I remember getting to the Birkbeck to find the game had been called off. So we went and watched Tottenham instead.

Fa Cup about 15-20 years ago? We had a coach up from The Pied Horse, and there were loads of Rovers up there. We were sat in the old stand along the side of the pitch, banging the wooden seats and singing 'Snooker loopy'. You had to be there really

Only been once; can't recall much. All pretty unspectacular, apart from one thing, I'm afraid! - Stayed with friends in London. Took a mate who had no interest in football. His girls are now star players (and the only girls) in their age group teams. - Bumped into someone I hadn't seen in years on the tube. He'd moved to London and I had no idea he was a Rovers fan. - The stand alongside the pitch wasn't the best, in terms of comfort and view. - The only thing I remember from the game, and this is the spectacular part, was a Kevin Gall 35-yard screamer, into the top-corner, which was a late consolation. Think we were 3-0 down at the time.

orient away 1979- the coach i was on , out of the 50- 45 got arrested in central london after the game-most bailed - a crazy day - i could name names but not a good idea obviously. We lost 2-1. Is that why you're in Bangkok now No mate - can hardly call st. andrews 'bangkok' - i was 15 as were my mates on that coach, but the hard core were and were very nawty in central london after the game, my moniker is what it is as i lived in thailand for many years after...though that explanation hardly required. Suffice to say, living in Tokyo and Thailand for 20 odd years - I am back and happy to see we are still in business (just!)..

Lots of memories of Orient away. First visit there was August 1993 as a teenager. My Dad drove up and I remember being a bit down that we were going to somewhere like Leyton Orient following our relegation, when the previous season we'd gone to places like Wolves, Birmingham, West Ham and Leicester. I've now lowered my expectations, on the advice of Paul Buckle, and am now pleased that we're playing Orient instead of Braintree. That was the day Cardiff fans caused chaos at Fulham and it seemed as if every vehicle on the gridlocked M4 was full of mad Welshmen. This was around the time they played Standard Liege in the cup winners cup and took a load of nutters over there too. Hundreds of aggressive Welshmen didn't help my mood as Rovers lost that day. My next trip to Orient was better - December 2004 in the FA Cup, the first of 4 trips to Brisbane Road that season. 2000 Rovers fans were noisy and we won 2-0. There were smoke bombs on the away terrace as the Rovers fans in the terraces and seats sang 'Johnny Wards Barmy Army' at each other. The Coach and Horses pub was rammed and it seemed as if Rovers took over everywhere that day. A few weeks later, 1st January 1995, we were off to Orient again in the league. This was a few days after getting as far as Taunton, en route to Plymouth, when we'd found out that game was off. We'd heard on the radio that Fred West had hung himself and my friend (I think jokingly) asked if there was going to be a minute's silence. We got in the ground and could see that one side of the pitch was still frozen. They announced it was postponed a few minutes before kick off. Got a refund on an adult ticket, which wasn't bad as I'd got in as a kid, but it still didn't make up for the wasted journey. I went to Bradford a few weeks later and that was called off too. 10th January 1995 (had to look that one up), it was another trip to Orient, this time in the Auto Windscreens Shield. We got to Heston services and phoned Orient to double check the game was still on. It was an we won on penalties, just reward for the Rovers fans who'd travelled to that part of London 3 times in 5 weeks. April 1995, another night game, won 2-1 on our way to the play offs. By this time I could get to their ground blindfolded. Can't remember much about this one but I was there. September 2001 - this one was a trip on the train with my mates and an overnight stay in London. Rovers were losing so we headed for Browns in Shoreditch on the advice of another Rovers fan. That place was certainly an eye opener and I enjoyed myself in there more than the game. The trip is more remembered for a top quality put crawl in the West End and having to tell a naive young lad we'd met that he had probably seen the last of his money after he gave it to a girl in Soho who'd promised him all sorts, and that she'd "be right back". He'd given her £200 and was just standing there waiting for her. March 2003 - by now, any London game was an excuse for an overnight stay in the capital, this time we stayed over on the Friday night. This was just after a million people had marched in London against the Iraq War. Our group joined up with other Rovers fans and there were about 30 of us drinking in a backstreet central London pub and it was a good laugh. There were also Coventry and Norwich fans there supporting Rovers. Rovers won 2-1. One Rovers fan had made a sign saying 'Bomb Iraq' which caused a ruckus with the local Muslims at the taxi rank near the ground. Got to Paddington, but we'd spent too long in the pub and missed our train. We ended up in the Pride of Paddington when The Cars' song "Drive" came on, so about a dozen of us were singing "who's gonna drive us home"? 11th September 2004 - landed at Stansted after watching England in Poland and headed to London. Tried my Polish chat up lines on the Polish barmaid in a pub in Liverpool Street, with little success. Rumours of Muslim extremists 'celebrating' the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks a few tube stops away in Finsbury Park. Wayne Carlisle got a bit of stick from Rovers fans and gave a bit back as Orient beat Rovers 4-2. A few of us stayed in a dosshouse in Victoria and my mate pulled the barmaid in a nearby pub. She and her friends asked if we wanted to join them for a drink once she'd finished her shift. The only place open nearby was a gay nightclub called The Stag. Interesting place, but I don't think I'll be going back. November 2007 in the cup - I think Rovers, City, Cardiff and Swansea were all in London or the south east this day. Expected trouble, but it was uneventful. My mate took his 3 year old lad to his first Rovers game that day. May 2008, last game of the season. Rovers lost. My Norwich supporting mate remarked how aggressive the Rovers fans were. August 2015 - sat at home disappointed watching the scores come in.

"devonwhite" - if you didn't do so before for the first book, it sounds like you should submit some of your travel experiences to Martin Bull for "Away The Gas", ready for when Volume II is produced.
