bit harsh on him for yesterdays performance. not at his best but did cause Argyle problems with his clever runs but lacks the killer touch. We definitely worked hard yesterday from the front to the back and didn't allow the Plymouth defence the time we have allowed others this season.
Easter 7 Silky skills and IMO class in everything that he did. Worked hard to close opponents down and always uses the ball well. Amazes me how people throw this "fitness" issue because the heat yesterday must have been pretty hard for the players and Easter covered a lot of ground and I have been surprised by his actual ability as I always thought of him as a goalscorer with little else but personally I would play him just behind a front two .
Montano 6.5 One run when he came on showed that he does have something to offer and maybe is just lacking from lack of game time and the Match fitness which can only be gained by playing. I would start him next week ahead of Gosling.
Lucas 6.5. Can we save money we haven't got because he could be the answer. Great headed flick on to Ellis for the penalty and looked like he is ready for battle but is young so needs to be eased in with a few cameo appearances but looks like he could lead the attack.
Harrison 7.5 Unnecessary booking but led Plymouth a merry dance when he came on and could and probably should have gone away with the match ball as his low shot wide should have at least been on target and should probably have found the net and the header whilst bringing a miraculous save from their keeper should have (in Colin Howlett's words) have given him "no chance at all".
Crowd 7
Great atmosphere and again turned out in numbers. incidents could easily have been avoided by more common sense by both parties.
Ref 7
Some awful decisions but overall a good performance and very good to see the extra minutes represent the lost time rather than a customary 4 or 5 minutes.
Plymouth 8 Very impressed with the speed of their breaking out from defence to attack. Only a good performance from us would have got anything from this game and it was very encouraging that we matched them and a a lot of the time bettered them with possession. A 1-0 defeat would have been harsh on us but I think a 2-1 win which it could easily have been at the end would have been harsh on them.
A good game to watch and a good point.
DC 9 Refreshing to see us pushing extra men forward without looking like conceding against good and speedy opponents.
So we move on to next week and a home game against an experienced, costly Portsmouth side but there is no need to fear them DC, Let them worry about us and if we pressurise them from the front like we did to Plymouth then we can beat them which is important because if we win our home games then drawing at Plymouth is an excellent result.
Personally I would start with Harrison and Bodin up top with Easter sitting in behind them with a midfield of Montano, Lines,Sinclair and Brown and the back three of Clarke,Lockyer and Parkes. If we play like we did yesterday then this formation is easily playable. WE CAN attack teams. UTG
