This is the only way to describe yesrterday's match which was probably the most one sided 1-0 win I have ever watched from beginning till end however when Yeovil had a corner not long before we scored I thought this was going to end up in our net and be the most undeserved win! In many ways had that have happened it was similar to the game that has been often described as the "Conrad Logan game" but the other way around; that day Yeovil were all over us but couldn't score and we scored with pretty well our only shot. This would certainly have been a revenge for an awful Yeovil team.
Anyway, enough of what could have happened thankfully football won yesterday and Ellis's thunderbolt gave us the right result to a game that if it was a Boxing match would have been stopped.
Chapman 7 This man looks the part and whilst not having a lot to do made one tremendous save low down for a big man and was able to display a mixture of distributions in both kicks and throw outs that were accurate and executed quickly. For the first time in a long time I actually felt confident on the rare occasions Yeovil managed a corner.
Leadbitter 9 MOM Played the wing back role superbly and both defended and attacked with equal ease. Never gave Yeovil a moment's rest and IMO is the next Michael Smith but hopefully we can move forward with him rather than lose him to a higher club.
James Clarke 9 Didn't put a foot or head wrong and could easily have also been Man of the Match and probably in some peoples eyes would have been. Looks an excellent signing.Good in the air and on the ground with the ability to bring the ball out similar to Parksy but a lot more assured and appears to have much better passing ability. DC has done it again I reckon and picked up a gem.
Lockyer 8 Another good performance from young Tom who is a much better central defender than either a midfielder or a full back but IMO his playing in those other roles has done him no harm whatsoever as he is a model professional and plays in such a composed style for a young man.
Parkes 7 Not at his best yet but that didn't really matter yesterday as did enough to ease through the game without too many nasty moments. Should have scored with a header but too often misplaces them when in good positions.
Brown 6 For me Brown looks a bit lost in the wingback role and add to that his lack of game play in pre season he is taking a while to produce his best. It is strange that for one who thrives on getting forward he does not excel in this role but maybe he is an attacking full back in the true sense and better when running from the back rather than starting in a more advanced position. i am sure on many occasions we will go back to 4-4-2 with wingers and Browner will be back to his best.
Ollie Clarke 8 For me this was Clarkes best all round game in a Rovers shirt. Chasing, harrassing ,shooting, passing in fact a bit of everything in there and gave Sinclair the chance to do what he does best as well. Well done Ollie, never been my favourite player but perhaps yet he can produce this sort of performance regularly and I will happily eat my words. Was very unlucky not to score with a characteristic shot which brought an equally fine save.
Sinclair 9 Covered every inch of the ground and another; for me who could have been Man of the Match. Ran, harrased, niggled and passed accurately to feet in an inspiring performance. I was unsure if he could make the step up in standard but on this performance he certainly looks like he will do that and more. His overall presence , attitude to the game both on and off the pitch make him something very special and the Man could in seasons to come become a legend.
Lines 7 I really thought that Lines would stand out in this division similar to the end of last season but to date(and it's very early in the season) he has not. Played well but was outshone by the other two midfielders and his delivery from set pieces has been disappointing thus far. I am sure there is a lot better to come from Chris but he did help in our total dominance of the midfield area.
Harrison 8.5 Another strong game climaxed by a stunning strike for the winning goal.Ellis is well capable of becoming a top striker and was unlucky not to end up with one or two more bringing a stunning save from the keeper and missing what was probably the easiest chance of the three when he hit the ball over the bar in the first half. His general running and power on the ground and in the air is starting to blossom and he may well become the first name on DCs teamsheet and who knows possibly that exclusive 20 goal a season striker we crave for.
Taylor 6 After Tuesday nights game I was really hoping that Matty was back to his best and that we would see a lot more of the breathtaking swopping of passes with Ellis but it was not to be and he was probably the biggest disappointment for me yesterday. He brought a great save low down from the keeper but from the away end it was difficult to see if this should have been a goal. Really needs a first goal of the season to get him going as he has, throughout his career scored his goals in batches rather than regularly.
Montano 6 Showed some clever touches in a short appearance and brought Brown into the game more. At the moment (like Balanta last season) I feel there is a good player in there but just hope it comes out sooner rather than later.
Monakana 6.5 Like Montano but shows a bit more pace and a more direct winger.Hope we do get a chance to see more of him and that he doesn't just disappear after a month. I am not one for these month loan deals and think they should be a minimum of 3 months especially as generally they do not get put straight in by DC.
Easter 7 His arrival added class to the front line. Cleverly drops off the main striker and holds the ball well and brings others into play. Like Taylor i think he needs a goal to go with the skill and class he shows. Personally I would go back to Harrison/Easter on Tuesday.
DC 8 Team selection pretty well spot on and the substitutions made were refreshing. So often when we have played against 10 men we have faded in a game and lacked ideas. The bringing on of the two wingers meant that we were able to make more of the extra man. Brave decision to leave Mildy out although I found his comments that "Mildy can stay and fight for his place BUT I have told him he won't get many first team games" whilst being Honest (which DC is) this to me is a sign of an inexperienced Manager still learning how to deal with certain Man Management skills and saying far more than was necessary to the outside world. There are some things that stay behind closed doors and dealing with somebody like Mildy who has been a credit to the club is something that I think should have stayed between DC and the player.
Referee 8 Very good .
Yeovil 4 Krysiak was a 9 but the rest of the team were totally outclassed in all departments and 4 or 5 nil would have been a fairer result and had the referee not blown his whistle when he did i am sure we were clean through and going to make it 2-0.
So we move on to Tuesday which will be a much more difficult game and one I would seriously think about going back to 4-4-2 but i am sure DC will have ideas in his head for dealing with a completely different game. That is what the man excels at and hopefully we can maintain the record we set yesterday for away games.
